Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I am as pessimistic as they come, but im not really "worried" about this game.

I believe we want it more than any other team, are bonded and play for each other more than any other team, and if we bring the "220+ pressure" which is almost a certainty, then the odds are significantly in our favour.

Tell me about it! It is all I'm hearing. Anyone gonna make the slightest suggestion that this might kill the Dogs momentum?

Ross Lyon even said that although we did well after the QF bye that it now grows exponentially the need for intense match practice.

I'd like to hear how the Dogs would have had nothing to lose but with another week to think about it the pressure is now on!

Does Ross have the mathematics behind his exponential prediction?

Does he know how this differs from say linear increase......

Sheeesh.

Do you know if there is anywhere we can see those pressure ratings published for this years matches?

In a few years time the football world will look back at 2021 and say "Well of course Melbourne won it. Have a look at the list. Gawn, Petracca, Oliver , May, Lever, Viney, Brayshaw, Langdon, Pickett, TMac, Brown, Fritta, Jackson , Rivers ....
They had a rock solid game plan with all those guns playing for each other and on a single minded mission."

I would tag Libba at the clearances but not around the ground. Mostly with Harmes and try to get him on the spread.

I wouldn’t push Salem up to stoppages but let ANB push up. This would mean Treloar or Smith will outnumber us, so we would need to set up defensively to prevent losing out the front of the clearances. I also like Max grabbing the ball out of the ruck because we can win clearances despite being outnumbered.

Pressure will be the key.  How we bring pressure , apply pressure and manage the pressure.  Controlled and disciplined aggression.  That’s the magic !!!

I was feeling pretty concerned after watching the Dogs on Saturday. Thought they were magnificent and their depth was really going to stretch us. But I think you are right...if we bring an immense amount of pressure to them then we can take away exactly what they do so well...which is release to the front of the contest. When they do that, they can use their strategies of mixing up their numbers and alignment in the next space forward to make it hard for our defence. The pressure can make it hard for them to get to the front like that.

Also, as I heard on the radio today, they love to defend via the scoreboard. I.e. get a lead and use the scoreboard situation to make teams start doung things they wouldn't normally do. Massive pressure from the start and don't let them get an early lead.

Tickets sold out in 9 minutes according to The Western Australian. Over 120,000 hopefuls missed out.

One outlet state at its peak the queue was 180,000, most likely people logging in after when I did, not knowing about the queue feature.  At the in-person one at crown only the first 8 people in line got a ticket.

To me and others there was the impression that Goodwin didn't want to show the bulldogs too much tactically in anticipation of meeting in the finals. The Bulldogs had more to play for then and couldn’t hold anything back.

We all know that we can cover the assets of the Doggies ... and then some! As Smith (aka Cats' mouthpiece) has said, we are the 'most white hot team' he has played in finals - and that says something. A few other teams, coaches, key players are saying it, as well.

Attitude, killer instincts, team play will all contribute to this GF win for the Dees.

if-the-gourmet-cheeses-haven-t-yet-been-ordered-by-stadium-caterers-then

IF ... the gourmet cheese platters with quince paste haven't yet been ordered by Optus Stadium caterers ...

THEN ...they'd better be quick. There is a lot of navy blue and red wandering around Perth at the moment.

The club being in Perth for a week or two before the bulldogs gave us a head start on winning over the locals.  The club made a huge effort with their 'get aboard the Dees' bus, some free food vouchers, some free scarves etc.  And, Max would have won over quite a few more all on his own in the PF.

We will have most of the neutrals for the GF.

Interesting.

Curious that it wasn't noted that both Bruce and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan played in that game.

Petty was one on one on Bruce for the whole game. Without Bruce in the team,  as bingers noted (and Webber too in another thread), we have the option of playing Petty on Naughton. Or we could go with what Monatgna suggested we ended up doing anyway - letting them have the match up.

There are a couple of other points i'd put to Joey if i had the chance.

One, Monatgna reckons that ring a rosie stuff happened all game. I don't think that is true. I'm sure May had Naughton for large chunks of the game.

Two, I know Monatgna's point was that they were trying to engineer a Lever Naughton match up (and i guess May being exposed on the quicker Hannan).

But Lever ended up with 15 intercept possessions and it seems to me Goody would be pretty happy with that that. Hardly an example of quelling Lever's influence.

And Naughton only had three marks and 2 goals, albeit it in slippery conditions, and Hannan the one goal so hardly a raging tactical success.

The issue with the Cat and Mouse plan is that last time Josh Bruce was playing, and kept Petty occupied, i think we'd be okay with the match up of Petty on Naughton, and keeping Lever out of it, so it may not work as effectively,

we did a lot in round 19 that we simply won't allow to happen in the GF, and that should worry the dogs because it was a draw based on predicted scores.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
