Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Rudeness towards trainers

Recommended Posts

On the weekend across a number of matches I watched, I saw players being rude and downright disrespectful towards trainers. One case is hand is when Viney was sore and the trainer came over to assist only for him to push her away.

It is a regular occurrence in the game and one I always hate seeing. It’s always a bad look and I have absolutely no idea why players would treat trainers in such a way.

Thought Viney's attitude looked poor all day tbh. Gave Harmes a spray when he went for the torp on the half time siren, but in the first quarter he completely burnt Trac.

Still not sure if he burnt him or if it was a bad kick.

Viney’s attitude towards teammates has been poor most of his career. Something tells me he is very much his own person and not really a guy that everyone gets along with. There was a game last year where he stormed off into the rooms and didn’t join in the song. Apparently it was because he had to take a bog. It was quickly forgotten about, but I’ve never been convinced the story was truth. He is what he is and the weekend was a prime example of a few contradictions in his character.

Saw Viney push the trainer too. I get that he's competitive, but that was as disrespectful as it gets as far as I'm concerned. She is a member or staff who's job is to look after the well being of the players. And he physically pushed her away? Extremely poor.

All across the ground in the weekend I saw infighting amongst our group.

It was an embarrassing mess of a game all over the ground. The mistakes were extraordinary and the selfishness at times was unbelievable.

This isnt the thread but I completely disagree with those that think this was lost at selection. We've been at our best this year without Ben Brown. Do supporters understand that or not? We were something like 6 or 7 and 0 without BB or Weideman. Supporters have no idea.

We losg the game due to our atrocious ball use going inside 50 all game. We were also comprehensively beaten up around the ball for three quarters.

There's nothing else to it. Hopper came out and said that they had lined this game up as a 'final' for them and they played like it was a final all game. And we finally decided to give full effort in the last. But unforced errors still cost us even when we could have snatched it on the line.

Not having Ben Brown out there was not the problem for one second.

Between the ears again, completely. Petracca, Oliver, Harmes, May, Gawn, McDonald, Rivers, Viney, ANB etc. The mistakes they made all day killed us.

A repeat of our effort in the loss to Adelaide.

Running low on things to be offended about?

I think its reasonable for a bloke to not be happy with watching one of our senior players push a female trainer in frustration on the field without being accused of being "offended" ...

I get the feeling I'm about to be called a snowflake or similar

Not at all, you’re entitled to your opinion. I personally didn’t think it was a good look (regardless of the trainers gender) however I certainly don’t think it warrants its own thread.

And this might be partly why it continues to happen and continues to be accepted behaviour. Issues such as this should be discussed.
Btw, I’ve only been on DL for a couple of months, but in that short time I’ve lost count of thread topics more unwarranted than this one. ?

I agree with your sentiments regarding Viney, but the poor entries is a bit of a chicken or the egg argument. A poor entry isn’t poor if a tall marking forward runs and grabs it, but it’s considered poor if you can’t pinpoint your kick to a smallish forward. I’m sure Geelong have plenty of poor entries that are made to look good by having Hawkins and Cameron down there.

It makes it a whole lot harder to nail a forward 50 entry when there’s no tall forward target to kick to. If this wasn’t a problem there wouldn’t be a whole heap of media commentators out there also saying we lack forward presence.

They also never say thank you to the water boys/girls after receiving a drink. You watch a player receive a drink after a goal is kicked across the league and they never acknowledge the staff member.

But I'm more offended in relation to the on field footballing matters that took place on Saturday.

I read the Viney thing slightly differently.

Players are hyper aware of the fact that if they come off after a knock the Doctor is duty bound to look at the incident and begin concussion protocol. It doesn’t take a genius to realise, right or wrong, that highly competitive professional athletes will do anything to continue to compete.

I think Jack was annoyed about the line of questioning from the trainer as he may have been concerned about what she was implying with her questioning. She’s just doing her job and he doesn’t need to react so dramatically, but I’m also cutting him some slack because he’s also doing his job, and his career is built on determination and bravery.

Pretty much nailed it in regard to the the issues on the weekend and somewhat our last 3 games. Well beaten by the Pies and Giants out of the middle.

what I find astounding is the myth people have about Ben Brown being some pack crashing contested marking beast.

I do think he’s still worth a look if they’ve built his tank enough to make multiple repeat leads into the channels which Tmac created by leading hard up the ground

Devil's advocate in Viney's defence for that particular incident - if he had already said a number of times, "I'm fine, leave it. Leave it.  Get your hand out of my face while I'm trying to gather myself after taking a hit. No, get off me," and then she's once against wiped a tissue across his face like he's a snotty four year old, then, yeah, that's reached a point where he would have to push her off.

Maybe I'm just a bit sensitive to carer-patient consent after all the NDIS and Aged Care training videos I've been exposed to recently.

Of course, it is also possible that Viney was just being a bit of a sulky snotty-nosed four year old. ?

This is something that astounds me every game I watch. It is just common decency to say “thanks” when the trainer gives you a drink or whatever.

We see the great “standards” on display with players sweeping the room, as per the All Blacks. Might be sincere, but is caught on camera and looks a little bit staged - Humility Signalling, if you like. A quick acknowledgment of the water bottle carrier is actually a human interaction that they could engage in, as distinct from being on the sweeping end of a broom for the change room camera.

Come on mate, in this day and age we don't need to see this sort of thing. It is possible to show emotion without being rude to the people working for you.

it's all because of this [censored] mentality of being tough by pushing trainers away, I'll soldier on mentality. I would've loved the trainer to say 'Jack, you're coming off because you're torching the footy and kicking it blindly out of defensive 50m in the air to a GWS player'.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
