Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There's no way that Salem is going to be shifted to another position based on his current form. He's a potential half back All- Australian. Keep him there.

Agreed but I reckon Spargo would go alright in the middle.

I’d be dropping Viney and looking at AVB. Viney is right off the pace of the game and constantly makes poor decisions by foot. His kicking skills are sub-standard. He needs to show some form before playing seniors. My concern is that he may be broken, permanently! This foot issue seems like it is set to plague him.!

GAME LOST AT THE SELECTION TABLE:

Instead of oiling the Jag the selection committee could be replaced with the following personnel:

In: Captain Obvious, Jack the Blind Miner, Guru Bob, Sam "you know it makes sense" Kekovich and anyone else who can select a forward line.

And “hope” being the operative word. We have peaked too early. Have a look around. Brisbane starting to flex muscle, Geelong give up a 4 goal deficit to win by 7 against a side we struggled to beat, Dogs going beautifully. And we are doing what? We will be 5th by end of next round. We cannot kick goals. TMac has fallen off a cliff, but then we did try to trade him last year. May I ask, we’re you at the game today? Because they never gave a yelp. Outplayed by the team sitting 9th. Do you really think the Giants would have beaten Brisbane, Geelong, Bulldogs or Port today, at their HOME grounds?

Yes I was at the game. If your summary of it is “we never gave a yelp” then I’m not interested in your analysis.

We did most things right all game, but made the same small category of errors. You talk as if we have fallen apart but the reality is yesterday was a poor stoppage performance with missed set shots. Most of the rest of what makes us a good side was still there, including the defensive work and ability to transition the ball from the back half to a position to score from.

If yesterday is the sole determinative factor for the rest of the season then sure, we’re stuffed. Bur it isn’t.

Ben Brown did zero today in the twos.

anyone really think he would made a difference today?

Played 2 or 3 quarters for two kicks and two frees against. And the Weed killed it

Yes.

We were screaming out for a marking option forward of centre.

Yeah, AVB will really lift the kicking skills....

It might be time to play Petty forward again. He's been good there in the past and he is playing much better footy than Weid or BBB.

We are screaming for a key forward and he could be the best option.

Majak could play Petty's current role.

Couldn’t be any worse than Viney and might actually win a clearance. Again though, the only opinion that matters here is yours. You are by far the biggest antagonist on this forum.

We lost because we got smashed at the clearances and around the ball. We were small forward, so I'd bring Weideman or the other Brown in.

But we gotta get around the ball fixed. Lot of ball watchers in the first half.

Just a bad game that we could have won.

In: Brown

Out: Sparrow (but Pickett and Hunt are vulnerable too), Melbourne Match Committee huffing spray paint fumes from a paper bag.

Hunt should never have been moved from defence. Its revitalised his career.

Dealt with Tipenwutti last week, and others.

It was a desperate roll of the dice yesterday and he's never been a quality forward at any stage - doesn't have the evasive tricks  as shown in last 1/4.

back to defence if theres amatch up

We won’t make 3 unforced changes. At 12-3 you can’t throw the baby out with the bath water.

We are playing one defensive mid too many. I would bring in Brown and drop one of Viney, Harmes or Sparrow.
Harmes is the most versatile as he can play attacking, or play a shut down role which we may need versus Port. So I suspect it’ll be Sparrow while we continue to wait for Viney to gain fitness and form (which I disagree with but think Goodwin won’t drop the VC).

Hibberd kept Greene to 7 touches. Yes he kicked three goals but he barely got near it all day.

Hibberd's effort pales in comparison to the other issues we had today.

And when you say "small defender?", you're defeating your own suggestion - if you can't name someone to take his spot, he doesn't get dropped.

And one of those goals was a gift.

The more I think about how many players were managed at casey last night I wouldn't be surprised to see multiple changes. Viney coming back from foot problems may not be able to play 2 games in 5 days. Picket is out of form. Max is doing less ruck time and I remind everyone in the off season he had knee issues and narrowly avoided surgery. Many ask why he is playing limited ruck time well like most footballers no one is 100% fit and able. Jordan is in his first season, Jackson & Rivers in their second. I sincerely hope that Burgess has this under control because they don't have much notice to prepare

Last year against Port we came of the short break didn't rest many players and got smashed. The only upside is the players get a significant break before their next game

What the one where he smashed Hibberd in the face, collected the ball and then dropped his knees to the ground to pull a high free kick in front of goal?

Naaah, the commentators said it was "a wonderful professional free kick."

I thought Hibberd did a great job too.

Yep Brown is in for sure. Hardly any game time. Melksham did a lot of bench time too I believe.

I'd say they are the two ins.

huh? People were saying 'we must play Ben Brown'. Then after people seeing that Brown is still [censored] in the vfl retracted those statements really quick. myself included. But we can't play Brown for 2-3 more weeks until he has been consistent in the vfl.

Why not? We played Viney straight away without an VFL form whatsoever ? Is it because his name is Viney and the romanticism that he attracts?

Brown kicked 5 last week and apparently was on managed minutes last night. I think Brown has runs on the board at AFL level to at least be given an opportunity

Geez, I didnt think he was bad in the three Afl he played in and was stiff to be dropped.

Its bizarre Brown didn’t play after kicking 5 last week. Goodwin has a knack of being stubborn and keep doing the same things over and over again even if they are not working. Brown is definitely in his bad books for some reason but now will be forced to play him this week. Another game with the current forward line not working will see serious questions being about his judgement. Yesterday even if Brown  played as statue up forward he would have improved our forward line structure considering GWS were down a key defender after a few minutes.

Take away the stigma of Brown for a sec. we need somebody in our 50 to:

a) Provide a target inside 50

b) Make a contest and bring it to ground

c) Take a good defender.

When T-Mac gets up the ground and takes a good contested mark we are a tall short up forward and we just need that foil. Ok so it doesn’t need to be bombing in constantly but we seemed to like that option yesterday and may need it as a last resort occasionally.

If people are happy with our current forward setup then fine, but our small forwards aren’t giving much in terms of goals right now and we need other ways to get a look at goal.

If we play like we did yesterday even Hawthorn, Adelaide and the Gold Coast will touch us up.

If we don’t sort out our issues soon we’ll end the season like North did in 2016.

Anything other than a top 4 spot will be a disaster given the way we started the season.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
