Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Its still early in the week - they haven't even opened a PF thread.  These comments are from the bf, SF Review thread.

Mitch Cleary is spot on. Sav has to play against the Demons. They have two elite defenders who help each other out more than than other defensive duo in the comp. Sav’s presence alone, let alone his aerial ability, will give May and Lever plenty to think about and give Hawkins and Cameron the relative freedom they had last night. ...  Gotta get it down there first. Selwood hasn’t had a sniff of it in finals. Parfitt is out . Danger has been average in finals . No O’Connor not in to tag. Oliver torched us last time and they have the best ruckman.

We've been crappy starters for a while now. Haven't kicked 3 goals in a first quarter since Rd 19 vs Richmond (6 games ago). Would love to actually put a few on the scoreboard early and put the other team under pressure instead of a dour slog or being under pressure ourselves.

Danger was absolutely smashing centre bounces when GWS were coming big time at us

Pretty unconvincing. Dees will probably maul us. I think we will be 4 goals down at quarter time. We are still mentally fragile.  Tuohy, henry and stanley great. Holmes looks very promising, but needs to clean up in front of goal.

Wouldn't it be great though if Higgins came good and played a couple of blinders in the finals. Maybe he has been foxing all year, just to come out cherry ripe for the big stage ... ( cue end of dream sequence music, screen goes wobbly as we wake up).

Midfield:  Stanley, Duncan, Selwood, Dangerfield, Guthrie V Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw.  Danger the only winner out of those. And he's got a stuffed hand or finger or something.

... Oliver is the standout, Fit Danger/Traca same level, I'd put Current Selwood a tad over Viney, Guthrie and Duncan both a class above Brayshaw. Gawn a class above Stanley

... Yeah about that H&A. In a final id have Bradshaw and Viney over Guthrie in Duncan.  Just more finals body's and style.  ...

...Not sure whether Bradshaw wants to come out of retirement..

... Im hoping the dee's selectors are reading the forum and I confuse them enough to cause chaos come game day.

I haven't liked Kolo for years glad people are coming with me on this

Just one last thing, for the earlier posts stating Dalhouse can come back in and play as an inside mid, the mental institutions are still open during lock down so you are able to check in. His season has been well below average as a forward, given far too many chances and has zero capacity to play as an inside mid.  Just stop it. All of you. All of you.

Melbourne aren't that good.  Their forward line is hardly scary apart from Pickett - smalls trouble us - and we have a stronger midfield. I don't think Gawn scares Stanley either.  It's their defence that gets the job done and makes the rest of their team appear better then they are.  A defensive forward on Salem and make Lever and May accountable.  Sav, Hawkins, Cameron and Rohan could trouble them with the right delivery.

...  That's the key - high bombs like we saw against Port won't get the job done.  We played with better method and thought on Friday night - need to do the same against Melbourne.

This bit is actually funny. It’s the likes of what you’d see on DL.

I was surprised how civil they were to their own and to the opps.

Some posters on DL go in fairly hard on some of our players.

Obviously I'm posting this as a joke but it is always a good idea to read these things because first aid is constantly improving. For example, the 'Heimlich' maneuver has been out of date for a long time despite it still constantly appearing in movies for dramatic/comedic effect. Even Heimlich himself stopped recommending it years ago.

Older Adults and Choking

Did you know that older adults over the age of 65 are seven times more likely to choke on food than children aged 1 to 4 (Cichero 2018)?

Loss of muscle mass and strength - which is a natural part of the ageing process - affects muscles related to chewing and swallowing, increasing the risk of choking (Cichero 2018).

Here's a collection from Geelong's BF site:

We know we can blow them out of the water, we also know they will fight hard and have the capacity to get back into it ... We win 2 quarters then I reckon we win the game. We win one quarter ... then we best be up 66 points instead of 44.

(In response to a Dees poster) You might be worried because we've been in so many prelims. I'm worried because we've lost 9 out of 11 of them.

If the weather remains on schedule, a wet track, it greatly helps out Melbourne who have a brilliant quartet of mids and smalls.

I actually think a wet track helps us because it makes it harder for them to expose us for pace out the back and on the ground in our defence. I hope it buckets with rain personally because it advantages us imo.

Geelong crazys non negotiable rules for winning: do not lose

We have the home ground advantage ha ha. Melbourne have the better mid-field; we just have to face that. The collapse of our mid-field after half time is why the Tigers ran over us in the 2 finals and why the Dees did the same a fortnight ago. I'm hoping the selectors go for a young player to replace Parfitt (who has in any case been in great from). I'd be happy with Clark or Narkle, and to lesser extent Simpson. Holmes showed us the virtue of youth ( and let's get off his back about kicking).

In response to a post suggesting Guthrie to Petracca to keep him accountable: Guthrie on Petracca, mental picture a Willy Wagtail trying to root an Emu.

Kolo won't hold Fritsch a second time round; in truth Kolo should be dropped - he was awful on Friday night - but we all know he won't be. Melbourne also have classier defenders - another bitter truth. But we can still win if we kick straight; if the fearsome threesome up forward get off the leash; if our mids can get a few decisive centre clearances; and if the Dees suffer an attack of nerves ( remember the 2007 PF?).

Basically will come down to the midfield battle and converting our opportunities. Don’t really rate their forwards but expect them to get more inside 50’s. If our forwards can score early I think we are some chance. We won’t blow a big lead if we get one like last time. Tend to think though that the D’s are primed. Had a charmed run with injury which is what you need to get there.

It will be tough, but we can win. Jake Lever, Steven May & Christian Salem - They must be help accountable; we can't let any of them be the + 1 and set up their play. Max Gawn - Stanley must jump into him all night, Rata to give him a 5 min chop out each qtr. Kysaiah Pickett & Charlie Spargo - Curtailing small forwards influence hasn't been our strong suit. Atkins & Bews will need to be on their games. Clayton Oliver - 37 possessions, 9 clearances & 2 goals last time we played them - with O'Connor & Parfitt injured, who can stop his influence? Over to you, Chris Scott.

losing 9 out of 11 prelims is a horrific record (despite how good the record is to get there)

They have lost 5 PFs (19, 17, 16, 13, 10) and have won 5 PFs (20, 11, 09, 08, 17) for 3 flags (07, 09, 11).

So 50% winning record in PFs is pretty good…

Wish our record was so horrific.

Yes but under Chris Scott, since the 2011 flag they're 1-4 in prelims.

Or 5 out of the last 6 as losses.

I noted in another post that as a sample of Prelim performances, in the immediate last 6 years prior to introduction of the pre-finalsbye, as in this years structure, 11 of those 12 PF's were won by the QF winning teams.

i.e. this year Dees and Port.

The mighty Threepeat hawks the only team to buck this trend

Yep. Prior to the pre-finals bye, the QF winners are 28-4 in prelims.

The four losers are:

  1. Fremantle in 2015 - beaten by the threepeat Hawks
  2. Adelaide in 2006 - beaten by West Coast, who had lost their QF by a point to Sydney during the peak Sydney-West Coast rivalry era
  3. St Kilda in 2005 - beaten by Sydney, who had lost their QF to West Coast by four points during the peak Sydney-West Coast rivalry era
  4. Sydney in 2003 - beaten by the threepeat Brisbane

A bit of a trend there. The only four sides from 2000-2015 to lose the QF but make the Grand Final were either three-peat sides or lost their QF by a tiny margin as part of an amazing rivalry. 2021 Geelong does not fall into either of those buckets.

(Note that all four of these sides went on to win the flag, though...)

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
