Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There may be a plan to free up Salem or one of the other backs on the wing or some other position. Bowey reads the play and disposes at a high level.  A little like a taller and younger Caleb Daniel in that respect.
He may debut as sub? Maybe we will go with 2 tall forwards? Maybe an unexpected player being managed this week?

We will know soon enough.

Bowey for Rivers is not very like for like, as Rivers does play a shut down role.

Bowey would be playing a similar role to either Salem or Hunt.

So either Salem needs a rest, or they've had enough of Hunt's turnovers?

Hunt seems to be tracking quite well post the bye.  But then again the FD might not be happy with some of Hunt's turnovers of late or his tackle count which has dropped away quiet substantially.  Rivers is a bit of a mixed bag but i feel he is still holding his form reasonably well and also an unlikely out for Bowey.  But of course who knows, from the outer anything's possible and could be proven wrong.

On the other hand both Salem and Hibb are a fair way of their pre bye form.  Especially Hibb IMV given his average time on the ground is up 8% post the break, which is substantial, but his numbers are mostly way off other than tackles!  Turnovers up 20% also.

Is Hibb a likely surprise 'Out' for Bowey!??

It is grating on the psych, but I think it is time to 'manage' Hibberd prior to the finals appearances.

But that would make him 136cm, or a bit under four foot six in the old money.

That's much too short to be an AFL player, no matter how good he might be.

He looks a fair bit better an athlete than Daniel, for what it's worth. Quicker with a bigger leap - 7cm taller than Daniel, too.

I thought I read today that Weid was picked for the VFL and Jones would come back via the VFL. Melksham, VanDen Burg and Bowey were in contention. Suggests three changes.

Bit of travelling to manage over the next 2 weeks with make quick trip to Qld and then straight to W.A. Rules are teams need to quarantine for the week before the game. Magpies have been in Perth all week as have the umpires. So we may flight out Saturday morning return that night to Melbourne to board a plane for Perth. Shades of a trip to Cairns last season

Holding steady post the bye apart from a quiet one last week PF.  I reckon he might have a credit or two up his sleeve.  He has also improved (in some cases only marginally though and possibly off a low base) in a number of areas generally post the bye, which is more than can be said for many of his team mates.

The other huge worry for mine is Lingers.  And i'm not saying he'll be replaced but his contested possession count is up nearly 50% and his uncontested down 25% (18 per match to 13) post the bye (or is that post concussion?).  He's also taken Zero marks inside 50 since the bye, whereas he was taking nearly 1 per match (0.8) prior.  Scored no goals since the bye vs about 1 per game prior.  His tackle count is also down 73% (from 2.3 to 0.6) as well as 1%ers down 40%, meaning a whole lot less pressure on opponents.

He was a major key to our fortunes pre the bye/concussion but a shell of his former self since then.

Not to sure if we have a ground to play on at moment so no need to do changes. Heard on news up here that you poor Mexicans ( I was once one) are still banned. Got no idea what is going on but in any case if we get to play somewhere I just hope we get a decent team on the ground that can actually pass to a team mate. Be great to see.

i like the look of Bowey. Still a little hesitant in his decision making but that will come with age and experience.  Kicking is on point. Unfair to compare him to Caleb Daniel though who is the best field kick in the league.

Jordan and Rivers are young, and can recover quickly from bursts that can be expected to be required against the GC, whereas HIbberd - essential to the finals campaign - has played hard all year and one could expect that it is time for a restive 'management' to take place.

I agree with the personnel points you've mentioned but I'm interested in the Bevo tactical point.

Out of interest, what do you (or King) think Bevo did on Saturday night that was tactically sound?

On the leap of faith point, one key difference between us and the Dogs is that the Dogs have had injuries which has forced them to try different players. We haven't, so Goodwin has had the ability to keep picking the same 25-odd players. Whilst I have all season considered there to be merit to backing the same guys in who have taken us to wins vs the best sides, there is now more than enough evidence of poor form from those you've mentioned to mean it's time to start dropping players.

King spoke about the way Bont and Macrae were utelised at stoppage at different times of the game which I reckon confused our mids.

Outside of centre bounce, they both positioned themselves sometimes where a half forward or wing would be set up which in my opinion made it confusing for our mids and we were reactive through that part of the ground. Max Gawn especially. His hitouts were all over the place. Go and have a listen to the boys on the deebrief podcast talk about Gawn's tap work, one of them nailed it.

The doggies basically got maximum use out of their extra numbers through the midfield and they were cleaner and more effective around the ground in general. Especially upon exit. 6 goals from stoppage is huge.

We weren't that far off but something we'll need to rectify next time. We always allow an outnumber at the contest so that we can free up Lever in our D 50 but we've got to get a lot better at clearance going forward.

Obviously the other big question mark is accuracy on goal and our forward entry. Finals is always about small margins and if we can't maximise more entries than we have been, we're going to struggle winning. I think our line up needs tinkering before finals and we need more reliable users of the ball. Bowey/Melksham need a gig in my view.

As far as the doggies injuries forcing their changes, I'd argue that it's not the main reason. The dogs have continued to tinker with their side for the entire year even after winning and without suffering an injury.

It's getting late in the year for us to do too much, but I'd rather see some shuffling now whilst we're still showing the same signs with the same team. I think a Bowey debut is on the cards this week.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
