Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A repeat, (even if only 50%), would be great.

Things to do this game

1 - Max ruck 80% of the game, he is the best ruckman in the league.  Jackson will get there but it's time for Max to take his position back

2 - do away with the Hollywood handballs that have crept back in

3 - look for a leading fwd, if it's not on kick in the air to BB advantage, allow him to bring it to ground.

4 - get back over the mark, been a few kicks touched which has ruined a passage of play

5 - Trac kick to advantage don't try pin point,  love everything he does but the past few weeks he has looked to bullet passes in rather than lay them out in front. Could be due to no talls in the fwd line

The good thing about Brown playing is that he has an outside chance of marking one of tracc's passes given his height.

Any other player and it is kicked  a foot over their head.

Come to think of it he missed Max by a foot in rbe ladt q, so perhaps Brown needs to pop Charlie on his shoulders

The other good thing is Fritsch and even TMac have a little less focus on them from the opposition and become more dangerous IMO.

Something else people don't realise is, Ben Brown is a 100% game time player. He was down in game time in his first 3 games, despite managing 5 goals and an assist. Clearly wasn't fully right.

He saves rotations and keeps the mids fresh. He'll kick at least 5 goals, and we'll run over the top of them big time in the last quarter.

Big Bad Bustling Beautiful Ben Brown is BACK!

Geez I've been a fan of Brown's for years, but even I've forgotten what a goalkicking machine he has been over a long period of time.

Yep this is the 10 goal Reel.  Draws plenty of frees which for us is super rare up forward.  Every extra goal counts whether the free is there or it isn't.

Check the last goal.  Would love to see Tracc break from the center and kick to BB's favoured side like Higgins here.  And others...Clarry, Harmes, Viney!...

When you start hitting a KF up like this on a regular basis it also frees up our other forwards when their player peels off to double team etc. Throws the whole opposition defence out and puts doubt in their mind.  We are way too predictable and easy to defend without a KF target playing deep and doubling back on transition as BB tends to read and do so well here.  He knows when to hold his Depth.

Will also mean Macca gets the opp's 2nd best tall which might help him out as well.

Not picking Brown after Essendon was a mistake, but an honest one - it was just one game. After 2 weeks in a row of poor forward connection, why compound the mistake?

Just get him in, we all cried, and Goodwin did that.

What do you want? A personally signed apology from Goodwin to you?

They haven’t compounded it which is great. But a mistake was made and we can point it out can’t we?

Thats rhetorical obviously but we are a bit precious at the minute I feel.

That’s a double edged sword as he will take 45 mins away from other players in the team. So Petracca plays less, Jordan, etc. I don’t know what the split will be but our stars play a lot of minutes and I think that is by design.

What I like about his goals in this game is there was a variety of goals, a lot like the ones he kicked in the Casey game. He actually is decent at keeping his feet and following up. He draws free kicks and nails shots. He got a couple short passes and slotted them. It kinda debunks this idea that he can only kick goals from leading out and marking. A lot of people say he is nailed to the train tracks. I dispute that.

interesting to see that the pear are sticking with two genuine ruckmen - lycett and ladhams - plus three tall forwards - dixon, georgiades, and marshall

our workrate from the backline moving the ball forward is going to be so important in this game - salem, hunt, rivers, hibberd, plus brayshaw working back and then moving it at speed and with accuracy is vital

Judgement cast too soon on very little evidence it seems KP.  It will take him at least four to five games to settle in to this side and for some of those running into our forward 50 to start spotting him up and kicking to his favoured side etc.  This team is not used to playing to a genuine multiple goal kicking forward as a regular target.

I'm not expecting instant miracles but if he can average two to three goals per match (on average) over a block of 5/6 matches we're getting a decent return and BB will be doing what is asked i believe.  Might take a month or so but if he finds form we will become a more formidable prospect in time for finals.  Let's hope Goodwin is also wise and patient here and allows this transition to develop.

Alot of this will depend on the mid field and small forwards picking up their game from here too.  Our success or otherwise doesn't all fall on whether BB fires or not.

Just play with same intensity we brought against the Dogs.

Harmes tag Wines!

A little more run & go, we’ve become to static!

I would have Harmes playing a hard tag on Pepper.  In hot form at the mo but doesn't like the two way accountability that Harmes will force him to bring.

Tag team semi shared role (softer tag) between JJ and Viney on Wines might be the go.

May takes Dixon.  Petty or Smith (if Petty doesn't get up) to George.  Hopefully Hibbo can manage Marshall with chop outs from Lever.

The key will be the supply though.  Mids need to step up in a big way vs last three weeks or so plus extra pressure in our 50 to slow their transition.

If i see a loose zone happening in our front half of ground from the get go you can probably kiss this game goodbye.  Need to bring manic pressure all over the ground from the first bounce.  Can back it off a little if we get a decent lead and zone off a bit more from there (in patches) once we have control of the game.

This.  If I see the flaccid zone early I will spew.  Port get beaten by pressure at the contest and fast ball movement.  Stop their mark, halve groundball contests (or better) and be in their faces and we will win.

I agree Buck!!

As soon as I saw we had a spare back at the start of the game and they had a spare mid I knew we were in trouble

The reason we have struggled lately has been lack of pressure and poor setups at the centre

Challenge to Goodwin to fix it.He must set up more offensively from the start of the game. I'm sure the player are not liking the way we are setting up and I suppose it is reflected in the lower than normal pressure on the ball carrier

A five goal haul from bbb will suffice.

Brown is a welcome addition because our conversion has been down.

But the real issue is centre clearances.  If Wines, Boak and Drew touch us up in centre clearances like GWS did then we won't win.  Drew appears to be the defensive option - his tackle numbers are high but he can win his own clearances.  I think we need a different mix from Petracca, Oliver and Viney this week and I would send Harmes to one of Wines or Boak.  Drew probably goes to Petracca or Oliver.  That leaves say Wines and Oliver head to head.  If we can neutralise the centre clearance disparity we can win.

The expectations on BB are pretty unrealistic if you ask me

The guy hasn't really done enough to genuinely deserve a call up (no idea if he's been training the house down) but his Casey form has been so so IMHO

Am I against giving him a chance - not really because at the very least he may attract their best defender. However anyone expecting him to have a big influence on the result and kick more than 1 or 2 goals is being very very optimistic / unrealistic

Ruck work will be important too. Gawn currently ranks 16th out of ruckmen for hitout to advantage %.

Agree with this, great adding a forward but what are we doing to improve the delivery into the forward line and this, clearances.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
