Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Though BBB put in a shocker in his last game for Casey, and hasn’t had a chance to regain form, he couldn’t do worse than SW did against Collingwood.

Agreed, BBB's next 100 games would be a 100% improvement on Weid's output last Monday,

I would really like to know the circumstances behind Brown's 4 possession/0 mark game against Sydney's VFL side? Was he injured? Did he have the sooks?

In any case, if BBB isn't ready for Essndon, Weid will make way for M Brown.

Some overreactions going on about Weid IMO.

Partly because he's been the new whipping boy since the start of the year, partly because footy forums/social media tend to make everyone make things black and white, but also because we had a poor loss and everyone looks for a singular blame point.

Apparently, despite being smashed in disposals, tackles, marks, hitouts, clearances, and having horrendous ball use, that's all on Weid. He was poor, no doubt, likely to be dropped now for at least a few weeks, but the hysteria about him seems over the top.

Reminds me of the 'Is Goodwin the right guy' thread where it's up and down based on that week's performance.

Weid will become just a good average serviceable player I reckon. The sooner MFC fans reconcile that and then manage to look more broadly at the circumstances, some of his own making, around his performances; the more reasonable the discussion will (hopefully) become.

You can’t expect the discussion to be “reasonable” when we are effectively down a player every week. That is an honest evaluation of SW’s input to the club’s performances so far. Just a blurry void where a player ought to be standing, and right in front of the goals no less.

Mate, you’ve just said if we stick with Weid hopefully one day he’ll become “average”.

I think that actually nestles you in with some of his biggest detractors, more than you obviously realise.

No, it just means you missed the point. I was referencing the expectations on him and the inability of many footy fans to realize there is a lot of space between being a dud or being a superstar.

Your "honest evaluation" doesn't really reconcile with the coaches who had him top 10 in the Bluey last year.

People writing off Weid after a poor month are just as bad as those who thought he was a superstar after his 'breakout game' in 2018.

Overreactions.

Interesting comparing Weid with Josh Schache and Tom Boyd at the Bulldogs. All high draft picks. All average around 9 touches, 1 goal and one contested mark. Boyd played 5 seasons and now gone. Schache into his 6th season as with Weid. Boyd and Weid both played their best game in a final but could never build on it. Schache has played only one game this season and destined for the chop.

I see your point, and I should have said his “contribution to the club this season”.

Question for you though; do you think he has a future at the club as a week in/week out key forward? Because your own expectations of what he’s to become don’t exactly fit that bill.

Been poor for most of this season, no doubt. I'm just not convinced that defines his career though. Has had bad luck with consistently badly timed injuries, including this year. Brown has had the same problem this year after not having a proper preseason too.

I think maybe you're taking my use of the word 'average' as being the classic Aussie way of saying 'bad'. I don't mean it like that, I mean it in it's true form. I would class players like Spargo, ANB, Hunt, Hibberd, Tomlinson, Brayshaw, Harmes etc as 'average', and all of them have been selected pretty consistently this year, played a role, and contributed to team performance. IMO, over his career, that's the level Weid will fit into.

Personally, I think fitness will be the thing that makes or breaks his career. In 2020 he was covering a huge amount of territory and had his best year. If he can get a solid run without injury where he can build that tank I believe he'll carve out a decent career.

I agree that he has the ability to play a role. But $650k (as is the rumour) is not a role players salary in 2022.

So he can play a role but he will have to illustrate a willingness to understand his limitations or explode through them in the next few weeks.

That "rumour" is a couple of years old mate. Pretty clearly he won't be asking for anywhere near that this year.

Whether he stays or goes, I hope we invest in a future key forward prospect, potentially through the draft, as we're looking a bit thin in that area in a few years.

There is no one in the league that would pay him 650 or anything close. If there is then they would on that basis be prepared to cough up a decent draft pick for him. Take it and run is my hope.

Weideman is not going to pop up suddenly and kick 5 goals any time soon no matter how many more weeks we play him at the moment. He's never going to be a Neita or a Schwarta with an intimidating physical presence anyhow. He has to either get really smart about positioning or develop a stronger lower body, torso, and stronger hands. He often gets to the right position but then doesn't have the strength to see it through. Brushed off like a fly.

BBB is reported as going through a mid-season pre-season. Make of that what you will. (Clearly not meeting expectations set by the football department).

The forgotten man is Mitch Brown. No star but a proven forward and goal kicker who knows and plays his role well. And he actually kicks goals and is a no fuss player. He could be our Clark Keating waiting in the wings...the September specialist.

Worth a shot as clearly FF is a poisoned chalice in the meantime.

There is a correlation with sub-par players going well in the Bluey and the dees performance that year

Agree.

Think he will stay on a 2 year extension for reasonable pay.

Some on here will again have to eat humble pie if he finds his best form. For some reason we don’t seem to encourage a leading forward option in forward entries. I loved the Gawn kick from straight in front, to Kozzie in the pocket, with 3 Pies Defenders on him. Think they rebounded for an easy goal.  Just great play from the Captain, at a crucial time in the game.

Also agree that we need another young key forward to develop.

It is exciting that we have a few NGA players and a possible father/son to select, at a time when we have a reasonable list, that will allow time for players to be developed.

I see a boy that has lost all confidence in his marking.

As a result he is not leading.

I also see a boy who is 196 cms and was BOG in our first final in years, against the Cats, a couple of years ago.

I don’t believe you lose your talent that easily and that confidence is a big thing in footy.

Time for Choco to get the best out of this kid. It is easy to write off a kid, but I just feel that all is not lost with him.

I recall the comments last year about Tom Mac and all those who wanted him gone, Hunt and Spargo too and plenty wanted Fritta out as well. I wanted ANB gone.  Hello, we are on top of the ladder and those 5 have played nearly every game with only  Fritta missing one due to injury.

Weid may fail, but I am not writing him off.

Reckon he could benefit from a few long sessions with the club shrink. His inability to hold a grab is getting to the embarrassing stage.

How often do you read from AFL players, had a great pre season and was able to build my season strong performance off preseason.

Weideman and BBB had significant disruptions to their preseasons, and both are struggling. Agree with others Weideman confidence shot and it seems BBB not fully fit.

Weid hopefully better next year after full preseason, and BBB comes good after the bye, following his 6 week mini preseason.

As TMac is proving a great preseason focussed on speed, agility, endurance and strength will help both Weid & BBB for next year.

Got no issue with weid if he stays he could well show us all one day, however now after 6 years they shouldn’t be paying for what he might be but what he is now, if he stays under those terms then more power to him, other wise let him walk and take what we can get, there is no shortage of talented kids and senior players out there who would kill for a tilt at a flag who we can attract in his place.

I think we hold onto Weed on a 2 year incentive based deal, i know he's been pathetic since he's come back from his surgery.

Get him on the same keto diet like Tmac and follow all that Tmac does in pre season and the like.

We've put 6 years into this kid he's devoid of any sort of confidence, if he is willing to do all that Tmac does im happy to commit to him.

So what is it about Steak ? that helps you catch a ball... ??

It's not fitness or effort limiting Weid, it's skill... The bloke can't hold onto the pill.

You can lead to the flank, use your rump to hold out your defender, t-bone anyone trying to block you, meat the footy with both hands and steak your claim as a forward who can last the forequarters.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
