Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I’m not sure it’s been mentioned earlier in the thread, but I thought Chris Fagan’s impromptu comments at the end of his presser about Melbourne was a nice touch. To summarise, he said full credit to Melbourne, they are a wonderful footy team and are very hard to beat.

I can guarantee you that you won’t hear those sort of comments from Chris Scott if we roll the Cats a third time this year in the Prelim.

Chris Fagan is all class. We as a club were extremely lucky with the amount of service he gave us under Danners as an assistant coach.

Compared to Scott who is nothing but a sour and sore [censored] loser.

I don't have the numbers, but I suspect the overwhelming majority of goals kicked against us have been my mid sized forwards.

Definitely our weakest area defensively.

That said it is skewed a bit because opposition big forwards don't mark it inside 50, and the ball almost always come to ground, so ground ball get goals are basically the only way teams can scoring goals against us. Last night was the perfect example of thst phenomenon.

The bottom line is goody is not going to be too fussed if a player like Cameron kicks 5 if the opposition only kicks 8 or 9 in total

I can only think of Brisbane, both times.

I know it’s been mentioned but I really enjoyed Sparrow’s game. I thought he was tough and composed - he’s shown signs of not being quiet up to the pace of the game this year, but last night he looked the part. He’s directly competing with Jordon for a spot, in my mind he put his nose in front last night (obviously the MFC already thought he did).

On Jordon, both last week and this week as the unused medical sub, he’s come out as stoked at the end as if he’d played every minute. I love seeing how invested everyone is, even if they’re not on the field at the time.

I was too invested in consuming post match content that i didn't get to writing my thoughts down, a little late now but none the less i feel a ton of pride in the boys to back up last week and the last months effort so emphatically.

Sparrow, Nibbler and Brayshaw were all great last night, felt like any time we needed either of them to win the ball in a passage they delivered. I'm very critical of Harmes most weeks, thought he was fantastic again. This also goes to my points when critising him, last night he wasn't prolific but did the simple things well. Some games he can get 30 touches but make some silly mistakes or think he is a superstar mid and get caught on the ball. There were times last night when he got the ball in traffic and i felt very assured he would deal with it.

Surprised to see a lack of superlatives for Petracca, felt like him and Oliver showed you what damaging players looked like. We win last night by 70+ if turns his first two points into goals. Lions were there for the taking and Petracca and Oliver were having fun bursting through any number of Lions that tried to tackle them.

Back 6 brilliant in the air. Probably a little nervous in the first quarter and made some unusual errors leading to easy goals for small forward brigrade at the lions.

Fantastic win all round, nervous for what lies ahead. I'll be representing the WA demon bigrade rain, hail or shine.

Yo ... someone posted that the side v Brisbane included 9 players playing their first finals.

Who were the virgins? I can only think of:

  • Kozzy
  • Jacko
  • Rivo
  • Spargs (perhaps?)
  • May
  • Sparrow
  • Jordon (although he was med sub)
  • Bowey
  • Petty

I guess the only one I'm not sure about is Spargs. Has he played a final before? If not, who is the nineth virgin?

Just watching the replay sober.  We really dominated the second quarter but it could have been so much more.  Getable set shots missed by Jackson twice, Langdon and McDonald, Petracca missed twice with snaps and an ANB hit up of BBB went too high.  Potentially 7 goals which ended up 6 points.

Smith. Spargo played in all three finals in 2018.

Edit: disregard, Smith played in the PF drubbing. It’s Langdon.

Spago played 2018 finals series - and not too bad either. Ed Langdon was first finalist.

Just watched the replay again a great win for the boys but we should have really torched them, we missed some very getable shots. After watching it 3-4 times I can’t help but be amazed at how long we can keep a top 4 side from scoring, we have never had a team or a gameplan that is so effective at robbing the opposition of the ability to hurt us. I feel happy and mellow and can sleep soundly in the knowledge that our boys will be resting up next week whilst the Cats, Dogs, Lions and Giants will be slugging it out. Well done you mighty Dees.!!!!!💕

Great game, loved watching it with my young son who is loving the start of his football watching life!

On a few things people have said -

1) petty “fake” grabbed at his hamstring as he had just deliberately ran over the boundary - trying to con the umpire in case he paid deliberate. Watch him walk away smiling as he looked toward a teammate.

2) Tmac won’t get dropped. He was average in possessions, but he flew and competed. But the main reason is, how well did the forward line function as a unit with those who played last nigh? 28 shots on goal and plenty of pressure and great play as a UNIT. If he does exactly the same in our next 2 games, but the team wins and someone else kicked the goals, who cares.

Agree completely Y

Viney won 5 free kicks, and gave none away (next best was one 3, then all 2’s and 1’s). He was better than solid. Played his normal uncompromising inside game that demands oppo attention (for which he was rewarded) and makes life so much better for Tracc and Clarry. Didn’t overplay his role, was a perfect team-oriented effort. I reckon he’s reset from his 2 week holiday…..a blessing in disguise.

Also Viney earns his free kicks the honest way, with good old fashioned, hard at it football, not like that [censored] Matthieson or Weightman who kicked 4 goals, all from very suss free kicks for the Bullies today.

As a matter of interest, I watched a fair bit of that game today and I doubt there was more than a half dozen legit handballs, all up, in the game.

8th time that Oliver has had more kicks than handballs for the season. That would have been unheard of in previous years. He's still played some A++ games this season with significantly slanted handball to kick ratios, but it's this balance he's got in his game now that has made him IMO and in the opinion of AFL.com, the best midfielder in the competition.

For him, he played relatively low TOG of 84% too.

On TOG, we had all our young guys (except Bowey) register sub 70% TOG. Incredible management in a final. Rivers, Pickett, Spargo, Sparrow and Jackson carefully managed.

Also, interesting to note McDonald only played 74% TOG, quite a bit lower than Brown or Fritsch.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
