Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Medals for All?

I am sure the club will do something for the players that got the team there if we win next weekend. I believe Collingwood got watches made.

Although there is an argument that if the Sub doesnt get subbed in should they get a medal over someone like a Hunt that played in the majority of our winning games.

Watches are a great idea.

I'm not against all players who played a game getting a medal but feel the AFL view it as too special and won't do it.

Instead they should make a different colour/shape medal for players not involved/injured.

So there is some distinction, the ones on GF still remain sacrosanct but other players get some form of recognition.

I'm very much against it. What makes it special is its scarcity.

If you wanna give everyone at the club a ring or a watch for being involved in the season, sure go for it.

But let's say something is created or they decide whole squad gets a premiership medallion, would the AFL then go and retrospectively hand out medals?
The amount of medals would be farcical.

Do you think that Max Gawn would think his medal would be worth less if Nathan Jones also got one?

Pointless question Nash.

It cheapens the value of the medals that are given to people who didn't play.

Give them something else if they are not satisfied with watching their mates win a flag.

Or maybe a Bic biro with the player’s name done on one of those Dymo labeling devices, stuck on the side?

i think it should be more than the 22 but i higher threshold like 15 games or 80% of games so that it rewards players who genuinely make an impact but your oskar bakers or chandlers who played once or twice and spend 12 games as an unused sub are excluded as they ultimately didn't contribute to the results

Those who missed out, have extra incentive to do better next year…

And what about those like Jones and Jetta who don't have another year?

They have been a big part of this club and our rebuild for a long long time. Jetta has had a great mentoring role for Kossi, and took him in during Covid. Jonesy, well it goes without saying he is a massive part of this group and their success.

I see no harm in awarding a medal to those who have been part of the 22/23 during the season.

I think in the SPFL anyone that plays 10 games or more receives a league winners medal. Assuming they played them all with Rangers of course 😄

Introducing a similar rule in the AFL would stop a lot of angst about who does / doesn't make the final 22 on GF day.

I don’t think a single player who plays on the day would begrudge the likes of Hunty also getting a medal. In other words, what the 22 would like to have happen should be taken into account.

I think a squad medal for those who have played a game through the year (sub but no game time shouldn’t count), and then a separate match day medal for all. Perhaps a ring for support staff.

But I do think there should be recognition for all involved and not just for those there on Grand Final day.

Being a bit of a traditionalist I believe that the Premiership medal only goes to those that were in the field of battle. However I strongly believe that our club should invest in Premiership rings that would go to every player that played and helped get the club to the promised land. Particularly for drought breaking 13th that would be something to cherish.

I fondly remember the Premiership Penant that I received (3 Times) 72-74, the 22 players in the Granny are shown at the top and then the players that filled in during the year covering injuries / illness etc, are displayed below. We aren’t all made for Glory.,!!!!!!!

The 22 can't win a premiership without the others.

As much as our football culture would have you believe it's the 22 on the day, it isn't.

You don't get there without winning enough games to qualify.

Take away the FD and the rest of the squad and see if you can win a flag.

It's a team win, all the team should be rewarded.

It's time this stupid on the day culture was relegated to the past.

A premiership is won because of a good season not just a good day.

Fair enough, I see where you’re coming from. I guess the difference for me is that I see “the flag” as the sum total of the whole season, not just the result of the final game. That is, the 50 point win in round 5 that Mitch Brown played his only game in was just as much a factor in the total as the win in the Granny.

I see the reward for playing in a successful Grand Final as having the memory of playing in a successful Grand Final. That’s something the players who didn’t play will never have, no matter who receives what medal.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
