Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The trade Jack Viney thread

The anti-Jackers tend to see what he doesn't do rather that what we does do. he is unconditional, that's a trait I would have in my team every week rather than some that pick and choose. He has his limitations and they can be frustrating but he will keep getting better.

Trade Brayshaw, I swear he has regressed as a footballer and is nothing but run of the mill. Can't have AVB either, he is tough but slow.

I personally think he is too slow to be a defensive forward. He also has a bad turning circle so I think he would get caught a lot himself. I actually think he is carrying too much weight. I'd like to see him 5kg less which is noticeable for someone his size but he needs to cover the field better.

And I agree with previous posters, he is killing us with turnovers at the moment. And has for some time and I have 0 faith in match committee that they will ever drop him.

There might actually be something to that. Seems to be carrying extra in the rump.

He had 14 contested possessions (31 possessions in total) and 11 tackles. Go back and hide under your rock mate.

He is a real talent with these contested possessions and general possessions, his tackling is reliably good, too. He just makes poor decisions as a team member in the disposal of the ball, is slow to maintain the pace of set plays that are underway for our team, and grandstands a few times in possession that leads to being nabbed, caught with the ball and often, a well-drilled play is ended rather unceremoniously. Selfish?

I think we should trade Viney for Newton Picket will be wanting that.

The same supporters that are positive now are the same supporters that would say 'overall the season was a big success' if we come 5th and lose the elimination final.

Viney is a finals player but he is also reckless. He gives a lot of frees away too. His turnovers have been touched on but i'd prefer 15 touches and 0 turnovers than 30 touches but 8 or 9 score involvements for the other team.

Our midfield functions better, and we play better, seemingly when Viney's role is more of a mid/forward as opposed to a pure inside mid. We didn't seem to mix up our centre bounce group enough last night, didn't look like Pickett was in any of the bounces?

Here's Viney's heat map from the game last night:

Conversely, here's his heat map from when we beat Geelong early in the year:

I am now thinking that it was a 'cunning plan' by the cats NOT to entice Jack to Geelong.

His delivery is so poor he could get a job in Vaccine Rollout.

But 100% for courage and the ability to win the ball.

We are on top of the ladder and some on here want to trade our 3rd best mid with 2 months of footy left.

It’s pathetic and moot and are you on the teams side here?

We are a chance for a deep run into finals and some of you are already in trade week. That’s MFCSS Dark.

Anyone who pulls on the jumper should be unconditional and if they are not and still getting games, therin is the problem

If Jack cannot improve his kicking he certainly cannot stay in the middle.

It is a big problem that must be addressed

no good being rewarded for tackling if he just turns over the ball

This is definitely a project for Mark "Choco" Williams to teach Jack Viney how to kick properly.

My view is if you can't kick it then you handball it to someone who can like Christian Salem.

I also feel Jack plays better in a negating role as a tagger. Let him tackle and harass the top inside midfielder of the opposing team each week.

Jack Viney's heart and soul bleeds red and blue but I hope that he realises his weaknesses and focuses on improving them so he doesn't butcher the ball so much.

Viney is a one dimensional footballer, is slow, cannot kick over a jam tin and does not have a natural football brain but yeah lets pick him cause he's a rugby player just a tackle machine that will win us flags, would rather develop Sparrow anytime.

Second quarter, 7.30 in. We're 26 points up having just kicked a goal. We win the centre clearance, Oliver kicks to Viney inside the centre square and he takes a mark.

He plays on as he has space in front of him:

There are two players deeper than Fritsch, who you can see gesturing for the ball to his advantage.

He can take at least a few more steps but chooses to kick at this point, ostensibly to the deeper players, but his kick lands nowhere near a leading Melbourne forward and ultimately right in a hole covered by three Hawthorn defenders:

This is the sort of thing we see all too often from Viney, with no real improvement in this area of his game.

If that kick is the limit of his distance, why didn't he take a few more steps? He could have drawn vandenBerg's opponent and had the handball out laterally.

Great facts here

Poor anaylsis though

The problem for me here is the lack of a forward running towards the ball carrier

Yes, Viney can improve, but FFS 3 of 3 forward targets stationary calling for a bomb over the top! Lead at the [censored] ball!!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
