Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

3rd or 4th game for the year where we got on a bit of a run with Jackson in the ruck, brought Gawn back in and it went the other way.

This time it cost us the game.

Certainly one of the observations that stung.

The only upside* was that we couldn't go to the match. (I had a ticket.)

It was bad enough watching it on TV.

I'm probably repeating what others have said, but my observations are:

  1. Lack of intensity. Players laughing/joking as though they thought "don't worry, we've got this if we try".
  2. Agree about poor old #7. Clueless player. Opposition players know that he'll continually try to take on the tackler. And poor skills/decision making.
  3. Players fumbling/falling over.
  4. Repeated kicking to a nest of hawks (pun intended) in our forward line.
  5. Abysmal kicking for goal.
  6. Dodgy umpiring ... particularly the hawks getting frees when they simply barged into tackles head first.
  7. Return to the 'bad old days' of other sides getting on streaks where they kick 4 or more goals in a row.
  8. Dr D ... is he for real?
  9. Lucky not to lose the match.
  10. I won money betting on Hawthorn. (For some reason, Sportsbet paid out a reduced amount ... not sure why.)
  11. Most players played poorly. Surely they can't play that badly two weeks in a row???

*Well, other than not actually losing.

Doesn’t help when the umpiring is shameful

The third quarter, umpire No. 12, 4 goals awarded to the Hawks to make the game 'interesting' by his command. Showboat umpiring and plenty of the sympathetic, inexplicable absence of attention to the inexeperienced Hawks players holding, head-high tackling, throwing of the ball in close. It was almost a declaration by this umpire of his support for the Hawthorn FC.

You can have one bad performance against one of the poorer sides, it can happen, but the pattern of performances against good opposition vs bad opposition is damning.

We are clearly a better football side than previous years, but there are still some serious issues between the ears. I don’t know why I hadn’t already, but I turned it off as soon Jack Viney mentioned “learnings” in the post game interview.

Goodwin said the Hawks outworked us and were hungrier. That is damning because it is all down to mindset, we have shown we CAN do it especially against the best so why did the team think they could just turn up for an easy game? Hopefully they got ripped a new one behind closed doors because that is pathetic and it has been a recurring theme. The supporters and coaches deserve better.

We want to be a ruthless club? We wouldn't know the meaning of the word.

Bit harsh, Oliver was our leading possession winner and tackler. He had 11 when 9 players had 1 or less.

What "learnings" has J.V learnt that improves him as a footballer? Oh thats right, get in the way of Oliver and try to barge through tackle after tackle after tackle. He hacks it forward and turns it over when he does get it. I would seriously replace him with someone with skill, perhaps Bowey.

There is one closed skill in football, set shot goal kicking. The one that is next closest to a closed skill is Max’s taps from centre bounce. I say it’s close to being a closed skill, because on the most part he is so dominant in his tap, that is very nearly a closed skill and unaffected by the opposition ruck.

Interestingly, we are really poor at both areas. We haven’t kicked more goals than behinds for 7 weeks now. And the amount of times Max’s taps are going into a space surrounded by 3 opposition mids is mind boggling.

If both of these things improve, we start smashing teams. The problem is, THEY ARE NOT IMPROVING!!! I want to know why not, because to continue down the current path in this area is to ignore and squander two potential advantages for us

I’m not falling into this nonsense again. Mainly driven by the same authors of drivel.

We are struggling when we are getting challenged and hunted. And we are not a ruthless team.

But I will take that if the 2021 Demons never give up and are in the game with 10 mins to go in a prelim.

I want top 4 and last nights result has not dampened that - we were never going to catch WB and Geel percentage.

Oliver, Petracca and Viney had no issues finding the ball. But jeez I don’t think I’ve ever seen as many dumb or ineffective disposals. What’s going on?

Ouch.

As much as I enjoy gus and gawnie podcasts .....gus should stop and spend more time kicking at goals.

And a few others.

Did we train too hard during the week?

So slow.

Its just so hard to see us winning a flag after that rubbish.

There has to be a reason we cant beat low teams.

But who knows.

Another thing that was clear to me, JV and AVB are too slow to try and duck and weave around opposition players. Sparrow comes in for one of them and Harmes replaces the other. Harmes is a better tagger and Sparrow has more upside than either

Vanders played four times as well as Harmes did last week.

Once we got 30 points up, we put the cruise control on the campervan, went out back, made a sandwich and a cuppa, then once finished we walked back to the steering wheel and realised there was a cliff… tried to brake, couldnt and weeeeeeeee off the edge we went.

Viney despite his numbers was a liability. Hibberds fumbling is really frustrating and disposal is suspect. Nibbler has reverted to his previous self, running himself ragged to no effect. Goal kicking unacceptable. And what does it take for a formal complaint to be made about the umpiring?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
