Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thanks Jonesy - Retirement

Like so many that have come before him, he deserves so much better in terms of being able to play in a premiership/grand final/or even just finals. Sadly he got his chance early and he had to wait years before he got his chance again. I don't think there could be a single bad word said about the guy, he's been a warrior, a soldier, and a true clubman. Now he's the father of two beautiful twins to go with the two he already has.

Congrats on a great career, thanks for the memories, and thank you for everything you have done.

I'd made a video in tribute to his 300th purely for my own enjoyment earlier in the year, it's a bit corny but I reckon it'll tug some heartstrings. So here it is:

well done, pates.......an awesome job

He’s a total champ who at the most difficult moment possible has put the team’s chances of success above his own. Of course it’s heartbreaking, but it’s the correct call and is once more an example of how selfless he is. I [censored] love the bloke and wish him and his family nothing but the best. A true legend of MFC.

I see it differently. Whilst the 22 (23?) on the day peak the summit, everyone whose played in the firsts during the year have been part of laying the groundwork.

I get that.

But a Grand Final is fought over 2 hours by 2 teams. Those who are on the ground, Actually get the job done.
They deserve elevation over the rest of the team

So who gets #2 now Jones is gone?
Petty ?

I've often felt over the years that Nathan Jones was a supporter that actually played such was his want to compete for the jumper.  He gave us behind the fence something to barrack for week in week out and for that I'm so greatful.

I think it's worth considering that the number be rested for a few years in honour of Jonsey. Or perhaps forever and it becomes the number of the supporter and inspires us on again.

Nah ......

Wouldn't mind if Bowey took it TBH.

Thanks for everything Jones. You were there for all the hard times and never lowered your head. You were there for both 2008-2009 wooden spoons but never abandoned us like so many (who shall remain nameless) players did.

The courtesy you showed my niece/nephews when they met you was really gracious and  left a lasting impact on them. You were their favourite player and they will never forget you.

Thank you for everything. Nothing but love and respect for you.

Jonesy first game was at the 'G v Doggies, I was lucky enough to be there and gave him a real decent rev up when he ran on from the bench. That seems a lifetime ago. He had a good day that day, some really nice touches. My old man leaned into me and said he is a good kid. Bit of a underestimation with hindsight, but if you knew my old man it was big statement. We won that day, hopefully a good omen (Yze also had a day out that day with 5)

In the time since we have both lost out hair and he had got a lot more ink

I reckon he has a great career post game, He has a really smart performer who has got the most out of his body. Looking forward to his next chapter.

He also joined a very small exclusive 300 demon club. He and David can have a few beers and wait to the next generation (and there is a few in this team) try and join.

I feel like Sparrow would be a good call to give the number 2, him or Rivers perhaps but I think the way Sparrow plays is in a similar no nonsense style to Jones.

Thanks for all you've done Jonesy. The Club can finally move on without the noise  and the challenges you had to go through.

You will always be a legend, enjoy retirement :)

Well done Nathan Jones. You were a genuine FOOTBALLER.

No 2 is a label of respect in MFC with Robbie Flower & Nathan. This purely about loyalty (and class) because bothe these blokes did the hard yards . Maybe the Club could honour the Number.

Nathan struggled when he firt became Captain, but you could see that it was another challenge he accepted anddeveloped to being the heart & soul of the Club.

Thank you.

+1.

A determined footballer, a courageous leader and a great servant of our club but, above all, a GENUINE DEMON.

No honour is too great. Thanks Nathan.

As we said in 1964, c'arn the demons.

Nathan Jones you are a class act.

Thank you  for your service.

You had a long and not necessarily great time on the field but you just took on more and more responsibility in order to get us to where we are.

May they deliver you the grail and beg of you to join them in celebration.

Remember going into the Subiaco Social Club after losing the 06 Semi Final to Freo, Danners, Brad Miller and Jones came in. I bought all 3 a beer and had a chat. Chunk was just a kid in his first year.

Back then he had hair and played with his socks up. Over the next 12 years he was an inspiration and a warrior who gave everything he had to us. It was great to see him play finals again in 2018 and kick the sealer against Geelong. Unfortunately for Chunk Father Time has caught up with him when we are close to realising a dream.

His performance in the #2 has been befitting of its status. I hope it is passed down to a player who has earns the right to wear it.

Thank you Jonesy for everything you gave and did for the club. You may not be on the ground next Saturday but you have played a big role in getting us there.

Best wishes to you Geri and the family in life after footy

If we do win the flag I fear that he will resent it.

I don't think that he will resent it but l do think that not being selected for the GF would have cut his m to the quick.

He possibly realising Sed at PF that his time was over, handing over to the new generation probably easier to handle in isolation.

Someone said he is one of us and this isolation really emphasises that.

The time for celebration will happen, and it will be with us. It will be better than being on the fringes in Perth.

Although Max and the team will give genuine acknowledgement the GF will be their moment, I hope they get that.

When we all get together we will acknowledge a legend of the club, he may not have all the trappings of success but his record like Robbins will endure longer than many others. In the meantime every tribute on Demonland  is well deserved and like this can barely do justice to him.I hope he enjoys the family and as they grow they are acknowledged by the club and its supporters as a significant part of the history of this club.

I must admit I got emotional while reading his statement today.

I’ll never forget his performances during arguably the darkest days the club has seen. In footy terms they were nothing short of heroic.

The bloke will always be a favourite son.

Thanks for everything, Jonesy.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
