Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Enjoyed their shock and despair when when we went on the rampage in the 3rd.

Read quite a few pages after 26 to watch it unfold. They were fairly good but when the result was so obvious one started to attack Channel 7 especially BT. So it's just not us that cannot stand him. It was funny.

Died in the wool dogs supporting friend was the first to text with congrats. Genuine and generous. I reckon more than any club’s supporters they respect what we’re feeling. They’re excellent losers (I worry even that sounds bad!).

I have no ill feelings towards Dogs fans and I generally like most of their players (few exceptions). I thought Bont was very gracious in defeat and I think their supporters are generally understanding of the importance of breaking a long drought.
I am sure we will have a long rivalry for many seasons to come.

If we had beaten Geelong I would be throwing it in their face like I did in the prelim because they’re a despicable bunch of arrogant tools and their players are all insufferable.
But happy to stay humble in victory.

I read through that game day thread on the WOOF web site and just reading their comments on "that 10 minutes" gave me chills all over again.

From hope, confidence, belief, to shell shock and trauma.

On Sunday I read through some neutral clubs' game day threads and their post match comments. They weren't shell shocked but they were awed, amazed, impressed, and frightened by what they saw.

Shock and awe.

Each GF has its story. Some that come to mind ... 1970: handball handball handball. 2005: whosit's game saving mark in the last minute. 2010: but for one crazy bounce of the ball ...

I think the "story" of 2021's GF, when people talk about it at the pub or whatever, will be ... oh yeah, that was the one where the Demons exploded and blew the Dogs off the park in 10 minutes of devastating football. "That 10 minutes."

How fitting. We played like Demons and put the Dogs through hell. Supporters of all clubs will remember this game, and "those 10 minutes", always.

I keep thinking what life would be like if the reverse had happened. Poor bastards. A real sniff of hope snuffed out in an instant. Shell-shocked is the only term. The 2016 flag obviously makes it bearable. But they ran into a juggernaut the same way we did in 2000 and 1988. I hope our fans are gracious enough not to hang [censored] on them. And in general, yes, they have a decent supporter-group from my experience.

With the lock down and not being able to celebrate with friends and family, I've found myself trawling the individual (non participating) club boards that have grand final threads - it is quite satisfying seeing them go from "Dees are shot, give Bont the medal" to "Holy [censored] this is the most insane football I've ever seen - and in a grand final!"

This was also enjoyable:

While I’m deliriously happy, a part of me feels a bit sad for the Doggies. I lived out that way before moving back to Japan, and have very fond memories of it.

If it was Hawthorn (and especially Jeffrey K), I wouldn’t give a crap. Doggies supporters are generally good sorts and as salt of the earth as you can get. I’m not going to dance on their grave.

Any fuzzy feelings for the dogs from me went out the window in the 4th quarter of the Round 19 game when they were all getting stuck into Harmes and the egos were flying all over the place. Great to put them back in their place.

Where are you living in Japan? I've been there a dozen times over the last 15 years including living in Hokkaido for a few snow seasons. If there is anywhere I would live outside of Australia it would be in Japan. Such an awesome place.

I separate the players from the supporters.

Hence why I used Hawthorn as my example. Most of their supporters (or at least the ones I've met) have all the staying power of a wet tissue caught on a tree branch in a typhoon, are as conceited as Lady Godiva walking into the members area at Ascot saying they literally have nothing to wear and possess all the charm of a rotting teddy bear at a gravesite. Many of their players have been some of the dirtiest pr!cks in the AFL as well (Dermie, Leigh Matthews, Dipper, Campbell Brown and Hodge).

If we had given them a right royal pantsing, I would have little sympathy.

I live in Aichi prefecture in Central Japan. It's basically halfway between Tokyo and Osaka; meaning most people really view it as a stop over between the two. Unless you have an interest in the auto industry, there's not much to see here.

Taken from the BF best 30 minutes of football thread. For clarity the guy who wrote this is a Carlton supporter

“For mine, that's the best 30 minutes of Football by a long way.

Not only was it in a Grand Final, but it was Centre Clearance after Centre Clerance - against the #1 Centre Clearance side in the competition. There was nothing Bont, McRae, Libba and Martin could do as Petracca, Oliver, Viney and Gawn ran riot.

If you are making Bont look second rate, then you are playing amazing football. If you are making Libba look clumsy, then you are playing amazing football. If you are totally nullifying McRae's spread from the contest, then you are playing amazing football.

To do what they did, time and time again - is nothing short of remarkable”

Of all the teams to beat the Bulldogs are probably the ones I have no ill feelings towards.

Except Lachie Hunter, can’t stand him.

Couldn't help but chuckle at this comment not to mention the unintended pun

"Sorry but this is the worst grand final performance over ever seen. This could put some long term scars. We’ll see next year. We’ve done well to get here. I’m proud of our efforts up until tonight. But we’ve clearly got a lot of mental demons to work out. We’re too weak and inconsistent."

Poster had obviously never watched the 1988 and 2000 GF's 😢

There is already a thread which started pre game and continued on post game. However the general vibe is that the majority of the doggies supporters were quite measured and it was in poor taste to gloat over them.

It's all very well to have these threads when they have a chance of redemption or if we have a chance of failing at some point.

It feels different when we are the clear winners.

It’s interesting isn’t it that these threads generate heat when there’s sniping and dirty play.

Our team played great honest football - I can’t think of any action that was below the belt and unless pressed  would say the same for our opponents

Having been at 2000 and seen a larynx-crusher delivered to  - not sure -

Brad Greene (?) it is reassuring to think that football can be played and won without resorting to grubby tactics

Well played to both sides

P.S.

we have worn out the tape watching the replay  so watched the MFC website

Road to Hell and back series today

totally fascinating authentic footage of a footy club being rebuilt from the ground up

the series is only half finished - the best is yet to come  - but this week’s result absolutely was NOT a random result

Great people building a great club

This is something that has been dancing around in my mind thinking of ways the dogs could have stopped the run at the end of the 3rd. I think there is still room for a GF underdog (or overdog) to go the biff and pinch a flag from it.

There are limited opportunities for the umpires to do anything about it, and I think we'll see a sin bin come in at some stage after a team does this.

Got well wishes from almost every dogs supporter I know post game.

They are of the same ilk as we are from a supporter perspective and I respect that.

Yes, I don't mind the Bulldogs players and supporters. The game was played in excellent spirit between two very talented football teams. A great advertisement for our Australian game. Unlike certain clubs they didn't go the biff when all was lost in the last quarter. I respect that and their football club and excellent coach.( ex Demon ,of course). Optus oval is a fantastic venue to watch a footy match too. Far superior viewing the old Subiaco ground.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
