Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Bizarre.  Only Goodwin voted for Jackson, and how Simpson voted for Naitanui's 5 minute burst is beyond belief.  Simpson's judgement with his voting is reflective of his current coaching performance.

the most boring, vanilla coach in the comp. Makes Ross Lyon look like a hedonist.

It’s rare that you have two such completely different opinions in these coaches’ votes. Jackson, Oliver, Brown and Neal-Bullen each only rated by one coach. It is assumed by someone that Naitanui was rated by Simpson; who knows if that is correct?

Clearly Simpson is very demanding - thought that Nichols would have got one or two, but I guess he failed to deliver when it really counted.

Absolutely bizarre votes. Is Simpson OK?

Also Trac not a stand out for best on ground for mine at all. But I’m not complaining when a Melbourne player gets a perfect 10.

Nic Nac highly influential - when he went missing for the third quarter….

Not sure how people work out which coach voted for who.  Beats me...

Redden was very good but got only one vote from the coach that didn't give it to Nic Nat.  Goodwin or Simpson voted for Redden?

Can't for the life of me figure out the difference in view for the 4 vote:  Jackson and Yeo.

I thought Kelly was pretty good.

We need to get the ball to Oliver next week so he can get a big lead on Bontempelli.

How Petracca can get the full 10 votes for that game is beyond me. He made bizarre decisions repeatedly that cost us goals. He played well, but Oliver was far superior. Poor Clarry, constantly underrated when he's been at Trac's level for 5 years.

Then in the Bulldogs game you've got a guy who didn't lay a single tackle in the midfield polling 7 votes. Are you serious?

We have no way of knowing who each coach voted for AFAIK.  Maybe Goody gave NicNat the vote?

The post match pressers are usually indicative.  Simpson was very bullish about Yeo and Naitanui.  Goodwin equally effusive about Jackson.  Goodwin also made mention of our third quarter dominance which by extension means Naitanui wouldn't have been in his consideration given he got exactly zero disposals in that quarter - the match deciding quarter as it turned out to be. Redden and Kelly were the best four quarter eagles in my view.  It makes no sense that Goody would've given 4 to Jacko and 1 to Naitanui given they played on each other for a big chunk of the night.

Trac clearly bog for mine. Us supporters are used to his excellence. ANB and Harmes played much better than usual but Trac was the most dominant player on the pitch. He looked angry and tackled like a mad man.

The absolute love fest for the Bont is just annoying. Look he is a star, incredible vision, amazing ball user, beautiful to watch. But was he a 7 votes good on the weekend? Hell no. I watched the entire game and he was just OK. Did some nice things but did not go hard when the game was there to be won. He did get a nice helping hand from the umpires tho. You can already tell he’s won the Brownlow the way these umpires fawn over him like a love stuck teenager.

Oliver isn’t flashy but nobody does what he does. Nobody is even close to him in the league when it comes to getting clean ball out of contested situations with his hands. He is a miracle footballer and until the day I die I will maintain that he’s a better player than Trac (who is an A grader!)

Actually, I think Tom Mitchell and Tom Libretore are just as good at that part of the game. But Oliver has them covered for other apects.

This was my initial reaction too, but after watching the replay, I've changed my tune.

He was so influential in scoring chains. His forward handballs, in particular, were sublime. A lot of the players that had strong games (ANB, Harmes etc.) fed off of Trac's good work.

In some ways, they're incomparable. Every good team needs one of each.

When Trac is on, you could argue that he only needs half the touches of Oliver to give you the same value but neither could be the player they are without the other.

That's weird. Your post quotes a Jaded comment but attributes it to me. Puts me in illustrious company but I can't take credit for what I didn't actually say.

Are you serious Oliver is leading the coaches awards, don’t think he’s being underrated

As fantastic as Clarrie is, he’s played better games than last night

I didn't say it was a brilliant game for him, I just said that I thought he was comfortably better than Trac. Most of Trac's touches seemed to be handball receives from Clarry anyway.

As for my point about Oliver being underrated, it's in reference to Trac and Bont mostly. Not only has Clarry done it longer than either of them (Bont used to have flashes of brilliance rather than more consistent elite performances), but Oliver rarely gets the fanfare of either aforementioned player because he's not as overtly offensive.

Oliver has put together an incredible season. Probably his best, but it's not that far in front of some of his other seasons. James Brayshaw tends to give him a wrap, but it's very rare commentators notice or draw attention to Oliver's brilliance. Whereas they fawn over Trac. I reckon it's unfair, but anyway. It is what it is.

CDP this is line with my thoughts:

Oliver did some amazing work under a hard tag and I thought he often got the ball out in some super improbable situations, but it didn't often start anything or go anywhere. They were mostly contested possessions in close, which probably helped us retain or break even in close. He also didn't really get loose to be damaging by foot like he has at his best this year (although he did in the last play with an exceptional kick to Spargo that may have iced the game for us).

Petracca I thought created more space and opportunities around him, and his goal (one of only 10) was particularly good. He also got a bit more outside ball, allowing him space to deliver it.

Both are listed as having had 0 turnovers, whatever that means.

Agree completely on Oliver being severely underrated - both by opposition fans and commentators. Trac is a sensational player and gets deserved recognition as such but Oliver doesn't get the plaudits he deserves.

I think this year commentators have finally caught on to him, but some of them suggest that this has been some kind of breakout season or that he has gone to new levels. The bloke has been performing at an exceptionally high level for years. I can't remember exactly who it was but a Melbourne player was asked about Oliver's incredible year earlier this season and he just laughed and said something like "Clarrie has been doing it for years".

Not only is he brilliant at his craft but he has an incredible will to win. How often does he have a huge last quarter in a close game to try to drag us over the line, winning some critical contests along the way. He did it last night with that centre clearance with about 1:20 left and the Eagles throwing everything at us.

28 possessions last night while copping an extremely tight tag for 4 quarters from a seasoned tagger.

He is a truly phenomenal footballer.

Fair enough l agree that he’s underrated compared to Bont & Trac, but obviously not by the coaches votes

l think Oliver is a brilliant footballer, probably in the top 3 Demons players in my 40 years

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
