Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Probably due for a correction then.

And how. I just love these meaningless stats, and how some people attach meaning to them. We’ve been the no. 1 team this year, and so it will go on Saturday.

Oliver 28 possesions 15 contested 7 tackles,Seedsman 36, Keys 29. Obviously too lazy to assess on the park, just looked at the stats after the game

That was a quiet game for Clarry. Sure he got 28, but he didn't have his usual influence.

A lot of meat and potato footballers have won Brownlows. Wines is a good player, but he's not in the class of Oliver or Bontempelli or even Petracca. Still, when you've only got Boak to take votes off you, it helps.

Wines seems like a nice guy though. Glad Bontempelli didn't win it. Barrett won't know what to do with himself.

Well done Ollie Wines, even if it is a fantastically silly little award. Echuca’s had a big night! We presume you’re backing your best mate Jack Viney this weekend. Well done also to Marcus Bontempelli for winning the AFLPA MVP. And the best player in the AFL, as voted by those whose opinions matter most - objectively and analytically - well done to Clayton Oliver for winning the AFL Coaches Award, an honour made even more significant  by winning a 2021 Premiership Medal, and the Norm Smith Medal.

oops….meant to save this for Sunday morn….

And clarry not even top 6 in the MVP, players have no clue, MVP most overrated award, coaches award is no 1 coaches watching every game the closest.

In our last big showing in 2018 when Angus came 3rd, for interest I looked at Clarries performance that year.

13 Votes in 6 games, only 2 times 3 Votes.

Look how far he's come in this period. Fantastic effort and just rewards this week.

And now 29 years since a non-midfielder won it, and even that was a ruckman - scott wynd

Sad to read Steven May is just the 160th best player in the competition but I’m glad we have some others who can pick up the slack for him.

29 years since a non-midfielder won it. But I'd argue I would have S. May in our team ahead of any of the 30 or so midfield vote winners from other teams.

May will deliver a flag, the others just deliver lots of stats.

100% should be voted on by the coaches or an independent panel like the AA team.
Umpires don’t know anything about the game beyond the rules. And even that’s questionable.

Edit: Tmac polling more votes than Lever, May and Salem combined tells you everything you need to know.

This is truly a shocking stat.

By his speech Wines would trade places with Oliver for a GF spot in a heartbeat.

As Henry Ford said  "..History is more or less bunk..."

Now if this statistical genius understood what he was quoting, and understood stats that are not necessarily basedon the same premise, condtions, etc are generally meaningless with regards to predictions.

This year is not like any other year let alone the last 8, due to the non-existent pre-finals bye and the pre- GF bye unique to 2021. This renders all recent history meaningless.

For the dim-witted as an example I will note as follows:

For the past 16 years (a good sample size) the QF winners go on to win their PF 28 times out of 32 or 88% of games.

Yet this year only 1 of the 2 QF winners won their PF, (the Dees) , thus a rate of 50% chance. Port Power had an 88% chance of winning, and given the travel of the Dogs and home ground advantage should have had probably a 95% chance - but they lost.

Due to the whole Bye discontinuity in the football universe.

Possibly why Wines showed such dissappointment tonight not making the GF

Get it Swamp boy? I'm not on Twitter so I suppose he'll have to just get this by osmosis or something.

Goodes won it (shared it) as a ruckman in 2003. He won it later as a ruck-rover and should have won it again as a centre half forward. Just a sensational player. And Wanganeen won it the year after Wynd, don’t forget, as a back pocket.

The award is based on subjective opinion. We’ll always argue over whether the winner deserved it or not. I don’t have any problem with Wines winning the medal

Max, Trac and Clarry were always going to take votes of each other.

From my biased perspective, Clarry is the most influential player in the league. Coaches award a far better reflection of players value over the season

Surprised the umps don’t seem to rate any other doggies player other than the Bont. McCrae definitely worth some votes surely.

Don’t know why Parish polled so well. Anytime I watched him this year his kicking was bang average. No teammates taking votes off him I suppose

Awards ceremonies are as boring as. Would anyone care if the TV event was ditched and results were just announced during the week?

Congratulations to Ollie Wines. He would admit that he would swap it for a gig at the big dance.

What is in the water @ Echuca. I always thought Clarrie came from Shepparton. Imagine going to play Echuca in the Junior Footy knowing Viney & Wines are waiting for you.

I noticed in previous years there were times when umpires continued to give votes to players after they had become ineligible. I wasn’t able to watch the count this year, so I don’t know if this happened again. But I've always thought that it’s a silly act to waste a vote that could have gone to another worthy recipient. Did anyone notice it this year?

How many votes did Cerra poll?

1 vote. Worth a future 2nd round pick 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Think you'll find that Cerra polled twice for a total of three votes, which is more votes than May, Salem, Langdon, Brayshaw, Petty, Harmes, Sparrow, Jordon, Jones, Hibberd, Melksham, Bowey, Baker, Chandler, Jetta, Tomlinson, Vanders, Rivers, Weideman, Hunt, Browns M & B, Nibbler and Spargo combined.

On that basis, a future 2nd round pick sounds about right. :D

Good point.  I looked at Goodes but felt he was a bit like Jim Stynes who created a ruck-type role for himslef but was playing more like a large midfield who could ruck.

Point still stands. The midfielders who now monopolise the award are all pretty good though.

Not only that, midfielders who accumulate a lot of the ball tend to win it.

Neale, Tom Mitchell and now Wines are all very good players but I’d argue that there are others who have a lot more of an impact on games than these players.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
