Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

BULLDOGS SUPPORTERS - Who are they?

The ones I know are all good people.  The funniest is my nephews Vietnamese partner; been out here 5 years, works in Footiscray, follows the Dogs, and I quote 'The Bont, nah he no good'.

I used to like going to the Dogs games years back, as not being tall, I could easily see over the heads of the crowd.

I made the mistake of watching offsiders on the ABC on Sunday morning.

Kellie Underwood started by calling Geelong the oldest club in the competition (maybe she was talking about the players?)

And then trotted out the grand final match up between the working class Bulldogs and the Melbourne inner city elite.

this fifty year old stereotyping drives me nuts.

I saw that too.

Talk about lazy journalism from Kelly with no feeling for the moment.

I'm (ex) working class and I hate the Doggies when we play them.

I’ve got quite a few bulldogs friends, all pretty good supporters in that I don’t feel like they gloat a lot. They got a little lippy after their premiership win but never to the arrogance of the cats or hawks.

I found them to be the same, in general. In the past, in their quieter years, that is, they were very humble supporters not prepared to ruffle feathers or expect/demand the concessions that should have been due to them in the conduct of the former VFL. This most probably stemmed from the rather sad, lousey - no, damn right atrocious - performances that the Footiskry supporters experienced for years, no - an eternity - except for the efforts of Mr Ted Whitten.

Far more integrity overall than the Filth.

Disease riddled filth dragging the whole state into lockdown.

I only know one Bulldogs supporter to be fair, guy from an old workplace. Friendly enough, but an absolute train wreck of a person. Amazed he’s still employed, sent home from work for being drunk at one stage a few years ago. This is an office job too, so legit basket case type stuff. Old work friend sent me a screenshot of a recent post the bloke made on Facebook about covid being a government hoax to take control of us and inject us with tracking beacons etc. He sums up the Bulldogs for me. My most hated team in the league by some way. Disgusting.

my girlfriend is a doggies fan (as her mum is from the western suburbs), but she's more dees these days seeing as though i watch and listen to as much dees stuff as i can. if i had a second team, it'd be the dogs. mind you, after being flogged by them a few times, quite content in flogging them in the GF if we get a chance. due to their lack of success, i feel as though their fanbase has more in common with us than most realise.

I grew up in Sunshine/Albion: couldn't wait to get the ....out of there. Teddy Whitten once delivered a caged budgie to my house because I won some dumb competition - the winner had to foretell the exact time the 8.30AM from Sydney would land at Essendon. I phoned the airport and asked what time the 8.30 would land, I was told, 8.30 so that's what I wrote. Lucky I wasn't home when Whitten delivered he thought he was Mister Football. I would have argued with him, I would have told him who Mister Football was.

The budgie caused nothing but trouble. Budgies are like ducks and possums, all they do is poo.

Eventually, while cleaning out the bird cage in the back yard, I turned it upside down, the cage door lifted and the budgie flew to Budgie Paradise.

I spoke to two blokes on the weekend who are Bulldog supporters. I went to school with them. One of them was Bugs Dewire, a poet and songwriter for the Coodabeens.

I live in Box Hill now: my local chemist was brought up in Footscray, he's an Australian-born Vietnamese Doggie man. I know that when I get my prescription later in the week, he'll lace them with tranquillizers in case Melbourne win. He is a true gentleman.

And the dude who started Barrique Wine store in Healesville is a Doggie supporter. And, last but not least, I played footy in a Lighting Premiership there in 1960 when I was 10 years old and in Grade seven at Our Ladys. I didn't get a kick.

There’s about a dozen of them here at our workplace in Laverton Nth. Fairly balanced and realistic bunch but today that number has multiplied x3 all of a sudden. People that haven’t spoken to me once about footy in 6 years are covered in Dogs scarves, beanies, caps, you name it.

There were 4 Melbourne supporters here but 3 have left leaving me on my own and that’s the only reason why I wanted Port to win. Would have been a peaceful lead-up to the game with no Port support here.

Growing up in the late-60s, I remember that both Barassi and Whitten were called "Mr Football". I often wondered why they both were given the same nickname as it seemed odd to me then. Nevertheless, two genuine superstars of that or any era, so I can live with it. I'm just glad that with the demise of the formal honorific, we're not hearing today's equivalents being called "footy-bro".

We played the Dogs at the Western oval in the penultimate round of 1991. The Coode Island fire 5 days earlier had engulfed the whole area in a thick black toxic cloud. Whilst it had cleared by match day I wore a face mask as I walked past the home crowd to the Barkly St goals. It drew quite a few laughs from the locals.

Aside: face masks were rarely worn in them olden days.

I live out West and it's mostly doggies fans out here. My best mate's wife who I despise is a doggies fan has given me irrational hatred of them as well. Apart from that, most seem ok.

I live in Footscray and I've seen like two in the last year on the streets, but then again I don't leave my house much with that whole stay at home order covid thing.

I have three friends that are dogs fans around my age and they are ok. Only seen the one flag, got a little lippy but nothing untoward like richmond fans. they got put back in there place pretty quickly.

There are clearly two households a couple of streets from my house.  They were decked out with scarves and balloons on Saturday.

I believe it is a permissible breach of curfew laws to sneak around and pop the white balloons.

So much to unpack. But I’m most curious about the budgie. When you say he went to “budgie paradise” is that the same as when parents tell their children that their pet dog went to live on “a farm”???

My neighbour is a Footscray tragic. He told me he’s only cried twice in his life: 1954 gf and 2016 gf. That’s how much he loves the Doggies. I said, “what about on your wedding day?” He said, “I thought we were just talking about happy tears.” 😆

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
