Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

When I saw the vids of Luke before the draft you could tell he was an exceptional athlete and would be a very good player, having watched the footage of Mac Andrew he's not within a bulls roar of Luke at the same time of their development.

I can't see the comparison between them particularly the skill level and football nous. I'd hope we could pick him up but wouldn't lose any sleep if we don't. He would spend 3 to 4 years at Casey before he would be ready in my opinion.

If you were to pick 2 clubs we would want him to go to it would be the Giants and Freo. Suns as well. Let them develop him for a couple of years before he comes home to us.

honestly if i was to pick two clubs it'd be the tiges and dockers, the giants have 3 rucks in flynn, preuss and briggs they have hogan, himmelberg and riccardi + lobb is every chance to request a trade back next year too, doesn't really do much in the needs category for them LT or ST, the tigers on the other hand have a 33yo JR8 and Lynch and then a massive gap before Samson and Colina with only soldo backing up nank

In response to Mac Andrew questions, draft guru 'Knightmare' wrote on bf:

"He gets completely bullied at ruck contests physically. Put a body in his way and stop him from running and jumping at the ball and he's unable to impact the contest. So he's very much a long term project".

"Some may be viewing Andrew as having key position scope. And maybe he could develop as a key defender. But with the way he leaps and so perfectly places his ruck taps for his teammates, I'm still at least projecting him in the long term as best suited to playing through the ruck".

He seems some way from the crash and bash of ruck work so it is no place for him for quite a few years.  Elsewhere, I've read his one on one work isn't great; not surprisingly given his slight build.  These skills can be developed but in the short term he wouldn't fare well as a KPF or a KPD.

Jackson took English to the cleaners in the GF.  I mention English as he seems to not like the physicality of ruck work.  Imagine what Jackson will do Andrew in the ruck if he plays there in the next few years.

I'm thinking that even if we were allowed to match a bid for him in the top 20 we would probably pass.

If Mac Andrew is selected as a high draft pick the expectation on him will be enormous and could have mental repercussions down the track.

I believe for his own good he should be in the 20-40 range were players like Max Gawn were picked and allowed to mature and developed without pressure.

Jackson's are rare and we should enjoy the ride, Luke Jackson is the first true ruckman to win the award and the only player to come close was Adam Goodes.

Can’t believe gws will use pick 2 on him, talk about a bolter. Going to need to be the next Nic Nat. Have to wonder even if we could match a bid if we would at that cost.

The issue with GWS or GCS being interested with top 10 picks is that they have so many of them year in and year out, they can afford to 'throw money' at whoever they want with little regard to value.   This is especially true of GCS.

especially true for gw$ this year who have a 'free hit' as their pick 2 (which will become pick 4) is a 'free hit' thanks to the filth passing it on to them

They'll probably trade #2 down the order a bit.  But they seem to have free hits in the first round most years when really good players leave eg they got a bunch of them last year when Cameron left.

This kid looks like an amazing talent. Look how clean he is, how well he reads the play, his foot and hand skills look very smooth, excellent composure. Huge amount of talent to work with. Slightly built and gets pushed around, as do a lot of junior rucks, will spend a couple of years putting on muscle.

Of course, its based upon potential, as are all of the covid affected crop this year, but put him in a club that can develop him and watch out!

Would love MA to be working with Max and Dogga, but can't see it happening unfortunately

IMO he's likely to go 5-10

Sounds like he’s going top, possibly even bolting to 4-5!

I’m not professional recruiter and haven’t had a chance to watch live underage fans the past two seasons due to Covid. Based on highlights packages and write ups only, he shouldn’t be taken in the top 20 IMO. He’s too raw, and has been shown to struggle in key position posts. If he’s drafted, it’ll be years before his body is AFL ready. He’s nearly 20kgs underweight at this stage of his development and was soundly beaten by many other rucks this year at underage level. Whoever drafts him will need to be very patient. He’s no Dogga Jackson, not even close.

Well said Lord. Agree Dogga is a rare athlete and hard to put pressure on young Mac Andrew to try to copy him. Mac is very light and raw talent.

Mac Andrew is definitely worth getting into your footy club but hard to justify top 4-5 pick on a youngster who needs development and the pressure of a top pick.

Would love to see the young man stay in Melbourne and at MFC and have plenty of time to develop over min 3 years imv.

Another thing with dogga is people underestimate how much basketball translates to football. Being such a high regarded basketballer you can see how well its helped him develop. i dont see andrews coming close to jackson

All the anti-Mac propaganda in the world won't see him slide to the second round I'm afraid!

It would be interesting tho, to see if we would have matched if he was taken pick 2, if we were allowed to.

That is indeed the question:  where do the Dees rank him?  Given the 20% discount, any top 10 pick might have been beyond our expectation.  I imagine top 5 would definitely be overs.  We may not have matched and moved on to our true targets.

I still have MFC's I think he's being overrated due to the fact Melbourne should have him and the media can't have that. If he's top 10 it must be a poor draft.

How good is is that the club kept encouraging him and giving him programs to work on even tho we knew he would be out of reach.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
