Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Six weeks is a slap on the wrist. This is disgraceful. There is talk of self reporting   , however that is hollow as Tex said it without a thought and this is the problem.

If the official doesn’t say anything …Tex goes about his business and the attitudes to race remain unchallenged.

The AFL must increase the penalty. I don’t think 22 weeks is unreasonable.

What did Tex say?

Thanks. An interesting take on the term. Most things are a statement of mind issue.

Unfortunately I suspect the small, vocal minority might be a bit larger than we think.

Many might not speak out but it's the underlying thoughts that bother me, Tex just spoke to probably what was always on his mind.

There will always be a minority that does the wrong thing.  Just because we outlaw domestic violence & tell everyone to stop doing it doesn't mean it will go away completely.

I find it encouraging that the vast majority of posters on this site and people in general have called out Walker's comment for the vile racism that it demonstrates.

Notwithstanding a minority of Neanderthal outliers, it seems that the message is finally getting through.

It's not that long ago that people making a stand against such behaviour would be labelled "woke" or "virtue signalling", as if caring about others and supporting social justice were bad things deserving of ridicule and criticism.

What a weird comment.

Alt-right is a phrase made up by neo-nazis to describe themselves.

There is no such thing as "Alt-left", it's a phrase made up by centre right "alt right" sympathisers as a way of trying to shift the Overton window further right by claiming extremists on the left are of equal threat as those in the right. They aren't, as demonstrated by the fact that no security or intelligence agency are worried about them.

But that isn't relevant here. What is relevant is that when young people rag on baby boomers, they aren't ragging on an age group, they are ragging on people who emulate and embody a particular state of mind. Regardless of who wrote that article, it served as a reference for this particular point.

Ok so if no one mentioned ageism, why did you take offence at linking racism to boomers?

If you are concerned that OP was saying "all people of a certain age are racist" then there it is.

If you don't think OP was relating it to age, what was your problem with their statement?

a boomer is not an ageist thing..... it's a stupid arbitrary so-called "generation" label.

i've been a boomer all my life even when i was a toddler so i fail to see being a boomer, in itself, as ageist

and.....i explained why i took offence, just that you seem blinded or just stubborn

p.s. whilst i saw it as unnecessary and offensive i wasn't about to lose any sleep over it

Eddie Betts in the W.A Today

“As AFL players, we are educated on this every single year. Every single year, we go through racial vilification awareness. So every single player knows it. Every single person that gets drafted knows it.”

This is what I don’t understand about Walker’s comments. He has been privileged enough to have more information about indigenous disadvantage than probably 98% of the population. He has played with and against and, no doubt, been friends with many indigenous players since being crafted as a 17 yo.
He has been lucky to play alongside (literally) one of the great players and roles models in Eddie Betts.

How Taylor can still hold these racist views is astounding

'Durrie', if only it was a case of 'Boomers', then when we die out it there would be no more racism and the world would be a better place. I know people of all generational segments with less than optimal views on race...

Unfortunately as Tex just proved, it's not only the problem of one generation.

The bigger problem is the attitudes passed down through generations, from family to family...this cycle is very hard to break.

Anyway, as you say...enough of Tex and onward to Monday night and beyond.

I'm surprised that you are surprised.

For many people, no amount of training or education on the effects of racist comments would ever change their opinions.

Life experiences always last longer than a training program.

Eddie Betts = all class.
I love how he weighed in on this issue by a simple yet powerful message written in texta on his wrist tape. “No room for racism”

He’s Class personified.

If this is the case though, what I said should have put it at ease.

It isn't about the age group (or generation if i want to be semantic). Boomer has become synonymous for a state of mind, regardless of age/generation.

If it does apply to you because that isn't how you behave, then there was nothing to be offended about. But if you keep insisting you were offended maybe the label sticks?

really deanox, this convo has gone on long enough.

as i said before i'm not losing sleep over it. i'm pretty thick skinned and i didn't think the op was personally targeting me.

i just felt obliged enough to pull up the original op  for stereotyping a group unfairly with racism

can we leave it at that?

Well there is quiet a difference between those calling for an appropriate penalty for his comments and the lynch mob calling for blood and wanting to destroy Walker. There are plenty of the latter on Demonland.

Whoa there. "Baby boomer majority populous"? Does that actually mean something? Aren't you guilty of making the sort of gross generalisations that create bias and prejudice? If you're suggesting that 'Baby Boomers' are racist, uneducated and afraid of change, you're showing a clear predilection for swallowing populist propaganda. We 'Boomers' might be a lot of things,  but to suggest that we are a racist majority is truly offensive and plain ignorant. I'm getting a bit tired of this inane commentary on a generation that took the opportunities available to them and made something of themselves without waiting for someone else to give it to them.

I guess no amount of training, education, indoctrination or whatever term one uses, can necessarily alter ingrained thoughts … but at very least it should make it very clear not to express them outside of their own mind (or even clique).   There still is, after all, freedom of thought.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
