Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

CHANGES: Rd 17 vs Port Adelaide

Had a quick look at the possibility of the whole training tapering thing some have mentioned. Not an exact science obviously, but if you look at Port's record under Burgess in the round 13-16 range it could potentially give us a clue:

Port's record rounds 13-16 (adjusted for byes)
2013: 2-2
2014: 1-3
2015: 1-3
2016: 1-3
2017: 2-2

It's a VERY shallow analysis, but you never know. Burgess has written/spoken a fair bit about tapering training, so it's a good chance it's part of his strategy with us.

Wednesday would be the day to watch. IMO it would be a light week given the short turnaround, captain's run Wednesday will be the decider I reckon.

If there was going to be any drills the ones TODAY are VIP.

They are not Capt's Runs tasks.

This KPF fiasco is bizarre.

Goody and the Coaches are not responding to a situation.

What  was Browne doing on Sat night then?

who is playing FF vs Power?

Tommy must not lead so far up the ground if no one else tall is selected in the FF position.

By goodness we have a lot at stake on Thursday night in Dimmas words "this is the most important week in the season".

for the one Club we are invested in so heavily and lovingly so far in 2021.

I see what you’re saying but it would still mean Brown, T Mac, LJ and Fritsch in the fwd line. Overall our fwd line would be taller and less mobile even if some compensating changes were made

Not necessarily DD.  When LJ is in the ruck Gawny can rest on the bench allowing a mid like Tracc (or even JJ, Harmes or Viney.... if only he was match fit) to play some minutes at HF in place of LJ.

Rusults in two talls, two mediums and two smalls up forward.  That's a genuinely balanced line up.  You can also play Gawn for miner minutes in BB's role when BB is resting and maintain LJ in the ruck for the same balanced line up.

Many ways to skin a cat.

Re Brown, injured again maybe? The knee? If he is not picked this week, then that can be the only reason why he spent most of Saturday on an exercise bike

I think it will. Early in the year theball was being brought to ground allowing our crumbers and pressure players to hold it in there.

That doesn't seem to be happening as we look to hit targets more

I agree, the reason our small guys were effective earlier in the year is we had contests inside 50. Fritsch doesn't provide that when he is standing under a high ball and T-mac seems to be operating much further up the ground.

In the last few weeks I feel as though we are giving up a lot of uncontested marks inside our 50. Don't recall this happening nearly as much earlier in the year.

Bowey has spent the entire year playing back. He won't suddenly be brought in to play forward.

Hunt replaces either Spargo or Kozzy and Bowey plays back in Hunts role

I like your thinking.

Gawn is not a natural forward and should either ruck all day, defend down back if needed or rest. LJ still has a some way to go to be effective as a resting forward also, maybe playing up the ground a bit.

Tmac plays closer to goals but has different leading patterns to Ben Brown and should work.

In regard to Tmac geeting further away from goals lately, Kevein Sheedy once said that when the bombers played St Kilda, he didn't mind Robert harvey getting 35 possessions as most were upfield and not necessarily damaging.  This was said by an oppo player this week of Tmac.

The fix is hard here IMO.

There are other issues than I am sure YZE is working on mid-field -wise.

Is there training today? There was training yesterday and there's usually the captain's run the day before the game, I wouldn't have thought they'd train 3 days in a row; especially on a 5 day break.

he had his opportunity and didn't grasp it

with the rotations at casey on the weekend, it would seem the likely three to come in are milkshake, avb, and sideshow bob

i would presume harmes / viney, anb / pickett, and sparrow are the likely to make way

Yuk!  Don’t play hunt forward!

Why?

He's the best set shot at the club and has kicked a tidy 42.20 over his career.

We lost a game directly due to our disgraceful kicking for goal on the weekend. Wouldn't it be a good idea to address that issue and play someone who's competent around goals?

Not 100% against this idea. At least you'll know he'll get more than 4 possessions and 0 marks this time around. (or at least you'd hope!)

However, would prefer a proven 60 goal a year forward to come in.

Think Jordon has dropped off because he’s been replaced by Viney, get him back around the footy and he will be fine.

He offers a good point of difference to our other mids because he is accountable and tackles

Viney is a very ordinary footballer not helped by critical injuries he will not in my opinion play out his contract

Jordon is a good footballer learning his craft

Surely then we're bringing in Daw if that is the criteria?

Wouldn’t be surprised if Viney was managed this week. He looked way off the pace theses 2 matches and off 5 days break could be more of a liability Thursday night than he was the past 2.

A fit Viney is critical for finals. With his injury history I would not risk him off 5 day break.

Reckon it's a trust factor with Weideman. From a teammates and coach perspective.

The Collingwood game unfortunately would have left a foul taste in everyone's mouths and I think now they want him to at least spend a good couple of weeks in the VFL to prove a point, but also work on basic fundamentals before he's actually considered.

Even watching the VFL goals on the MFC website there were still a dropped marks by Weideman that he should be simply mopping up.

Don't think we'll be seeing Weid in the AFL for a while now.

Totally agree.

Weid hasn't been in the 2s long enough to convince his teammates that he should return.

He's a confidence player (maybe a little more than most), and would need to bring the house down for a few weeks in a row in the 2s before returning to the AFL. That way he comes in, leads up, clunks marks, kicks that first important goal etc., rather than coming back unsure of his value - and having the same issues that will probably result in him yoyoing between the 2s.

Get his confidence/skills up - work on our delivery as well, as that has also been a major problem of late.  He'll come back to a better system, he'll receive better delivery, he'll kick a bag, we'll win the flag etc.

Well it's over to Goodwin and co now?they need to make changes to our forward line this week, and let's hope they roll the dice and just select BBB or Mirch Brown??

The reality is just that - it is definitely over to G and Co to sort out the forward potency that we all see as an enormous, dormant asset and to strategise what they could produce. The timeframe for the development of finals readiness is perfect, right now and highly necessary, right now.

Favourites, anticipated experiential form and a host of conventional thoughts have seen us dip. It's time to change, producing another 'new' strategy and more bang for the buck.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
