Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Also did anyone else think that there was something else going on last night. Our blokes had a look of resignation about a season that has nearly gone, and could still go awry. Beyond this game itself..

Nothing I haven't regularly seen over the last 50yrs.

You can have one bad performance against one of the poorer sides, it can happen, but the pattern of performances against good opposition vs bad opposition is damning.

We are clearly a better football side than previous years, but there are still some serious issues between the ears. I don’t know why I hadn’t already, but I turned it off as soon Jack Viney mentioned “learnings” in the post game interview.

I wanted to turn it off 10mins into the last qr.
Could see the writing on the wall.
My only surprise is that we didn't actually lose it with 40seconds to go after the Hawthorn leveller.

As for learnings.
The players are parrots.
Brayshaw talked of learnings post game as well.
And with all the learnings over the years our parrots are obviously pretty thick.

One of the few positive I saw out of last night was BBB looked like he was starting to find a bit of form.  An issue for me is that it looks like he's getting too many of his marks of long leads too far up the ground to kick goals from.  I get the sense that he's playing to our game plan in this respect.  Surely when you don't have the most functional forward line in the comp and you have a guy who has been the most prolific goal kicker over a 3 - 4 year period, you structure your forward line setup around him and the way he wants to play than vice versa?

I couldn't believe how fumbly and unclean our skills were for most of the night last night.  Yes Hawthorn laid alot of tackles and applied pressure which would have contributed to that, but I feel as if so much of it was self inflicted as well.  Not a big knock on the guy, because he has generally been awsome for us over the past two seasons, but I also thought Ed Langdon probably played one of (if not the) worst game he's ever played for us last night.

Don't think Ed has been as sharp since the bye.

Agreed.  I generally don't think he has dominated for us like he has in the past for a while.  No doubt other teams have cottoned onto how damaging he is for us and are putting alot of work into him as well.

His ball use has fallen off a cliff.

What do you expect in the moments after a game.  I doubt there are many, with perhaps the exception of Maxy Gawn who have all of the intelligence, confidence and authority to deviate from the script in the heat of the media glare.

For what it's worth, I think Brayshaw certainly has the intelligence and it's partly due to that and understanding his place within the leadership structure that he didn't deviate from script.

Personally I've never really found a need for the ignor software function.  Just take it or leave it with respects to all posters on this forum.  As long as you're not being OTT in attacking your fellow Demon posters, I've generally learnt just don't let the hysterical hyperventilators ruin my day.  This way I do still find the occational gem of a comment that gives me joy and faith in our common love of the MFC from some of those who get carry on a bit and get singled out for doing so.

A very interesting point about experience and games played.  I thought we were lucky to get the 2 points.  It's bizarre how we looked absolutely cooked half way through the 3rd and looked out of it early in the 4th off a 10 day break.  I thought we were going to lose by 4 goals.  Hopefully the two points are as good as a win by seasons end.

If you really think we were younger and less experienced then you know nothing about maths or football.

Take Burgoyne out and see what that does to your average???

They had 10 players with less than 35 games and had 10 first choice players missing.

We were pathetic

Is it that or that he is not being presented with good options to dispose to?

I've got to admit though, I really do wounder how much value there is with some of his hack kicks forward at times.

Sad but true Luther.

He worries me. Plenty of the ball but a less damaging accumulator you couldn't find at the moment.

Only rarely does he hurt the opposition when kicking.  The sad part is he can do if he has the opportunities but jst usually a big long kick to a general area. Too easy to defend often. Trac is the opposite and why he's surpassed Clayton.

Fox/Kayo ones were no better or perhaps the same guys.

You know with all this digital tech we have these days, it's time for a market driven provision of comentators.  The digital platforms should let you select which cometary team you listen to for the game.

This. All other things being equal, we just don’t have the mental or experiential resilience. Goodwin said also that they love the fans, implying that we play better with a crowd. I was at the GWS loss, with a home crowd, and we were horrible. Premiership teams are robust and uncompromising week to week, regardless of externals. For the past 6 weeks, we are the polar opposite of that. Next year maybe, who knows, but with the absolute gift that is our short injury list this year, it looks like being wasted. Grrrrr…..

Yes, I reluctantly agree. Reluctantly, because I so want this to be our year. Just to build on an unstoppable momentum and snare a flag, before the rest of the competition wake up to us.

Often the only value is the ball heads 50m in our direction as opposed to the other direction.

Viney despite his numbers was a liability. Hibberds fumbling is really frustrating and disposal is suspect. Nibbler has reverted to his previous self, running himself ragged to no effect. Goal kicking unacceptable. And what does it take for a formal complaint to be made about the umpiring?

There was a passage in the second or third where both Viney and Gawn were chasing a hawk who ultimately goaled. Gawn nearly got him and busted his guts. Viney gave up. A tale of two captains. His is not match fit and has a loser TEAM mentality.

There is one closed skill in football, set shot goal kicking. The one that is next closest to a closed skill is Max’s taps from centre bounce. I say it’s close to being a closed skill, because on the most part he is so dominant in his tap, that is very nearly a closed skill and unaffected by the opposition ruck.

Interestingly, we are really poor at both areas. We haven’t kicked more goals than behinds for 7 weeks now. And the amount of times Max’s taps are going into a space surrounded by 3 opposition mids is mind boggling.

If both of these things improve, we start smashing teams. The problem is, THEY ARE NOT IMPROVING!!! I want to know why not, because to continue down the current path in this area is to ignore and squander two potential advantages for us

What does “closed skill” mean? I’ve never heard that term. And just like Viney, I’m all for learnings. ?

I think it's certainly that. The hack kicks and the way he ignores a first (and often open) option and ducks back into traffic are just so, so agonising. Viney was exactly the same.

Draw against Hawks 17th on the ladder. Sure reads bad. They did beat the Swans by 38 five weeks back. Beat GWS recently and were close against bombers. So yeah they are 17th but on their day they go ok.

Hawks seemed to outnumber us in our F50 and we were often happy just to bomb it in. Some of our ball movement was a bit safe. Maybe the conditions.

Hawks kicked at least 4 goals that I remember from free kicks inc the 50 meter penalty. 2 def were not there. We missed some sets shots. Flip this and we win pretty easily.

No injuries and 2 points which keeps us 3 wins ahead of 5th with 5 weeks left. Top 4 is all we need given top 2 will likely be Vic teams.

Lets see what we can bring in September.

Petty looked good last night. Looked strong in the contest. Very pleasing.

Although we lead for all but ten minutes of the game we never really turned it on all night and we had at least eight players that just weren’t up for the fight. Our game plan depends on every player playing their part and when they don’t we look poor/ dumb and our kicking for goal is just so poor that is two of our last three games where it has cost us six premiership points. I thought that umps were poor again, our goal kicking was very poor again and our bottom eight players were very ordinary.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
