Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Rd 19 vs Gold Coast in Darwin

A bit disappointed about this.

I'm happy enough to be making up a game in the NT but why can't it be in Alice Springs? It's a beautiful ground there, and it's always a great game of footy. Darwin is generally a [censored] spectacle with the high humidity and slippery ball. Also in the past Melbourne teams generally haven't shown up the following week due in part to the fatigue of Darwin games.

Can only assume there's a clear reason why the game can't be played in Alice.

It's a Suns home game. They were scheduled to play Hawks there earlier in the year but were forced to play at the SCG during the Vic 2 week outbreak in Rd 11. This is their replacement, not ours.

A bit unlucky if we’re being honest.

We’ll have a likely 6 day break into the Bulldogs Friday night game the following round, and we don’t get the luxury of the NT home gate.

(Plus I and many other Dee supporters would’ve already booked airfares to GC, where this game was originally scheduled)

In 2018 we played and beat the Dogs off a 7 day break after Darwin.

The dogs are a fair sight better this year than in 2018. I'd fancy we're better this year too, but not by a massive amount given 2018 was a fair old year for us.

I wonder if we also had a say on playing the game up there and if so perhaps we’re getting a split on the NT government money offered? Seems like a good opportunity for both of the sides with an NT presence to get some of the coin back they lost from earlier cancelled  games.

Our home ground in the NT is Alice Springs. Looking forward at our fixture, it would hardly be feasible to change any of our future 2021 home games there, leaving aside unexpected pandemic circumstances.

It’s too late to move the Hawks game and you wouldn’t move the Bulldogs fixture away from the G as it looms as a major blockbuster. Moving the Adelaide game to Alice Springs would mean you go into a finals series having not played at the MCG and likely finals site for a month.

I wonder if Pert was consulted about this  or if we were simply the bunnies that have copped the trip to Darwin to satisfy a GC Suns contract?

The only thing worse about playing in Darwin (from a recovery perspective) is playing as the away team and not receiving a cent in return.

As for Alice Springs, they couldn’t possibly play the Adelaide game there later in the year. That would be Darwin, Melbourne,, Perth, Alice Springs and Geelong to end the season. We have way bigger fish to fry than taking a tour all around Australia just before finals.

We mustn't have had a say. This trip makes no sense on any level for the club. We've copped the worst of it financially missing out on the QB and Alice games and now have to travel to Darwin in the run up to finals for no logical reason.

If anything the club should have told the AFL where to go. We don't owe them money and are not beholden to them. Or maybe we are in financial trouble and there's a quid pro quo here somewhere. I'd like to know what it is because on face value there is no reason why we would agree to this.

[censored], first I go into lock down and miss watching the GWS game at the G. Now they relocate the one QLD game this year to Darwin.

Well backing that up with a Friday night game against the Dogs won’t be ideal. Hope we demand the Saturday night game the following week.

Expect a few guns to be managed for this one and be fresh for The Doggies.

Might be a great time for a farewell game for Nev.

Damn, pretty pricey flights up to DRW for the game. Even the Jetstar credit I have for twice cancelling trips to Hobart dating back to last year won't come close to covering the cost.

What, that's not fair. I get moving the game because of covid, but gold coast is ok to go to now.

There is a reason we gave up our Darwin game.

Why should we be forced to go to Darwin, I'm sorry they have missed out but surely gold coast could play someone else there.

We are a top team. I bet if it was Collingwood on top the afl wouldn't send them to Darwin.

We have booked the Gold Coast! We were all excited yesterday after hearing that it just became a Covid “green “ zone , the trip was on! Thanks AFL!
anyone know a good footy pub at the Gold Coast with a Melbourne vibe?

Hi BDA. If the AFL are going to back this up with a Friday night blockbuster against the Dogs (allegedly) then I don't see how we wouldn't have been asked for our input first. As soon as I saw it mentioned my first thought was that Perty and Tony Cochrane got their heads together and concocted a win - win situation for us both to salvage some money out of our respective NT deals.

That genuinely sucks for you.
I had fares booked for this one but will put it towards a travel bank and use it if we have to play Brisbane in the finals up there.

I highly recommend Star City Casino (formerly Jupiters). They have a bunch of screens in the sports bar and also a few tv screens in a nice outdoor balcony area to enjoy the footy with a frothie.

Most of the pubs in Surfers and Broadbeach are NRL centric.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
