Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Also, how quiet is this teams thread?

Surely a sign that Demonalnders have breathed a sigh of relief knowing we can't slip out of the top 4?

Certainly the ‘Goodwin lost this at selection’ crowd from the last 3 years have gone quiet

turns out ANB and Spargo etc can play!

I’d go short as Adelaide’s only chance is to play a fast ground level game. Also, Weideman doesn’t need to audition for finals while every small on our list good enough does. We all know that if McDonald or Brown go down in a prelim (says 77 hail Mary’s) Weid is straight in. But what if ANB gets injured, or (says 777 Hail Mary’s) Ed Langdon?

We need to know who comes in for them.

I'm not sure that Weid has played much, and if there are any doubts about TMac, I would have thought match fitness was important?

I'd have happily accepted posts from 10 years ago stating "Out - Melbourne, In - Casey" this week, given the last couple of weeks' travel burden and potential for the pre-finals bye to be abandoned; but Goody is a man of his word when it comes to not flirting with form and picking his best 22 every week so I don't expect wholesale changes.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gives Vanders another run given Monday night wasn't ideal conditions for first game back for a long while, and will give him a second crack to prove himself. Hibbo for Hunty, that's it for me.

Could be a good week for him to get some in case he's needed for big finals ....

Thought the same, and wondered if Toby has been included to give Koz a break, after the s#!t he copped on social media after the WC game.  Goodie suggested that it cut him pretty deep.

I hope that's not the case. If he doesn't play because he's distressed, it will embolden those weak-minded trolls to go after him again.

Would like to see Weids and BBB work together in the forward area. They did alright out at Casey.

Vanders and Sparrow struggled in Perth, so both out for me.

Interchange could be:

Jackson, Jordon, Weids and either Hibbo or Smith.

Hibbo is a known quantity, so Smith  to get a run and see if he fits in, Hibbo as med sub.

Not sure there is a forward position for Bedford unless they go small and have given up on the Weid.

Hibbo before Smithy every day of the week We don't want ill discipline spoiling 5/6 other AA class defenders on the big stage.  Smithy could play forward PLEASE.

Hibberd for Hunt - don’t mess with backline cohesion.
Either of VDB or Sparrow out and Weideman in, as agree with prior comment that Fritsch better as 3rd marking target.

Re cohesion, Bowery has slotted in incredibly well, very good disposal skills and decision making, looks like a 200 game player.

Demons are lucky to have Taylor, as recruitment has been terrific the last four years for the pick #s we’ve had in the draft!!!

Looks like it's just Hibbo in for Hunt I like it would be nice if Jones could get a gig at least as a sub maybe later in the year. I think vandenBerg will be in the 22 for his 50th and Sparrow the sub.

There's not much of it left.

IMO of the interchange bench, the final four would be Jackson, Hibbo, Jordon, Weiderman. Sparrow sub.

I can picture a scenario where Weid doesn't come in, we could play a variation of Gawn/Jacko in the forward line more and make Melksham a link man. It could be a way to experiment should an in game situation arise where we lose Tommy to injury.

But personally I feel like we are a structure team, and playing Weid gives us the chance to keep that structure. Interestingly Brown's mobility (while not fast) has actually been quite good, he's been getting up the ground quite well and even taking some very valuable marks on the wing. The option could be for him to play a bit more of the TMac role and Weid be the one pushing harder towards goal.

Forecast is for a nice warm 18 day at MCG, so it would be hard to use the wet excuse on Weid this week so he's in IMV.

Then it's a choice of either Joel Smith or Hibberd for Hunt's spot. I think given it's so close to finals I'd be going the experience of Hibbo, although I get the temptation to give Smith one last shot at it.

As to who comes out for Weid, it should be Melky (even though he was terrific last week), as we already have three smalls, one medium (Fritta) and with Weid (three talls) up forward. But Melky's already in the 18, so I imagine ANB and Spargo will get a bit of time up the ground and Fritta on the wing.

That means the choice for the final bench spot is between Jordon, Sparrow and VDB - tough decision that one and whoever gets it is also the most likely omission when Viney comes back a week later.

Personally I'd go VDB, but I reckon they will go JJ. And even if they don't pick JJ, it's been a great season by the youngster.

I have to say I'm surprised. We know we want to play TMac, Brown and Jackson in the finals, but despite TMac being unavailable we're preparing for finals with a different looking forward line.

I accept Weideman may not be in form, but structurally I would have thought we want to keep rolling with the two key forwards (without wet weather anyway) for as much of the season as possible.

Of course, rewarding the players who went over to Perth and got the W last week isn't a bad outcome.

To bring Weed we would have had to drop someone from beating WC away. Melksham? I don’t think anyone deserves to be dropped. Not for Weed at least

We brought in Jordon for TMac given the wet conditions though, and the forecast I've seen for the G on Sunday is absolutely perfect. Personally, would have gone back to the 2 key forwards and brought out Jordon or Sparrow.

And like every other good sides in the past the players and teams in general are fairly inconsistent until the core group of players hit the 100+ game mark.

Many on here said you couldn’t judge Goodwin or the group until the core got to that mark (despite 2018) , the I want it now and I’ve seen it all before brigade brushed them off as accepting mediocrity, ostrich’s with their head in the sand or being apologists for Goodwin.

Who’d have thought this game would take a fair bit of getting used to

Weid would have been a nice inclusion, but I just couldn't find a spot for him.
We'd have to drop either

A mid rotation - but fatigue coming back from Perth and and a running Crows team a concern,

A pressure fwd - see above,

Melk or Fritta - both deserve their spot.

I wonder if Melk can display enough intensity this week to take Spargo's spot going fwd. Ie. match Spargo for pressure and link up but add to our fwd 50 polish.

I'm not surprised that Weid is out they went small last week and won why change it? The sub will be interesting they usually don't go with the same sub 2 weeks in a row so that rules out Vanders and Weid isn't a sub so it's out of Bedford and J.Smith my bet would be J.Smith considering they just gave him a contract.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
