Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Triple J is a wasteland.

Triple J used to serve an important purpose, and served it well. I don’t remember what caused it’s descent into mediocrity but the irony is that for many years their slogan was “Enemy of Average.” Sadly, it seems they reconciled with Average and the two are now BFFs. 😥

I blame the '98 Hottest 100. How 'Pretty Fly for a White Guy' snuck through to number one was a bloody indictment.

That year was my final year of high school and a seminal moment in my life. That Hottest 100, in hindsight, was a depressing statement on the direction that JJJ would go for a while.

That would’ve been the start of the downward spiral. Rock bottom was reached years later when a Taylor Swift song topped the list. I used to love the Hottest 100 countdown every Australia Day. I jettisoned Triple J years ago and am grateful Triple R has stayed true.

Might be an anthem for those double jabbed in NSW shortly.

Anyone that says Rock and Roll is dead, just needs to look a little further. Triple J is a wasteland. Community Radio is still playing great new stuff.

Thanks for these, will check them out.

I agree Triple J is unbearable these days (the last couple of decades?) When I do play the radio it is Triple R or PBS although it can depend which show you land on. I'm not a huge fan of indie rock which seems be the predominant genre of rock these days though I'm sure there is still plenty of stuff out there I am yet to discover. No doubt in 10 years I'll hear an album that came out in the last couple of years and think "how have I not heard this before?!"

Right now I’m blasting John Lydon through my ears buds while I vacuum. Not Johnny Rotten, as in, Sex Pistols. John Lydon as frontman of PiL (Public Image Ltd). I do loves me some post-punk.

WCW, you should hunt down a compilation from the British label 110 Below - Journeys in Dub. On there is a seriously brooding and rumbling remix of 'Open Up', Lydon's outing with Leftfield. I think the remix is by Sabres of Paradise (Andy Weatherall and co), from shaky memory. An absolutely perfect track to get you pumped before a prelim.

Unfortunately there's two versions of the album, with different Leftfield remixes (not the 'Open dub' mix). I can't find the one I'm referring to anywhere online except for a brief snippet here, without the slow-burn intro and mad breakdown: https://www.muziekweb.nl/en/Link/JK72793/110-below-Journey-in-dub

I'm guessing that you probably don't have a Dutch library card to listen to the full version? (I actually do happen to have one as it were, but borrowed a couple of books to take on holiday to Sri Lanka right before the world was plunged into chaos and international borders closed. I've probably racked up about €5,000 in overdue fees by now, lol).

Thank you so much Skuit! I’ll defs give it a listen (and probs a jolly good hiding) before tonight’s game! Surprisingly, I don’t have a Dutch library card (I know right, go figure).
Hey, I’ve held back on mentioning S.R. on this thread. You know, the greatest band ever there was, since the dawning of mankind and quite a bit before that. I think they should remain our lil secret. 😉

PS: I can’t believe you mentioned “Open Up.” I listened to that song just last night!

Nor me.

A musical giant. So under appreciated

Another under appreciated giant of modern music died  last week - Lee Scratch Perry.

One of the most influential musicians of all time, in particular on electronic music and to a lesser extent hip hop.

With Gift of Gab in between. A [censored] year in music. Two of the finest ever hip hop lyricists followed by the greatest dubman to ever grace the planet (I feel fortunate enough to have seen Scratch live one; he was wearing a saucepan on his head).

So now that I've established a bit of music street-cred I can segue into what I really listen to on gameday .  . For a period during the mid-90s, SANFL matches at Footy Park led out with 'It's Raining Men', by the Weather Girls.

I've never been able to disassociate that song from the excitement of seeing the team run out. And I really don't care about the homoerotic overtones, I still can't help but bust it out full-voiced in the build-up. Hallelujah!

I've thought about your earlier reference to the Chemical Brothers, and while I love their first two albums (and sporadic tracks since then), I think the most appropriate track would be 'Galvanise'. A mantra for the team and our defensive brick-wall. Don't hold back, the time has come, to galvanise. Some sample lyrics: Be cool, man, look smarter, don't hold back! And you shouldn't even care about those losers in the air. Don't hold back! If you think about it too much you might stumble, trip up, fall on your face. Don't hold back! Don't you think it's time you get up, crunch time like a sit up, the monkey pace. Don't hold back!

With such a rich back catalogue, it's impossible to pick my favourite tracks from the three aforementioned deceased artists, but here's a sample of each that I cherish.

Lee Scratch in imperial form:

Not my favourite Gift of Gab track, but hard to go past as a demonstration of his uniquely dextrous linguistic prowess:

On a personal note, the last one is a Cambodian bootleg with Doom and RZA over the top. I lived there for a while.

Thanks for everyone for posting their taste on here... some of it I love, some of it I cannot connect to ... and thats the awesomeness of humans... anyway... for me...as I slip on my pre match anxiety suit - I was reflecting on my week of heavy heavy stuff... my work takes me to many places and many experiences,...made me think of humanity as a whole

So my frustration at humans led me to this...

So damn easy to cave in - man kills everything

and then my respite...

and being a saltwater person.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
