Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hi BDA. If the AFL are going to back this up with a Friday night blockbuster against the Dogs (allegedly) then I don't see how we wouldn't have been asked for our input first. As soon as I saw it mentioned my first thought was that Perty and Tony Cochrane got their heads together and concocted a win - win situation for us both to salvage some money out of our respective NT deals.

I hope you’re right and we didn’t just get sent there on a whim without any financial benefit.

Ofcourse they wouldn’t dream of sending the Dogs to play GC in Darwin which is instead next week at Metricon.

Burgess will earn his bucks for this one in terms of recovery. We’ve never had a 6 day break after Darwin.

Having said all that, the AFL have an infactuation with Essendon at the moment and their game against Sydney  could very well be the Friday night that weekend and the Dees V Dogs in a stand alone Saturday night game.

Other than not being a great spectacle it shouldn't bother us too much.  Most of our list know the conditions pretty well, we've had some good wins up there in the past and if anything we would have more of home ground advantage than GC.  It's very unlikely we'll be asked to play on the Friday night following against the Dogs.  More likely a 7 day break I'd expect.

From a money point of view, I wonder if a Saturday night game is better for the gate receipts anyway. Dogs is our one remaining home game for the year that will draw a big crowd. I hope we requested the Saturday night and that we make a big song and dance about it and get a big attendance (as big as allowed) and boost up the bank balance after a hard financial year.

That’s [censored]. I get moving due to Covid but changing the venue for venues sake 2 weeks out from the game when I’d set my whole weekend free to go down to the coast and watch the game is a mockery for fans. AFL proving out of touch.

This game was scheduled for gold coast and that is where it should be played. Playing in Darwin. What a joke. If we rest players for this game then we might get done so I would almost rest them against the dogs and go over and give the eagles a damn good thrashing.

Is the only reason to move the game to underwrite the Darwin stadium management??

Well, this is kind of ironic for me personally.  I live in Brisbane and just yesterday I was looking at our fixture in terms of lining up dates against the games and realised that I'd double booked myself by committing to a boys camping weekend on Fraser Island for our Metricon Gold Coast game.  Guess I don't feel so bad about it from that perspective now, but disapointed for all the other Demons fans this screws around.

At least I got to see us thrash Hawthon and take care if Geelong at the MCG earlier this year.  And bigger picture I also realised there is a public holiday in Queensland the Monday  following what should be grand final weekend, should we make it.

A bit unlucky if we’re being honest.

We’ll have a likely 6 day break into the Bulldogs Friday night game the following round, and we don’t get the luxury of the NT home gate.

(Plus I and many other Dee supporters would’ve already booked airfares to GC, where this game was originally scheduled)

Lions Power game could be fascinating for the make up of the 5th to 8 th positions and could snag the Friday night spot if the AFL had a mind to be fair with the fixture.  To give Dees the Saturday night game time?

Agree. I'm south of Brisbane and was looking forward to seeing us live at Metricon. Stuffed me up big time. Will now look forward to flights etc. back to old home town of Melbourne to watch a final.

Knowing how the AFL like to operate, just about a certainty we get fixtured to play the Friday night as opposed to Saturday.

True but there are a couple of decent games in round 20 that would be Friday night worthy - Essendon v Sydney; Giants v Port both have big ramifications for the 8 (at this stage anyway!).  I think we would've agreed to the game in Darwin with conditions.

Geez that’s very [censored] annoying for us Brisbane fans.

Yep, been looking forward to it for a while. Only lucky thing is I almost booked rooms at Royal Pines last night for the family but decided to wait a few extra days. I feel for those who outlayed on flights in good faith though.

This is a bad result for us overall, unless we’re getting paid by the AFL or NT to allow it to happen.

There’s nothing good about playing in Darwin as the away side, and particularly not the week before a home game against the Dogs that we surely want to be the Friday night. Sure, it could be a Saturday night to give us an extra day, but that’s a loss for us given it’s our home game.

It also mucks with planning, for the club and for MFC members who had planned to go to GC, the game only being two weeks away.

This game could have been GC’s home game against Essendon in Round 21. Essendon have no other travel this year, we still have Perth and Geelong to come after Darwin.

Happy for our NT fans but otherwise hate this news.

We have booked the Gold Coast! We were all excited yesterday after hearing that it just became a Covid “green “ zone , the trip was on! Thanks AFL!
anyone know a good footy pub at the Gold Coast with a Melbourne vibe?

Yep, same for my family. Miss 12 is ropable & I’m not far behind. This is rolling fixture gone mad. Impossible for travelling fans to plan and surely a contributing factor in crowds being down.

Tom Morris in the half time segment hinted that we might make a bit of money out of it, but didn’t sound convincing.

The more I think about, surely this is a joint GC and Melbourne initiative. I just can’t see us agreeing to play in Darwin if GC are pocketing all the cash and our travel and recovery plans are being significantly altered. Pert seemed a bit distressed about the loss of revenue in a recent video, so perhaps this is his way of recouping some revenue.

Furthermore we’ve then requested to play the Dogs on the following Saturday night??

Glad to hear this is going ahead and MFC get some much needed $$

That’s absolutely not confirmed that we’ll making a quid out of this game.

Hopefully Pert will clarify during the week.

Its poor form to swap the fixture given people have known for 7 months that this game was supposed to be on the GC, and people have made their travel plans accordingly.

Well Tom Morris has gone early on that one just now in typical fashion if that’s the case.

I also forgot this is a GC home game so no wonder it’s not confirmed. A lot of last min negotiations I imagine. Extremely rough on the fans, the pre booked interstate footy trip is not in a good way lately.

Edit: Seen your earlier post, understand better now.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
