Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

While i don't think Guston fits the category, i agree that crafty veteran players can make an impact. However, lets say Jackson leaves and we pick up Gunston. In 3-5 years time Gunston, B Brown, M Brown, TMAC all are retired/delisted. We then have Weid and V Roo as our talls. Not good.

I hear you. May and Max (pending Jackson situation) are both 30 and will need contingency plans for them also. It's inevitable we're going to drop off in one of these areas in 3-5 years. Most teams do, hence 'premiership window'. But you would think this midfield if we can keep them signed have a longer timeline so shoring up key positions where we're aging will be important for our longer term success.

Petty / Turner should cover May. LJ hopefully covers Gawn so I think we are covered in those key positions s for the next decade. Forward line is where we need talent pronto. We could have sustained success for the next 10 years similar to Geelong if we can develop and attract talent there.

Both McKay and Curnow come out of contract next year so we should definitely see how we can target one of them. Will take a mammoth offer though but could pull of a Tigeresque move like they did for Lynch.

Agreed, Petty looks set to take on more responsibility moving forward. Will need to see a full game or more from Turner before we count him in as covering the best / most dynamic full back in the comp.

If Gunston wants out, he will be looking for a nice tidy package for 2 or 3 years to boost his property portfolio or other pre-retirement earnings. Seems like he is doing an Isaac Smith who was similarly [censored] off with the Hawks. Although Smith remains injury free and without a significant injury history.

So no to Gunston due to age, dollars, and injury history.

I would rather there be opportunities for players on our existing list.  Much better for our training and development program.

For sure, balance between short term and long term is hard here. Imo B Brown was the forward vet pick up for our cup window and I wouldn't over commit further than that.

Both seem unlikely to move from Carlton given that they're finally on the rise, but these two would be just about the only  players in the league I would back throwing the kitchen sink at. Either one would do wonders for our forward line right now. And while we know that we can kick huge scores even without a star forward - just look at Thursday night's result - a true KPF would take our forward line to the next level.

Of course, keeping our current stars - Oliver, Jackson, Brayshaw - should be our number one priority!

At end of 2022. It’s a No.

He was in his prime but not anymore.  We need to save $$$ for the contracts over the next few years.  Smart buying is not Gunston.  More appetite if we wanted a young forward is to go for someone like Jake Riccardi from the Giants.  Would be a cheap buy, young (22) and still plenty of upside.

Nick Larkey is the guy to go for in the next couple of years imo. He's 24.  Norf will be going absolutely nowhere for his entire football career. That's almost a dead cert.

Forget about playing finals, if he wants to know what even winning games is like, he will not see out his career at Norf (jake bowey about to go past him on wins) .  Rfa end 2024.  No reason to think he would cost big coin, he'll be wanting out.

Cameron is in his prime, won the coleman 3 years ago and is the second leading goal kicker this year (42 goals!)

Gunston is injury riddled and a year a way from retirement (15 goals lol)

You suggested taking players 23-27.

I just pointed out that Cameron is well past that and is only 1 year younger than Gunston.

In other words you would not only take 23-27 year old players, you would also take players who will be 30 early next year.

That is fine, I was just clarifying what you were saying is our target age/player.

Point proven but Cameron is clearly an outlier, Gunston is closer to the rule

As a player, 100%, as a team mate... not so sure...

Was captain for a number of years at Crows so can’t be all bad. You would have to check with players on what he is really like!!

Idvtake him ahead of Gunston.

Getting him for 2 years wouldn’t hurt from a forward line perspective.

Any draft picks to get this done ?  Spare $$$ in our budget?? I want a new Audi Q7 but you have to have the buying power !!

Might not be enough to get the job done, but we can offer up our future first this year.

Not that I think Gunston is a viable option but having 3-5 years is more than enough time to draft and develop kids, so it won’t be just Weed and V Roo.

Search process.;

Step 1. Select 'Player rankings; contested marks per game'.

Step 2. Limit selection to 'tall forwards'.

Step 3. Check availability, repeat.

Repeat.

Results after a lot of cleaning of too expensive, too old, too rucky, or just d-heads.

Ben McKay, North Melbourne. Is a defender only, and not yet really proven. But should we ask the 'switch' question? Fun fact: this season Ben McKay has more contested marks per game than his brother.

J Hogan. That'd just be too awkward.

Peter Wright. Oh, that's odd. Didn't he used to be a bit of a lanky potato? Would seem to fit our needs. Bonus points, losing him would basically end Essendon structurally.

Jake Riccardi. 14 goals three behinds in last 6 games, and hasn't been goalless in that time. Good signs but hard to know real value.

Hayden McLean. Is he basically what you would get if you put Weideman in a team with a more powerful forward line than ours but which also needs more ruck support?

Darcy Fogarty. Is either in form or very much not in form. 9 games this season. In the most recent 4 he has kicked 12.2 and gave 4 goal assists, but in the first five he kicked 2.3 and one goal assist. Plus, you'd expect the Crows have plans for him for when boofhead retires.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
