Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Ranking your favourite goals of all time

Great topic. My two most memorable were from the same guy which have been mentioned

Jakovich (a) - the scissor

Jakovich (b) - crucial goal (think we were down 4 goals at half time) and then kissing his brother in front of the members. Made even better when a couple of years ago for a Dland interview he recounted the story and the drive home from the game with his mum and brother.

Non mfc goals

Ablett snrs goal - over his head between the point and goal post was in a state of origin game iirc. You just knew it was going in when he was trying it cause, you know, it was Ablett.

Jason Akermanis at the Gabba in the pouring rain, running towards the boundary, wrong side for a right footer.  And then doing it again 30 seconds later. Ridiculous.  (He had another set of 'twin' goals in his career where he burst from the centre and kicked 55 metres out on his right across his body.  Then on the next centre bounce he did the same thing but on his left. Unstoppable.)

Abletts jnr snap for the Suns at Kardina park. 45 metre from the wrong pocket and you can hear the crowd gasp in unison then gave him a standing ovation.

“Still Woewodin, still Woewodin” remains one of my favourites from 1998 against Port. What a great running goal, crowd went nuts.

Have always preferred that to Farmer's goal of the year winner.

I have a memory of a Jakovich goal where he had a mark or freekick – can’t remember which – on the boundary line. Chris Langford was his opponent and was standing the mark. Jakovich ran in to kick but instead of kicking, he just kept going, straight at Langford, who did not know what to do. He was so bemused; Jakovich ran straight around him, and kicked the goal. It was outrageous play.

Yep, remember that. Final round 1992, in the first minute Richmond end, northern wing.

We kicked 20.10.130.

And lost!

For pure skill, Yze from the city end pocket, checkside v Freo? Almost impossible.
Neitz ending McCabe.
The Wizard of Waverley place.
Neitz from about 65 on the members wing.
Jeff White v Bulldogs.
Jones v Geelong.
Every Jakovich goal.
Oliver on the boundary at Adelaide oval.
Watts v Collingwood.
Dom Sheed v Collingwood.
Every Max Gawn goal.

LOVE this one, Absolutely burnt into my memory that one.

I think this goal was important in terms of creating confidence in his goal kicking:
Big Maxy's chenana snap from the boundary against Gold Coast this year

  • 2 weeks later...

Oliver late in the 3rd running in an irresistible wave from the centre square to put us 24 points up at 3/4 time in the grand final.

It was the moment I dared to think the dream was coming true. I love Clayton. Some of the things he did for us this year are incredible, and he deserved that moment.

I'm going to have to watch all the aforementioned goals again to decide.  I would also make special mention of the Jack Watts goal v Collingwood. Being behind the goals at the punt road end the roar was so significant, at the time I got the sens like we are building something here.  We were for sure!!!!

Three goals in 50 seconds.   The third best time of my life.  After the birth of my 2 sons

It’s terrifying, the total game time according to the AFL website between Trac, Sparrow and Oliver was 31 seconds. Even if there was only one team on the park at the ball-up, you’d still struggle to kick 3 goals in 30 seconds.

Absolute madness at Optus Stadium.

1.  Allan Jackovich scissor kick goal vs North Melbourne as part of the 11.8 or so he kicked that day,

2.  TMac dying seconds in Perth, boot to ball in goalsquare while being tackled,

3.  Whoever it was that kicked the sealer vs the Filth at Victoria Park (Lovell maybe?). I have never seen a more toothless, dim-witted, foul-mouthed, lice-riddled throng of supporters, emboldened in their antisocial behaviour by their numbers and the familiarity of their dilapidated dump of a home ground than what I witnessed that day. The only time attending an AFL game where I genuinely feared for my safety at and after the game.

Edit: also happy to add Gawny's goal after the siren in round 23 this year. Won us the minor premiership, mentally shattered the cats (ref. Prelim Final), gave us our first after-the siren win in our VFL/AFL history (bear in mind Queen [censored]!ng Victoria was in the throne when the VFL started up), and slayed his own set-shot goal kicking demons.

I was at Vic Park that day with about 100 other Dees. Our last ever match there BTW.

Only kicked 2 goals in last Q, both in time on. Chopper and Sean Wight. Won by 9 points.

But if I had to take one goal to my grave - Viney’s toe poke to Luke Jackson and running handball to Clarrie at full pace.

I have a memory of Schwarta getting the ball just after the half time siren went, threw it onto his boot in disgust and it sailed through from 50m out.  Against the Blues i think.

Tom Sparrows goal, not only because he was 50m out and had 4 doggies coming at him, but the theatre of TMc pushing his opponent over the line, as if he was going for a TRY.

Gawn v Cats Rnd 23 after the siren has top spot for me, I think now we know how much more it meant because of the confidence it gave the team. We could well still have made the premiership anyway but the wave of emotion and momentum can’t be underestimated in going into finals.

Trac’s 3rd quarter dribbler has to make the list as well now though! As a team effort I love Clarry’s running goal as well.

Here's my list of all time favourite MFC goals.

1. Max Gawn vs Geelong Rd 23, 2021

2. Mitch Hannan vs Geelong EF 2018

3. Max Gawn (from 55m) vs Geelong PF 2021

4. Jeff White vs Bulldogs 2005

5. Adem Yze vs Adelaide SF 2002

6. David Schwarz vs Carlton QF 1994

7. Austin Wonaemirri vs Fremantle 2008

8. Cam Bruce vs Carlton QF 2000

9. David Neitz vs St.Kilda EF 2006

10. Russel Robertson vs Essendon 2005

First year watching Melbourne: 1994

A lot of these are ranked on context hence why goals like Farmer's in 1998 missed the cut.

Jeff Farmer’s Goal at Waverley against Whorethorn has to up there

Goal scoring blitzes and comparisons with older games eg 1972 GF are irrelevant

I was there in sixties and seventies.

No one knew about zone defence or patterns or any of those extra features. Coaches drill all their players today in manoeuvres and plays to stem the tide.
Tsunami - no hope.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
