Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We're on the path to a flag, or multiple flags.  This is the start, so yes.  But when you get this close, you need to make the most of the opportunity, as it is very hard to get to the point we are at.

Completely agree with your sentiments, but it is so hard to reach a prelim its good to grab the cahnce

I have always thought we are 1 year too early, and have improvements for next year to make it the flag year.

Brown will be more comfortable, Tomlinson back, huge stocks of talent emerging all over the ground will be better, and hungrier , for the 2021 experience, whatever that turns out to be.

The time is now and only a flag will satisfy me.

Just about everything has gone right this year and we've had a lot of luck with injuries (not just the very few we've suffered but the ones to important players our opposition have copped).

We may not find ourselves in such a great position again and can't just assume we'll make it next year.

This year has the feeling of Richmond 2017 about it to me and we must capitalise on the opportunity.

In 2000 we made a GF with a young list after the retirement of a number of champions in 1999. Everyone then thought it was the beginning, but it never eventuated. Even at the end of 1994 under Neil Balme, the world was going to be our oyster, but injuries, in fighting etc...all happened and we fell away fast.

Again in 2018, people expected it to be the start of something big, with an immediate drop off. Take your chances when you can, because you can never be sure if the opportunity will come around again. Things change, players get injured etc..., you can't just expect everything will go right again next year.

Even at the end of 1994 under Neil Balme, the world was going to be our oyster, but injuries, in fighting etc...all happened and we fell away fast.

The time is now, the worlds have aligned and only a flag is worth celebrating! Then start a dynasty thereafter.

If you are taking this timetable, you are already too late.

Correct - I do not have a crystal Ball or any special insight into the futre for that matter. But past performance and behavious is one indicator of future results, esp. the 2021 performance of this year and the Dees team especially have been outstanding in all facets of team culture. If we don't have a good 2022 then evreyone needs to give the game away.

But Oliver and Trac among many won't allow it.

Always seize the moment  - Certainly its here next Friday and on.

I have always held the belief that a opportunity like this has to be taken because next year may bring new injuries and form lost.

We have had a great run with few or negligable injuries and some players like Gawn Oliver Petracca Harmes Langdon Neal-Bullen Brown Jackson Fritsch Sparrow and Rivers striking exceptional form at the right time.

We need Tom McDonald Spargo Pickett Hunt Bowey and Petty at their best and then we have it in the bag.

We can and should win it but fate may have a say in the result.

Should anyone be "satisfied" with anything less than a premiership - Hell NO

If we do not win this this year we can still acknowledge improvement in both the list and the way the team has played

But satisfied - we should never be satisfied unless we win a flag

Yes. Satisfied but not happy.

We were projected to finish outside the 8 according to many scribes, and most of us had us finishing 5th - 8th with a possible finals win. We've smashed those expectations and the next 5 years look very promising for this reasonably young but highly talented list.

And despite what others think, I think we've got some stiff competition in Port and Bulldogs who schooled us in round 19 so it's not our flag to lose. Those two are our major threats. Not to mention if Geelong click on prelim night.

You've nailed my opinion BBP. Nicely put.

I'm measuring satisfaction vs. my thoughts on how we'd go prior to Round 1, not where we sit currently which is a massive shift in the goal posts. The team has had a belter of a year, and it wouldn't be right to walk around [censored] off if we don't win it all, like we barrack for Carlton; given they've exceeded initial expectations but ultimately fell short.

Hopefully this is the start of 5-6 years of consistently playing finals and giving ourselves a chance at the ultimate glory.  But having finished first and earned the double chance, making the Grand final is a pass mark now.

Only a Melbourne supporter would be satisfied if we failed to win the flag this year.

This is the best injury run I have ever seen and their are no other standout teams.

We may never see a chance like this again. We must win it this year.

There would have to be a collapse of epic proportions in the coming years if this is our one and only chance of a flag.

Yes, injuries could ruin us over the coming years, but the current state of the list does not suggest that 2021 is our one big chance.

Had very good lists under Swooper and The Rev too. Injuries played a big role in ending our chances back then.

Any other year in living memory, I would be satisfied to finish 4th, but this year is different.

We have been the most consistent team for the year, finished top of the ladder, have most of our squad available for selection, are in form, have had a weeks rest and there isn’t a ‘super-team’ to come up against.

This is the first time in my life that we are the team to beat; so, despite our fantastic performances to date, I will be not be satisfied unless we win the flag.

The season has given me plenty already.

Two more wins, great.

Happy with small mercies, and accepting of failing to clear the last hurdles.

Best year, so-far that I have experienced.

The run of wins, being on top of ladder, winning the big games, our not give up style, players reaching their potential and exceeding it, plenty of media attention and MFC giving time to social networking through the internet.

Go Dees.

I thought we'd struggle to make top 4. If we lose a close one next week, it would still be a very good season with a largely very young list that is on the rise.

If we get smashed like that last PF we played in, then I would be worried.

But there is a lot of long term excitement with our current list. We are not at the end of the road like Geelong, or to a lesser extent Port and Brisbane.

Having said all that, we have been blessed with an amazing injury run and a pretty even competition where there isn't a very strong and obvious stand out. This may never happen again. Our golden opportunity is now, and to not grab it with both hands would be really disappointing.

In fact FD, we are the stand out team! I voted no only because I believe we will have a flag or two in the next couple of years but in fact I will be very disappointed if we dont get the job done this year.

Read the entire thread.

Seems as if most of the people saying they would be "satisfied" if we don't win the flag this year seem to think we are are some sort of inevitable trip regardless of failure this season. It very often does not work that way, especially with our mob.

We simply cannot let this chance slip.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
