Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I definitely prefer to play GWS, but Greene just made sure that won't happen.

Beating Geelong 3 times in one season is going to be a big ask. On the other hand, they will be exhausted and we will be fresh. Their old legs might give out.

I still hate both these teams with a passion and I hope they bash each other badly this weekend.

Gee what did GWS do to you Jaded, is it the Russian marching band theme song??

Giants beat Geelong by 3 goals round 21 with 10 of best 22 out. And it was in Geelong.

Reckon they're a strong chance.

Yeah, but Geelong kicked 8.17 and Greene kicked 4, Dangerfield had 3 possessions, that isn’t happening this week

None of this Paul Keating ‘doing them slowly’ nonsense either. I want it over by 1/4 time and to pull away from there. I want it to be emphatic.

I want to run them off their feet. For Oliver to run Selwood stupid and to see the look in Dangerfields eyes when he realises that there will be no fairytale flag for him.

It will be obvious to one and all that their era is over, forever done and dusted, and we, Melbourne, landed the knockdown punch.

Aside from that I’m not that fussed.

I would hate to lose to Geelong more than GWS. But I would also take greater pleasure in beating Geelong. Losing to Geelong would be a souring footnote to the round 23 win and it would change the way I think about that game. As it was probably my happiest sporting experience in recent memory I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen.

But part of me also says that’s a defeatist frame of mind. We should want to play the best team and expect to win.

And we are that good that we should expect to win.

Dilemma for me.  Geelong are ageing; GWS will be under-manned.

Conclusion:  Prefer GWS, but expect it to be Geelong.

Bottom line:  We will run either team off their legs in the last (if not earlier).  Comfortable progress to the Granny.

Can the geriatric cats even play out 4 qtrs at this late stage of the year? Even without Tom 'the martyr' Greene out, GWS could still do the biz against them. While that is a little worrying given our loss to GWS earlier this year, we're not the same team. We're bigger, badder, uglier (think Dogga's tooth, grrr). Relentless.

TL;DR - don't care who we play, it'll just be a stat on our way to the GF.

Prefer to play GWS because they struck it lucky in the battle of the bridge and looked gone at the end. The Cats are also looking cooked. It’s been a long hard year for them but they will have far too much experience for the Giants without Greene.

Geelong is a lock for us.

Port is a lock for us.

Flag is a lock for us.

Wake up and smell the coffee Mrs Bueller! Your MFCSS is still leeeeeading you down the disbelieving path!

Yes both teams have game-breakers that can turn it on when 'let off the chain' but unfortunately for them - we have double the list who have the ball on a chain.

Sorry, didn't cast the vote. I don't have a clear preference. What I'd like to see is a hard-fought and hard-won, margin within 5 points game. Rohan kicked 3.3 somehow, Hawkins kicked 1.2 and superstar Cameron kicked 0.5. Captain Selwood and Co. got caught 5 times for their skillful hand ball pass -- throw -- they did it to us in Rd 23, Selwood's one resulting in Hawkin's 3rd goal.

After beating Geelong twice, I'd rather not play them a 3rd time. Beating a team 3 times in one season is hard. Geelong have caused us enough heartbreak over the years. I'd rather them not have the opportunity to do it again.

On the other side of the poll, and especially with Toby out? I think Geelong will win. And thus.. I'm [censored] my pants 😅😅. I hate geelong, so much.

For some reason I’m more nervous about the prelim, I think if we can win then we will steam roll who ever we play in the GF. I also think the Giants can beat the Cats this weekend, I think they’ll be steeling themselves for this game and make it a tough contested match. In the other game I think the Lions will easily account for the Dogs and I wouldn’t put it past them to beat Port either. This is unfamiliar territory for a Dees supporter to be sitting back in semi’s week watching our likely opponents battle it out, something I could quite easily become used to.

Bit like above, the tougher this game the better. We need our PF to be against an opponent that is similar to Port, which in effect is a combination of what both these Teams bring to the table, short passing of Cats with variation in forwards, less Greeens of course in GWS line-up.

Want to play and think we'll play Geelong.

GWS are without some key players, but their midfield core are still in tact and genuinely worry me. They always seem to be show up against us and they are contested, smart and clean. A bit like the Bulldogs outfit but better. Mumford also seems to play to hurt so could cause some injuries to our midfield group.

Geelong are old and slow and invite pressure. It is no surprise that they seem to drop out of finals consistently in recent times as their gameplan simply does not hold up in finals. We will be fresh, hungry and are in great form. Given Connors is gone, they really don't have another full time tagger which plays to our strength. Their forward line is worrying but under finals intensity, we should limit clean supply at the source.

They are no certainty against GWS so will boil down to which team has more energy.

Q1/ GWS because I'd like to see the entitlement attitude I've encountered with many Hand-bagger supporters crushed by a straight-sets elimination.

Q2/ I really have no idea who will win this one - and that's a good thing.

Want to play the cats even though they are a tougher opponent beating them in a preliminary final will be more satisfying. If we are lucky enough to win and make it through to the big dance I also think I a tougher hit out in the preliminary final will be important especially with the pre granny bye.

That's generally my view too.

My main hope is that GWS can still be compeditive enough against Geelong that they give them the hardest game possible and pummel the absolute crap out of each other.  A few more pulled hammies etc for dad's army would be a great outcome as well.

As it's turned out, I think finishing on top was a big advantage to us as well.  I expect the other prelim to be between Port or the Bulldogs and both of them look far more formidable in the current circumstances than Geelong or GWS.

If we make it through to the GF, our opponent will have had to work far harder than us to get their, which I think is an advantage this time of year as so many MFC teams have found getting to the GF in a dilapidated state though having to fight every inch of the way there.

One game at a time, but I really do think we have set ourselves up in a great position to this point.

If we do make it this will only be the fourth time we’ve played a non-Collingwood/Essendon team in the grand final. From 16 of them.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
