Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

where are all the people that are like 'we recruited Ben Brown for a reason, he's a 60 goal a year goalkicker' etc. Yeah no. If he isn't doing it in the vfl, he ain't doing it in the afl.

So based on today. He'll need a few more weeks out.

IN: Weideman, Melksham, Bowey

OUT: Sparrow, Pickett, Hunt

Kozzy needs a rest he's burnt out and you can't bring Brown in off a 3 disposal, 0 marks, 0 goals performance.

I think Melksham has to come in as we clearly need more goal scoring power. Chandler would be a good alternative however, I don't think his latest performaces have warranted selection.

I would also seriously consider dropping Viney and building up his confidence in the VFL. He is a serious liability for us out there at the moment. He is laboring around the ground and can't hit a target to save his life. I fear due to the foot injuries he will lack leg speed for the rest of his career.

Unless he was injured it seems the MFC earmarked Ben Brown to come into the team with his limited game time.

Bowey is in great form and would love to see him in the side but hard to displace someone in the back half. Unlikely to debut in a high pressure 8 point game against Port either.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Melksham given another run. He may not be the player he was in 2018 but he is just about the best person we've got to deliver into forward 50.

Is it time to rest Oliver? In the Gus and Gawny podcast it was mentioned that most Wednesdays they don't know if he will get up for the game and we pick emergencies incase he doesn't play. We've just come off a bye so he had a week off but without knowing exactly what's wrong it's hard to say.

  • Demonland changed the title to CHANGES: Rd 17 vs Port Adelaide

If you were Ben Brown and you’d been tapped on the shoulder for Thursday’s game, the last place you’d want to be is Casey at night.

If this is the case, it’s a truly bizarre decision to plonk him on the bench on a freezing cold Saturday night to manage his load.

Footballers want to play and the narrative around him was he needed game time to get touch and fitness.

I wonder if he’s carrying an injury?

If not, this weekend will not help his performance one bit.

Thats not a great repprt re bb.

Has he been tapped for Thursday?

If not we are back to weid again.

My goodness. Maybe mitch b is the answer.

I dont have any.

We are still 12. 3 but we have a non functioning fwd line.

I hope we can remedy it very soon.

Disappointing loss but, when you boil it all down, if we kick straight we win. TMac is the big worry for me. We badly need him to find his goal kicking mojo again.

I love Trac but he has to slot that goal. Dusty wouldn’t have missed. Or Toby Greene.

The Port game takes on huge significance now. Win and we put 2 games between us and them. Lose and we’re back in the pack fighting for Top 4.

I’m still confident we can win over there. Our defence is so good it will keep us in the game but we must convert our chances. BB has to come into the side. His goal kicking is his key strength. And I wouldn’t be against bringing Melks back into the team either. Our delivery was ordinary yesterday and he would definitely improve us in this area. I’m very aware of his defensive deficiencies but we need to add some class and poise.

I’d bring Weid in for Pickett

Pickett needs a rest I reckon and Weid seems to have played well in the 2’s for the last fortnight

Jonas (6’ 2”), Aliir(6’ 4”) and McKenzie (6’ 3”) would need to keep Weid (6’ 4”), Fritsch (6’ 2”) and Jackson/TMac (6’ 6”/6’ 4”) quiet all night

Out - one of Harmes/Sparrow/Viney (in that order)

Other than “old and busted” vs “new hotness”, what’s the rationale of dropping Harmes before Sparrow?

I'm not sure what the answer is but one problem we do have atm is too many bull's in the paddock. Oliver. Petracca. Viney. Jordon. Harmes. Sparrow. We need some outside winners.

Bit harsh on the other average players there.  He is in the same league as the other rugby player that played for the suns somebody Hunt.

Harmes frustrated me yesterday, got caught on his left and held up momentum, handballed other teammates into trouble and dropped a couple of easy marks.

Harmes played a crucial role through the middle when we looked good in patches in 2nd half

He was wasted in the forward line earlier

Is Nibbler any good?

I think he is B-grade, and has punched well above his weight for years.  I'm sure i'll be reminded of his 'fitness'.  Well eff that, can the bloke hit a target, make a quick decision and not get pinged for htb.

In Brown, Melksham, Bedford (but suspect this will be AVB)

Out Sparrow, Viney, Spargo

It could be Spargo or Pickett but I will still take Picketts 41 pressure acts over the last 2 weeks to Spargos 18. Suspect AVB will find his way in there somehow but we need more. Would not be surprised if we drop Harmes over Viney.

Jackson Rivers Sparrow Kozzie Jordan Petty all played under 30 games, form will vary and don’t have multiple seasons and pre-seasons into their bodies.

Looking at forward line, really seem to be missing a Hawkins, Cameron, Lynch, Naughton or Dixon type.

Teams that win grand finals usually have some very hard or outright dirty players. Hawks think Lewis/Mitchell/Hodge (Clarkson) Tigers Nankervis/Cotchin and most of the team are dirty (Hardwick coached taught by Sheedy).

Looking at these three categories, ins and outs for me:

In: VDB hard as nails, skills ordinary, but some  players make teammates walk taller, e.g. Giants are a much better team when Mumford plays.

In: BBB give him 4 -5 weeks, at least he kicks straight, will earn some frees, take some heat of TMac & Fritsch, will bring ball down for crumbers. At least with a 4-5 game stint it’s enough of a crack to know.

In: Melksham drives me nuts but has the skills for inside 50 connections, good kick for goal, sounds like had a crack in twos last week, and 5 tackles last night.

Out: Kozzie lost his zip/sparkle give him two weeks out one off one at Casey

Out: Sparrow let him keep building this year, Casey games won’t hurt him.

Out: Viney running up and down on the spot, a week out or at Casey. He just needs to build over the next 3-4 weeks.

For all the arm flapping and end of the world types that thrive when the Demons lose, we are close, we’re only three straight kicks off 14-1. But to win finals and a GF, it feels like we must have:

- extra tall in forward line

- extreme hardness in a VDB ( I still can’t believe I’m selecting him, as skills are big ordinary)

- not too many youngsters and freshen up ones who can make a diffference, e.g. Kossi

- kick straighter, that’s why I’d have BBB & Melksham in team.

Think Jordon has dropped off because he’s been replaced by Viney, get him back around the footy and he will be fine.

He offers a good point of difference to our other mids because he is accountable and tackles

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
