Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The problem for me here is the lack of a forward running towards the ball carrier

Yes, Viney can improve, but FFS 3 of 3 forward targets stationary calling for a bomb over the top! Lead at the [censored] ball!!

Fritsch was calling for in the first frame but as usual Viney has no peripheral vision.

Fritsch would be lucky to be 40m away. Viney could have kicked to his advantage had he seen him. As it is he chose the worst option.

It is a big problem that must be addressed

no good being rewarded for tackling if he just turns over the ball

If we had that Stance we wouldn't have a midfield, Oliver, brayshaw, Langdon are terrible kicks, Petracca is hot and cold.  That is the issue we have an entire midfield group that struggle to hit target by foot.

Clearly more than 40m.

Here's a 50m line on both pics, allowing for the slight change of perspective.

The kick was a miscommunication between him and Jackson. Jackson needed to double back towards the ball and Viney thought he was …. but he didn’t so the kick looked silly even though the idea was right.

The movement was very poor from the forwards, with all three running back towards goal and none come forwards to separate the defenders. The only option Viney had inside 50 was a bomb to the top of the square to what would have been a pack situation. It was terrible forward play.

JV is the worst of the lot. Whether it is because of his foot problems i am not sure, but he has no power in his kick

Imagine being a forward knowing the bloke kicking to you has next to no chance of hitting you on a lead, if he is aiming for you

I suspect i was looking at Spargo? Thought it was Fritsch. Either way it was a terrible fwd entry AND from a captain.

Well we don't actually know what the other three forwards were doing because they're off screen.

I certainly didn't mean to slot Viney entirely so my post was poorly worded in that regard, but Viney could have kept running if there was nothing on. I don't know why he chose to kick it at that point.

4 hours ago, Lord Nev said:

Look, I agree with the premise, especially about our delivery forward, but you're expecting a 60-70m kick here to get to one of them.

Keep running, I say.

Maybe, as has been suggested, he sees something off-screen that indicates a lead but the sync between him and that person (Jackson, maybe), is out of touch.

He had more time and space to work with, is my main point.

I get the impression by the way he moves and kicks the ball is like he has no toes. His foot injuries have impacted his game for a long time. Still he could have better impact if he made better decisions because he can get a lot of ball in tough situations..

It seems to me that we want Viney majority midfield in finals, so we're essentially rehearsing continuity and connection now.

Problem is I think Jack will be much more effective used in bursts through the midfield, but majority forward, like he was earlier in the season.

It's a bad move, but I reckon the FD are showing their hand on the set up we want for finals.

IMV, Jack should be forward, Petracca should be more middle, Gus should be on the defensive wing and JJ used as the defensive mid.

I actually thought people watched a different game when I came on here post match. He was not the reason we lost. Thought he was our best in the first half and kept fighting all night.

I don't know what people are expecting. People asked for him to lift after the GWS game where he legitimately looked out of touch and then he is in the thick of the action all game and probably more detractors are on his back.

The bottom line is with in our midfield group we dont have anyone that can kick the ball and hit a target consistently.  We jump all over our forward line but the delivery in there isn't good

I played with a similar bloke who used to get it enough but was the worst kick in the side. I used to lead and the ball would land everywhere but to me. So frustrating, in the end I stopped leading when he had it. One day I wasnt even in the scene of play and yet his kick was so bad it ended up with me on an accute angle about 50 out on the boundary. Of course I converted coz I was a magnificent kick. He jogged over to me with a big grin on his face, You know what this bloke said? Great pass eh, spotted you out the corner if my eye and knew you were the best option to kick the goal.

Yeah right

Yeah right

Imagine being Ben Brown a leading key forward looks up to see Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Langdon, Harmes, AVB, ANB and Petracca kicking the ball to him, you have no idea where that ball will go.

The only Time you lead with confidence is if Salam or Spargo are kicking the footy to you

Yeah 100%, no argument there. We seem to want to get it deep forward in one go rather than think through it. In this scenario, it looks like maybe going short to Brayshaw would have been a good option. Pretty disappointing.

Was going to a post the same thing about Montagna who I rate as an analyst.

Montagna thought Viney was outstanding and made a point that once a player reaches his fourth game on return from long term injury, they get back to their normal output.

Viney was far from perfect on Saturday night but it was certainly a step up from the last 3 weeks.

Tend to agree with this.

Given our start, and our draw, anything except a top 2 and at LEAST a prelim will be a failure in my view.

Next year's draw for us will be harder so we won't be afforded the same start.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
