Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Gus seems a logical choice for a trade, seeing as his brother and lots of family are in WA. I highly doubt he’ll be traded though.

He loves the club and loves living in Melbourne. He might not be lighting it up on field, but he’s filling the role the coaches are asking if him, and filling it well. His defensive positioning has been a big part of our defensive zone vastly improving this year.

He’s also super important to the club culturally. Yes he has media presence with the podcast etc, but he’s also one of the key drivers of hard work and respect amongst the players. Look at the end of the Geelong match last week as an example. When all the players were going berserk celebrating, Gus joined in celebrating for a bit and then tried to encourage his teammates to go shake the oppositions hand and show respect. He was first across to shake the oppositions hands and got the boys to follow him. He’s a leader out there for our players driving the right kind of values amongst the group. Then when they were in the rooms, he sung the song with more gusto than anyone!

Not saying Cerra wouldn’t be a great get for us, he’s a great silky skilled player, but trading Gus would disrupt the playing group, standards, and culture of the club. And at the end of the day, the new standards being driven are the difference between 2021 top of the ladder demons, and the years before where we failed to make finals. Same list, different culture and standards.

Those that want to trade Gus have no idea about what makes a collection of talented individuals a great team.

If wants to stay and play his role as well as he has this year - he will be a Demon for a while yet.

And his parents live in Melbourne and house 3 young Demons so those with words to Tyne effect he will go back for family are just spewing out words.

Relative to other starting midfielders in the afl, he doesn't win his own ball, he doesn't accumulate a truck ton of possession, he doesn't hit the score board or have elite disposal efficiency.  He's not a great mark.  He's a poor man Josh Kelly, who fwiw was tearing it up in his fourth year.

Playing full minutes, he went three consecutive games this year without laying a tackle. Can u imagine the match day threads.  Lol.

Massive overrating going on here.

So you say Cerra doesn’t tackle, can’t win the ball, can’t kick or score? Perfect fit for the old, dark navy Blues then.

No one wants to trade Gus. Nevertheless we can put up some suggestions without being shut down, right?

He is very close with Andrew at Freo and has extended family in WA. Doesn't mean he will go to WA because of that, just that it could be an influence.

I'm yet to read those shutting down this discussion put up valid hypothetical alternatives.

Having said that, we have much bigger fish to fry today

Go Dees!

On that we can all agree

You have the FREEDOM to say whatever you want on this privately owned slice of internet - and I have the same capacity to say it won’t happen and how damaging it would be.

My alternative? Don’t get Cerra. Our cap is going to bulge after this year with the kids getting more, quicker.

And I am TRIGGERED by people who think they have the freedom to say whatever they wish and others don’t have that same freedom to shoot that to pieces.

In this current climate of course.

Does anyone know if we can trade a future first round pick?

Would be very exciting to bring in Cerra but will be a tough move to make happen.

What players would even be available for trade?

We had two first round picks last year, so yes we can.

Forget about looking at big trades this season. Last week we were the second youngest team selected. Focus on locking in our young guns in 4 year contracts. Also look to improve our draft position with trade of a couple of fringe players eg Baker etc for draft order swaps and maybe find a top up player or two eg Gunston.

Totally agree - I don’t care how good Cerra is, such a trade would do a lot of harm to the team connection we so obviously have and have we worked hard to create.

whilst adding via free agency has worked for other clubs in the past , and I’m happy for us to explore this if we have salary cap space, I don’t reckon trades like brayshaw and picks for Cerra do. I also hark back to how Essendon turned a potential dynasty into one premiership when they traded out the likes of Heffernan and Caracella etc because of salary cap pressure and really ripped the fabric of the club.

Cerra should nominate us. He’d be a beauty to add to our midfield.  We are a destination club. It’s not about $$$$ in my opinion. Carl tank can offer $750000 but they are a rabble and getting blokes wanting $$$$ like Saad and Williams who are overpaid

Putting aside the fact that we probably can't do enough to appease Freo in a trade scenario, we also have to ensure that we don't push the current group to breaking point (ala Collingwood).

We have so much potential growth in this group that adding another player in that younger age range raises potential issues as well as benefits.

I'm not saying we can't pursue these kinds of players but it will require some exceptional management. Expectations around salaries will need to be tempered.

For example, can you see Clarry accepting a deal for significantly less than Trac? If not, then we are not in the discussion for players like Cerra.

Giddy up.

There's been smoke around Melbourne and Cerra now from a few different sources. I'm intrigued.

Trades have always come down to a player nominating a club of choice and negotiations starting from there. Pending our TPP it's probably a more realistic chance than we realise. Freo won't be happy because there draft bounty wouldn't be anywhere near as good as what they would get from Carlton.

And they can forgot even thinking about Jackson as part of any deal.

I think people might be underselling what we could offer trade wise.

We have a couple of 2nd rounders, if we trade Weid, that could become 3x second rounders. We'd be able to use some of those picks to package up to a side that needs points like the dogs, in exchange for their 1st rounder.

As well as our 2022 1st round pick.

It'd be convoluted but we'd figure something out without trading a player of significance out imo.

Not when someone is wanting to come home and you are the ladder leader with a list set for 5 years of premiership tilts and the best culture in the game. Does he want cash or the chance at cups?

Absolutely. Come and win 3 or 4 flags with us then top up his super at a club like, hmm, say, Hawthorn.

We've proven to be pros at edging up the draft board and I have no doubt they will be able to trade up into a workable deal if a trade for Cerra comes to fruition. I just think freo would prefer Carltons pick 6.

As far as I'm aware we have Brisbane's second pick (31-36ish) and hawthorn's 3rd pick (42ish) this year.

Our first year next year is likely to be 14-18. Not impossible to work with but without trading out a player or two it would be difficult to get into the top 10 that freo are demanding.

That's great news that we might be in the race for Cerra, but it also makes me nervous about who might be on the trading block. Jackson, Rivers, Brayshaw??? I don't want to lose any of them!

Ill be filthy if Rivers or Jackson go. I honestly can't see it considering how those two are best buds and are also super close to the other boys (Rivers has a partner in Melbourne).

Feel like this talk just to get Carlton to stump up whatever freo wants to be honest.

From the Freo site.

"Cerra made the step up and turned his potential into genuine AFL talent as he dominated a handful of games, including Fremantle’s wins against Hawthorn in round 11 and Melbourne in round 16. Playing mostly on the wing or as an inside midfielder, Cerra did things with the football that most AFL players couldn’t, with his spectacular goal against Melbourne just one example of his ability to execute by foot. He ranked second at Fremantle for tackles and at 20 years of age earned a third-place finish in the Doig Medal".

Not saying I want to recruit him but this differs from your assessment of him.

The only point I guess I want to make is that it's evident that Gus loves in the West and as he said, he has family over there, including his brothers and he was born over there. He talked about his love of the Stadium and the surface and from what he said it's only a matter of time before he returns. So if the opportunity to return there comes up in a trade for Cerra, he may put his hand up and suggest a swap.

No one loves Gus more than I do, i've always been a fan and I'd hate to see him go but it's just a matter of time by the sound of it. He loves the Dees as well, but sometimes Family can be stronger than friends at a footy club.

It would be great to get Cerra but I wouldn't sell the farm for him. Brayshaw is a must keep for mine integral part of the team IMO. Weideman is the only player on the table. Can we trade a future first rounder? Trade all our existing picks and Weideman for Cerra. If he nominates us Freo are just going to have to read it and weep.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
