Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

how does naish compare to baker statistically at afl and vfl level?

A [censored] load better.

Nah look in terms of VFL this year Baker played 7 games and averaged 18.2 disposals this year compared to Naish's 28.5

I think Patrick Naish might be a bit of watch this space. Hasn't been able to break into the Richmond line for the past couple of years even though he's dominated VFL level. In his 6 games this year at VFL level he averaged 28.5 disposals per game as an outside speedy wingman.

He was a highly rated under 18 prospect who was part of the highly AFL Academy squad. Outside wingman who's quick and has neat kicking skills

Wouldn't be surprised if the club are looking at him purely as a depth player as that outside player.

Richmond have had major injuries in each of the last 3 years and they've pretty much taken a look at Naish each time and quickly got him out of the team. Only this year when they probably knew they had to have an extended look at him did they give him 4 games in a row and he did nothing.

I'm not sure why exactly we are keeping Baker but my guess is they know he's much fitter now and his pace is still a rare attribute even if his kicking, contested work and decision making is a way off it. He has that one quality attribute and they can work on adding to the rest of his game. Plus he knows the system and can shadow Langdon all summer again.

Naish has a lovely boot but the weaknesses in his game - size, speed and more than anything his competitiveness probably just aren't going to improve. Doesn't matter how good you were as a junior and how good your VFL form is if you can't handle the step up in physical pressure at the top level.

Declase probably gets the nod as that taller more defensive winger as back up to Brayshaw and that's definitely not a role for Naish.

Mebbe another genuine back pocket?

We need Casey players.

We had a blessed run with injury this year and are cutting a lot of depth.

Jones, Jetta, Vanders, Lockhart and potentially Melksham. All of them got a bit of game time this year and were ready if needed.

I was happy that all these players were there for depth this year and likewise happy that we are moving them on now.

The weird thing is that with Brayshaw, Harmes, Jordon and Sparrow all being best 22 (or 23) we are actually light on for inside bulls at Casey!

We will also want to draft a young kpf and young ruck at some point soon.

I know things change, but I'm now even more intrigued by the Frank Valli comment mate. 😂  I assume you just like them and we were on like Donkey Kong and then something changed. Is that the gist of it?

Cerra was coming if they could get it done. There was much confidence they could. They couldn't. So he isn't.

Sertiously? Bont wouldn't help, Walsh, Dusty, Max King, De Goey, Andy Brayshaw, Luke Ryan, Whitfield, Toby Greene, etc, etc.

The list can always be improved and if we think it can't, we will go backwards.

Carlton looms as one potential candidate for Lewis Young as it searches for key position depth.

The Blues have also been linked to a possible play for West Coast's Jarrod Brander.

With Cerra and Hewitt, it looks like Carlton will get every player changing clubs in the AFL.

This is on the right track  Jt's podcast later in the year suggested quality ball users through the middle and another ruck.

Obviously. But we are not going to pick up any of those players are we? Who are we actually a realistic chance of picking up with our currently limited currency?

It will likely be delisted players, cheap fringe players or simply take our picks to the draft.

Anything else means we will have to create trade currency which means giving up something that many won't want to give up.

For me then you really have to look at what you can get for Baker. If you can get a trade for him and pick up a decent replacement for free you've improved your list. What is Baker worth?

Future third round pick at best.

More likely that there is no interest at all.

Agree.

We are really lucky to have JT and his team, because there are better players coming through, that will not necessarily be high draft picks, who will be better than many of the players currently changing clubs.

Good development and shrewd drafting are the foundation of future success and we are now good in both those areas.

Given we have a good young list, we can cherry pick a player or two and otherwise draft for the future.

That is why a Mac Andrew is less of a risk for us, than other clubs using a high draft pick, as he will not be an instant AFL player. Clubs below us want an instant return, whereas we can take some time to develop players to replenish the list as our current list is a young one that has proved itself.

The fact is the best 22 in 2021 was the premiership team and 10-12 extra for depth but you have to improve your list by going out and getting players that are not depth players but part of best 22 players each year.

There are 2 methods of doing that by improvement in the 10-12 extra depth players or going to get players in the draft.

This team has 7 player who were 21 and under as at the Grand Final so these players need to be better next year because the premiers become the hunted.

A famous athlete Carl Lewis once said 'when you are number 1 you have to train like you are number 2', so this team cannot rest on their laurels and expect the competition to allow them to do it again without a fight.

Carlton is an example of the scattergun approach to recruiting, were they recruit anyone they can without development of their skills hoping they will bolster the team.

In the context of what players appear to be available and haven't already nominated a club, not sure anyone left will add to our list. Expecting a very very quiet trade period, with players more likely to go out than come in

I'm not expecting us to bring in any experienced players this off season and will instead just focus on drafting and developing new kids. I reckon we'll only target specific mature players (Cerra for example) and if we miss out, we simply move on. Save the money for managing contractsgoing forward.

We may well try and trade up on the draft to get Mac Andrew and trade out Melksham to improve our draft hand, but that's about all I expect.

I know some others have mentioned recruiting more depth for Casey given the departures of Jones, Jetta, Vandenberg etc. However don't forget, we have the likes of Brayshaw, Harmes, Nibbler etc in our best 22 who could play more midfielde minutes should we get key injuries. Their roles could then be filled by the likes of Hunt, Laurie, Chandler, Bedford etc.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
