Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Watched the replay, Petty didn't 'flumped' on the ball. The Hawks player jumped on Petty then dragged it into Petty and held it in there.

The dumbass umpire got sucked in by it.

Petty was just about BOG and took several crucial marks while Lever and May were both ordinary.

That is correct, that is what happened and certainly, it gave the umpire an opportunity to assist the Hawks at a critical moment, so he did by appearing 'convinced' Petty drew the ball into himself. Petty had already played his smarts, pushing the ball away from his prone body when some tasteless ape jumped on him like a long-long lover, grabbed it and drew it into Petty's body.

We're almost certainly not playing this game in Darwin so any proposed changes based on the venue of the match are misguided IMO.

There's also no guarantee we play GC at all next week.

Meanwhile the pressure acts stat is revealing again.

The top three on the ground were Hawthorn midfielders: Mitchell, Shiels and O'Meara.

Our best: Viney 31, Petracca 30, ANB 27, Oliver 25 and Jordon 21.

Forwards: ANB 27, Pickett 16, Brown 13, Fritsch 11, TMac 9, Jackson 8, Spargo 6.

I'm confident the FD will keep giving ANB games when he rates highly in this stat. It's what he's in the team for.

I'm also confident that Spargo's number is lower than the FD want. If we're going to play a forward who is a nice kick inside 50 but doesn't tackle (two tackles, none inside 50) and only gets 11 touches, I wonder whether Melksham can do a better job of that role?

Spargo has been one of our  top pressure contributors throughout the season and also one of our top score involvements. Seemed to do a lot of connections last night too.

To clarify - Not meaning centre bounces, more meaning mid/forward. If you look at Gus and Jordon's heat maps it makes it pretty clear. Interestingly I noticed Goody switched it up and had Jordon at a few bounces late in the game. Still not sure why Pickett wasn't played through there like usual though.

Personally I think Gus played better on the wing.

I know what you meant Nev it’s all good. I looked at the heat maps and am not disputing any of that but I am wondering if a different look at the centre bounces could be worth it. Viney is not just slow with leg speed but reaction time, there’s a number of hard balls he’s not getting to at bounces and when he does he’s got no time on the ball and scruffs his kicks. Gotta be thinking a step ahead.

Yeah I prefer Viney playing the mid/forward role like he did at the start of the year. He played better, the midfield worked better, just made sense. For mine, when we have Gawn, Viney, Petracca and Oliver as our centre group we're very predictable, that's why I like us giving Pickett a run through there, Jackson rucking, even throw it around with Sparrow, Jordon, ANB etc.

ANB has played 98 senior games of footy.  Just wow!

And Viney is very limited.  He's ordinary.

Langdon has gone a bit off in recent weeks with his hospital handballs.  But I'm not saying drop him.

Ahh look, frustrating as.  But lets be positive.  We're on top still.  'Should' make the finals  As we are Melbourne though it will likely be in position 5-8.  We haven't absolutely embarrassed ourselves just yet.  So I'm predicting that to come.  But if you ever thought we were gonna waltz through and lose  2/3 games and win the flag you are deluded.  We have to be consistent, accurate and have a lot of luck with injuries.  blah blah blah.....

It's a tough competition and no team is perfect.

Plus the umps were [censored] last night.   really really atrocious I thought.

Max's 50m penalty just ridiculous and an embarrassment for the rule makers. Imagine that decision in a grand final, after all the investment, all the development.  It's just a frightening position to put umpires in.

Just in case anyone isn't aware, we cannot miss finals from here. We're 5.5 games clear of 9th with 5 games to go.

Relax, Demonlanders. We have qualified for the finals.

Vanderberg out only to play again if we get smashed by injuries, same bracket as Jetta both cooked in my opinion, Melksham in.

WTF?

Always good to have scapegoat I guess but Aaron shouldn't be your guy. He was excellent in the first half. His ball use was great. Linked up well. The fact that he even played in the second half after getting smashed by McEvoy was a credit to him.

If you want to identify reasons we lost.

Here are five:

Our key target TMac couldn't get a touch.

Our best inside 50 guy Petracca went at 55 percent disposal efficiency.

Our two other main midfielders Oliver and Viney turned it over 18 times!

We can't kick a set shot.

Jackson had four effective disposals for the day.

This team had a bye (rest) just a few weeks ago

i have advocatedresting some each week especially the younger bodies, but now, close to the business end when the team should be gelling and learning how to play with each other instinctively, is not the time.

Jackson played and plays at peak capacity every game, he is young,  he had less influence this week as if tired but just needs to keep playing. He is a genuine star in the making and the future of our ten year dominance.

Trac and Oliver are also elite and will be a key part of the next dynasty.

You can see a definite core of each age, role and experience demographicto provide for a ten year program. What is still needed is the winning ideology. We lost last week because this team is still not experienced in winning, they do not know how to gauge their opponents and their own capacity at all times. The coach is included in this. They are all learning.

They will learn most when they hold the cup up this year. They must do this or the opportunity may evaporate.

Come out next week with the desire to win and atone for this weeks misjudgement and it will be ok. Come out nervous and trying to avoid losing it may all be delayed. This is a significant time in this clubs life. Now is the time to build the pressure, intensity and desire. The looks on the faces indicated this may well have happened. The next game will tell us a lot.

GO DEES.

Yes, we will play finals which will be a surprise to many but FFS if anyone at the club is in any way satisfied with that then we will never ever achieve the ultimate.

But in all seriousness, I think Viney needs to find form at Casey now, he's way to far off it.

Brayshaw to the guts, bring in Declase on the wing.

Sad fact - nobody can find form at VFL at the moment or IMVHO in the foreseeable future.

This not turning up mentally to games against low ranked sides needs to stop. NOW. Send a message that complacency, laziness and/or poor skills will not be tolerated. I don't care if we do not win another game and finish bottom half of the 8, and get bundled out first week. Build a ruthless winning culture.

Weideman for Jackson

Sparrow for Brayshaw

Bowey for Hibberd

Jones for Viney

Melksham for Neal-Bullen

Chandler for Pickett

On notice - Brown

I like your posts and would like to subscribe to your ezine. Where can I post a my cheque? :D

Weid for Jackson is interesting as is Melksham for ANB.

Is Jones providing some banjo free Deliverance into the F50 with reliability to the extent he pushes someone out? If so, who?

I thought Brown was useful.

Yes lots of reasons we lost and it clearly wasn’t all Vandenberg’s fault and there a few other players who should be on notice as well. But for me next week I would rather Melksham  or Harmes in for Vanenberg. You clearly have a different opinion and that is all good, we all see things differently.

I think Harmes must return. Vanders replaced him and should make way.

Jackson should be rested as he is not productive enough up forward and misses goals. Weid to play as 2nd ruck not as a set forward

I would like Melk back in, for whom i don't know but we need some better delivery into the forward like and set shot kicking. Maybe rest Jordan

Bowey is ready to go it's just that it's tough to get a game we are pretty settled but Rivers would want to find some form soon or Bowey will take his place.

BOWEY has played some excellent footy this year at Casey. He has pace, courage, footy smarts AND he uses the ball very well with hand and foot. Plays a lot like Caleb Daniels

ANB is a bit of a whipping boy on this forum

The suggestion of Melksham for ANB is flawed and fails to recognise the roles people are playing in this team. And we've heard the success this year is based on roles

ANB is in the team for his 2-way run, as well as being an effective small forward. Holding our defensive structure up the ground requires this run from our forwards. This is why Goodwin thinks more of him than many D'landers

Melksham does not bring the same 2-way run, in fact some on here suggest his defensive run and effort is poor at times.

I don't think ANB has been as bad as many are saying. But if he is to go out, it has to be for a runner (Bowey? Hunt/Hibberd fwd and someone else in back? Baker?)

Brining in a VFL player for Viney? I think lockdown is starting to get to people.  Viney will tag Libba this week.

I know you’re a fan but there is no way any of our backline gets dropped for Bowey.  There is nothing wrong with our use out of the backline.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
