Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jack's given him a buzz to apologize, so hopefully that helps...

At least Jack recognises he was out of line.

Did he apologise before or after the MRO charge?

If before, all kudos to Jack and it will surely help his cause.

If after, too little too late, it smacks of insincerity and a ploy for the Tribunal hearing.  That may not go down so well.

I think he is in for a holiday of course if he was buddy there would not even be a case to answer.  I think the only thing to be decided is the length of suspension.

Don't know when, but a bit out of line to suggest it "smacks of insincerity" without being privy to the conversation.

I’d love to know what Jack was saying to Collins during the incident. Maybe propounding the benefits of acupressure therapy??

Not great by Jack.

But its not just the media jumping on jack, even dees fans seem to be coming for him.

I wonder if that is because so many fans seem ambivalent about him and/or that he is perhaps not the easiest bloke to warm to.

I reckon if it was Oliver in the gun he'd be facing fewer hanging judges.

You might be right.
He has always been someone that I found hard to warm to. He has not been a team player from the outside and there’s a reason he lost the captaincy. He’s also in bad form.
Having said that I’m not here to hang him. I think what he did was terrible stupid unnecessary and very dangerous. But overall Jack is a fair player. He plays hard and tough and takes as good as he gives.
I’ve been critical of Kosi and Spargo staging for frees and I love them both. I also think Oliver was a bit of a sook last year with the umpires and I’m glad he stopped doing that although he does get held more than anyone I know for no frees.
None of our players are beyond fault. Viney doesn’t have form like Selwood for example, but it doesn’t make what he did any better. It was a fairly extended brain fade rather than a split second decision made in play and that will unfortunately cost him.

I recall it was because Maloney chose to bump, and while taking evasive action to avoid being bumped, he hit his head on the ground and was knocked out, which they claimed was therefore Maloney's fault.

Expect better from a Vice Captain but if any player found themselves facing suspension for something completely unnecessary late in the 4th quarter in a game that was over at half time I would still be annoyed.

With Jack, I'm not calling for his blood but he's out of form and I want him to play himself into form, missing game/s won't help

I don't recall that Moloney incident, anyone got any footage?

As for Viney, it all comes down to what Sam Collins has to say. It looked bad, but judging by his reactions, I'm not sure there was much pressure on there at all. Silly either way from Viney to put himself in trouble,

There's no doubt the defence will point to the fact that Collins pulled Viney down by the jumper and held him down. Viney's arm placement was neither deliberate or intentional. When Collins tried to get up he rolled over and dragged Viney's jumper with him.

I do love the fact Viney got up and flipped Collins over with one arm.

Case dismissed

I don't condone the act at all. It was a terrible look

But objectively the precedent has been well and truly set - the penalty for infringements is almost always related to how badly, or not as the case may be, the player that has been hit, punched, etc is actually hurt.

For example, even though it was only deemed careless, Fritter was very lucky to escape with only a week after clocking North Melbourne’s Tom Powell with his elbow (and luckier still to have that week overturned).

The reason he only got one week was that it was assessed as medium impact, presumably because Powell did not require a concussion test and came back on (which was amazing, coz he looked understandably rattled by the hit).  If he is concussed Powell, Fritter probably gets 3 weeks

I think it is stupid, but the fact remains that potential to cause serious injury does not seem to be factored into how many weeks, if any, a player cops when found guilty of incident.

So as you say feedback from Sam Collins is relevant. But perhaps even more relevant is the medical report.

Did Jack actually cause any injury? Was Collins hampered afterwards? Did he even need to come from the ground?

I'm not sure what the answer to those questions are, but lets say it is no to all three.  If so, surely he cops a fine, not a suspension.

That said Judd was charged with misconduct for his chicken wing tackle on Leigh Adams and copped four weeks. So there is some precedent there - but Judd partially dislocated Adam's shoulder.

If the AFL can't suspend it's love child in Buddy for a vicious throwing of the elbow, how can they possible suspend Jack?

Their will be nothing to report from a medical report stand point so what are they charging him with?

No striking motion, No injury to the GC player, was able to play on, didn't leave the field.

A $1500 fine and we move on.

He's by far out toughest player with AVB, Harmes and maybe May a bit further back.

He's definitely out of form, body doesn't look right. Looks perhaps a bit top heavy and legs aren't conditioned perhaps. But he still gives so much aggression and hard work inside especially defensively.

I feel like he and Harmes are asked to play on the edge through the middle of the ground. Be intimidating and hurt when you tackle.

It doesn't surprise me that this happens when a player is playing on the edge like he is that you cross the line every now and then. Not a good look but slow mid week news will go nuts with it as per usual. All the best players have their ugly moments (e.g. Judd).

I worry a bit about Jack though. At times doesn't look too happy. His body language isn't great. I hope its more frustration with his body as apposed to anything else within the team and role etc. He forced quite a bit on the weekend and looked agitated so again this doesn't surprise me.

Can we change the name of the thread from 'Jack Viney Charged...' to 'Jack Viney Cited' or 'Jack Viney Reported'?
The use of language plus the trailing periods meant that I opened this thread expecting a picture of him in a divvy van and a scandal of Caresyesque proportions.

Viney has his legs taken from under him (no free) As he’s getting up he tackles Sam Collins low and cops one across the head (no free - but fair enough)
He then pins Collins to the ground with what appears to be a forearm and elbow on the neck, however from the later angle as Collins rolls towards the camera and jumps up it shows it’s actually his chest rather than neck. Collins jumps up with no problem and Umpire McLaren who was standing watching the whole incident walks away. Worth a fine, but history says he will be penalised for wearing red’n’blue.

The actual incident is not that bad, until right at the end.... he puts his whole body weight on Collins and basically slides his elbow off his neck over the side of his face,

It is a move used in the UFC to try and open people up with the use of elbows.

You can't exactly use precedents of Buddy or Selwood for this case as it is actually quite different to any of the cases they got off.

He will get whacked for 2 weeks and get off with 1.

I don't think any of us want to see these type actions as part of our game......We accept actions like this and the all of a sudden you have juniors doing the same stuff.   It is footy not UFC!!

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
