Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

As suggested OTC last night, unless Freo can offer a really good trade - I'd be inclined if I were the Lions to make Neale stay for at least one more year of that contract and if he wants to be traded at the end of next year then he can be without them having been blindsided.

I understand COVID has changed the parameters somewhat, but I think the whole family angle is slightly overplayed and another 12 months would be quite manageable for most families.  Though far from ideal (but what is in this world) or not really understanding the nature of the circumstances of Neale and his partner, we do live in a modern first world country where he has been handsomely remunerated for his talents, and where it is likely (but not certain) that restrictions once we reach a vaccination threshold will be relaxed.

You're on hundreds of thousands of dollars if you're Neale. Being a recent parent myself, being in lockdown the way we are, it's effectively the same thing as being interstate. It's not ideal, but it's manageable and my business is certainly not doing as well as Lachie Neale's deal would be doing for their young family.

I reckon the Lions need to stand firm...

No one is mentioning the Eagles?  Probably because they are going to the draft so not interested in another mature age player who is starting to have injuries..

Apparently, the only suitor is Freo.  How much do they want him, especially after he walked out on them?  He was their reigning 2 time b n f winner.  And at what cost?

He is hardly a good role model for a young team.  It would be difficult for him to talk of loyalty, commitment, sacrifice, comradeship, integrity etc.  All the things that bind.

Neale may have to stay at the Lions.  By the sound of it he will have bridges to mend if he does.

i've always thought damon greaves was capable of playing afl level and just got unlucky that the hawks had impey, jiath, scrimshaw, day, hardwick all at HB already, but maybe i just liked his name, his hair colour and his jumper number (44) all combo'd up, could be in the mix as a rebounding small defender around the comp as a DFA

Bit of a gamble. Not sure if he's still a gun at 33

Just a thought on a possible 3 way trade.

Melbourne send Weideman to Gold Coast.

Gold Coast send Rankine to Adelaide.

Adelaide send McAsey to Melbourne.

Gold Coast are in need of a ready made key forward, while Melbourne have surplus key forwards and Weideman is kicking up a stink at not getting a game. While Rankine has been very underwhelming given where he was selected in the draft, and many have speculated a move back to his home town in Adelaide. I think it's a win win for all clubs.

Fischer McAsey was taken #6 in the draft a couple of years ago and  has barely had a look in at Adelaide as it's already been well stated that he wants to move back to Victoria. He's a gun key defender/forward and only 20 years of age so that gives us time to let him build in the reserves while Brown and McDonald are holding down the key forward posts in the firsts.

Has he played much on the forward line?

Also, why is he not getting games at lowly Adelaide?

Interesting… not sure on McAsey as haven’t seen him play. But the GC leg of that trade would need a bit of sauce. Weed for Rankine is underwhelming for them.

He's considered more a gun defender but he can play forward. In any case, we can move Petty forward if need be.

I agree... GC would need a bit more, but on current output, Rankine has done nothing so far... he has all the talent and skill but has struggled since arriving there. I think if GC see a Weideman/King combo they would take it.

Rankine is the type of player that would thrive in a strong team as a bit/impact player.  What is required of him at GC is above his mental agility at the moment.

That would be a terrible trade. Why on earth do we want McAsey? Can't get a game at Adelaide no thanks. Weideman and all our existing draft picks for Cerra is a juicier deal. I don't want to but throw in Sparrow if that was to get us over the line.

He is 29 next month. A 4 year deal is crazy. There must have been some serious interest.
he looks the type that might slow down after 30 but who knows

Is he kicking up a stink??

If so best way forward is to hold a few marks improve your attack on the ball improve your body language and KIck some  goals

WC don’t have the draft capital and also have no cap space and will definitely lose players this trade period.

They have picks 10, 29 plus future 1st (likely to be 8 - 12 range).  However, they are opting for the draft rather than trade in players.  They need to rejuvenate their list.

My point was that Freo is the only party potentially interested.

I think Cerra would be a great get and I agree that Oliver and Petracca are critical members of our midfield.

But I don't think we're as thin as you believe.  Sure we would suffer if one of them went down but we have Brayshaw on the wing to come back into the midfield and Viney, Harmes, JJ and Sparrow who have all proven themselves capable and the latter two will only be better next year.

For example: Petracca, Brayshaw, Viney, Harmes, Sparrow in the middle and JJ to the wing is still competitive

I don't think we need to sell the farm to get Cerra which is what it may take.

Not saying that Sparrow is on par with Oliver or Petracca, but he looks as if he is well on trajectory to become a B+ or A grader in the next year or two.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. Sunny, though a touch windy, this morning, 23 of them no emergencies.  Forwards out first. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
