Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You're the third person to pick me up on this!

I acknowledged my mistake early this morning after viewing the footage which shows that my memory of the incident is faulty.  You'll find my mea culpa way back on page 2 of this thread.

I hadn’t read the thread when I quoted, I was shocked that you said it was behind play and responded immediately

Eddie to talk about this incident on FC on ch 9 in a couple of mins

Edit. Just Ed with his arms in the air wondering why little has been done about it. Lyon says its 1 or 2 weeks, but didn't know if there was more to the reason for  Daw's reaction

Indefensible or not, it was bread and butter stuff in those AFL days. Grinter's coat hanger was de rigeuer, especially when practiced by many Hawthorn players.

But he was adamant there was nothing in Selwood or Hawkins cases. If he’s a sensationalist then he’d hype that up as well right?

I think he’s got a score to settle with the Dees board.

Poor Leigh he's bleeding.

Typical bulldust commentary. They say, Jackson started all this.

Watch the 5 minutes prior to Matthews sniping Bruns and you'll see Geelong attacking repeatedly, Jackson flying for the mark and Ayres and Langford are behind him belting the crappers out of him. The umpires did sweet F.A about it. But, Jackson started it all of course, because he finally retaliated. You ask the commentators.

It’s already the night before team selection for the final round and we’ve heard nothing official about the incident. Has this been put into the too hard basket or is it being dealt with behind closed doors?

Without a shadow of doubt there are things happening behind closed doors - this is how the MRO "system" works.

If it's true that Cox has a bruised larynx then this will and probably should get weeks. It looks like a pretty mild hit, but it's difficult to tell.

What was said or done beforehand is a separate issue.

The AFL didn't bother reviewing it themselves but let social media do it for them.

But the AFL will enforce misdemeanours with suspensions. So it is sanctioned? AFL half pregant.

Maybe any ban should be from social media.

the afl have had a few days to review this, yet have said nothing publicly

i'd expect they need to decide by cob today, cob tomorrow at the latest

apart from sen article it seems the rest of the media don't want to touch it

Surely if they act they have had to do it before now given Melbourne has to name a side tonight.  The AFL cannot assume that a  player on the list will not be selected - who knows - we might want to rest Gawn of whatever (I'm not suggesitng it, just that the AFL cannot dismiss the possibilty).  Furthermore if they banned him now, where is his right of appeal before we select a team?

So maybe they are waiting to see if he is not listed in the team or even as an emergency. Then it would be 'fair' to begin proceedings in time for next week.

No. This is an incident that happened outside an officially sanctioned game so doesn’t come under the MRO framework.

Therefore, it gets dealt with by the league’s football operations officer and his team. At the moment, Andrew Dillon is standing in on that job. I believe he has a legal background so I wouldn’t be surprised if that means there is some mediation going on in the background and a result notified soon enough.

Earlier in the week, I was thinking that the club might rest Max Gawn for the final round if the Bulldogs beat Port Adelaide (meaning that we couldn’t miss out on a top two placing). That eventuality might have allowed for Majak to be picked at least as an emergency in tonight’s squad so that he could take on the Cats.

We’ll know soon enough if that’s going to happen.

If Mason is "spirited away out of the country" there will be more questions raised than answered 🤭

But, seriously, were he charged with anything now it would be a denial of natural justice.

Unless some "secret deal" (and of course that would never happen in AFL) then MFC should names as at least an emergency and force their hand.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
