Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Very hard to when the opposition defenders mark everything. We needed a big key forward to contest and bring the ball to ground if he couldn't mark it.

In that last quarter the Giants were out on their feet and we bombed it in and out it came, because we had no big key forward to contest or to kick it to.

Even with all of the above, even while we got smashed in the clearances,  a tall forward would have given us a chance to win..

If their was a positive to come out of today it's that our experiment with no primary Full Forward is over.

Bring him in (BBB) and keep him in until the end of the our campaign.

Just now, Jaded said:

I thought their midfield was much better than ours. Their backline defended really well and if we had a poorer backline they would have won by a lot more.
To say they were ordinary today is harsh. They are massive chokers and it’s totally our fault for not putting our foot down early on to make them fall apart.  But when they get going they are classy footy users and have a lot of good players.

Agree, they played more consistently than us like they’re a ‘good’ team, but that’s their limit. They’re pushing top 8 on a good day. No real threat to better teams, of which of course we are no longer..

If Petracca or Oliver are well held or just off we are in big trouble at the moment.

Our midfield just doesn't bat deep enough. Jordon, Harmes, Sparrow and Viney are OK but inferior to a star-studded midfield like GWS.

Extremely disappointed with Petracca and Oliver. These guys are supposed to 2 of the top half dozen midfielders and in the best dozen players on the game but they can’t win a clearance if their life depended on it after the bye. They are seriously looking like frauds and pretenders.

I am incredibly angry about today!

The Demons were very poor. The Giants were very slick and were hungrier and wanted to win more than us.

We fumbled, made turnovers, made execution errors and it was absolutely not good enough.

Why the hell we didn't play Big Benny Brown as Full Forward is beyond me. The weather today was a perfect cold day! At least we would have someone to kick to and who could kick straight!

Anyway, a lot of soul-searching is required by the Demons players and the coaching staff if they are serious about finishing in the top 4.

Playing group that has gotten ahead of themsleves...even though they have achieved nothing. Playing like a team that has won the last 2 flags and think they can save themsleves for September.

We won games by applying pressure around the ball and giving quality looks to our forwards. Seem to have put that in the too hard basket again. We simply do not have the talent in the forward line to score unless it is coming in fast with the opposition on the back foot.

They smashed us in the middle, dominated groundball, applied heaps of pressure.

and we fell for it. Tried to do too much all day.  Missed the first option, ran second to too many contests.  Bad day at the office for many today.  No winners forward of the ball.  I 50 was appalling.

Lucky to be as close as we were.  Felt like 6 goal loss if you didn’t peek at the scoreboard.

I'm too disappointed to bother reading through 7 pages of reasons we lost.  The last quarter showed us that we need a tall forward. Ben Brown kicks two goals for the match and we win. He brings the ball to ground a coouple of times in the last and we win the game. How many times did we go inside 50 and see the ball come straight back out? We had nothing to kick to. Hunt got caught because he had nowhere to go. We lost the game on Thursday.

Blessed are they who learn from 'the learnings', for they will see the light and give us a full forward to kick to.

Buggered are those that don't, for they are doomed to make the same mistakes over and over again.

GO DEES!

Over to you now Coaches end the experiment and do the correct thing by the team.

Disappointing, but not a catastrophe. We played like poo and still could have snatched it if not for missed opportunities galore, especially in the last.

Hunt had a dip and used his best attribute. The downside of “be a good teammate”? Both the htbs in the pockets were pass attempts that should have been flying shots on goal. He may also have just been gassed.

Surely VINEY is gone.

Most overrated footballer.

Offers nothing, absolute momentum killer. Poor disposal by foot and hand.

Ruins team lineup and balance.

Because we have a love affair with the name VINEY we move others Gus and Harmes from their best position to ensure he has a spot because he can't player anywhere else but the centre square.

Someone please help me understand what he offers in out team.

Should have taken the pick when Geelong wanted him.

Don’t get the hate for Petty. Played on Himmelberg who is a very good player and kept him to 1 goal.
Sometimes supporters can’t see the forest from the trees. He is not an issue. He’s doing as well as can be expected for a kid who played 11 games going into this season. Eleven. He’s holding down CHB. I repeat. Eleven.
Move on. Nothing to see here.

'Hate' That is pathetic. Players above criticism now?

Nearly every time Petty goes near a contest he panics. I get he's young but he's had 4 bad games in a row. Makes some dumb decisions and it seems to me he is over thinking things. Needs to play more on instinct.

Himmleberg may not have kicked a lot of goals but Petty was in a lot of contests where the ball wasn't killed and their players did what they liked.

V good summary. Would add that we went back to the 'Bees to the honeypot' style where the ball would come out of a contest and they would pick it off.

Very disappointing game. first half was the lowest pressure rating we have had all year.

Spot on. And those bagging Pickett need to explain what he had to crumb to. (Answer: nothing and so it will remain until we select a key forward to make a contest.)

Some of the supporters walking out of the ground cursing and blaming Hunt have no idea about football I’m afraid. Utterly a more pathetic effort than the display of the team today.

Thank you ❤️?

I heard similar from our “supporters” and yes, they’re blowing off steam but show a little respect by saying sh*t like that quietly amongst yourselves.

I agree 100%. I have never seen him to be anything but an average footballer. His name has carried him the entire way. I admire his effort but every point you make is valid.

Not sure whether the coaching staff thought it would rain but a misfire not playing a key forward.

16 mins into the last quarter (noted the time) we were streaming into the forward line and it was all set up for a leading BB. Instead, we looked like boys against men and requiring a fluke goal.
As close as we got, didn’t deserve it.

Lets hope the normal script of falling of the cliff isn't follow & hate to say but many supporters/members will be thinking the same and our record against teams below us both present/past seasons have been crap we have 7 games left with 3 interstate Port, WC, GC and that horrible place Geelong and play Dogs, Hawks & Crows.

All of a sudden question marks are starting to pop up???

We are.

And yet 4 weeks ago we beat Brisbane and Bulldogs reasonably well. Not sure about flaky, but we are certainly in a form slump, 1 win from last 3 games.

The positive is that we are 12/3 and we know our deficiencies are midfield clearances and a forward line lacking key targets. Address this before finals and we are NOT pretenders

What a stupid comment ! Another mid? We need a forward ie BBb to put pressure on their smaller defence  look Dumb  decision not to play Benny.

Your comment highlights your complete lack of understanding of the game. We have a midfield that can't kick, struggle to win a clearance and make poor decisions.  Our mids are all the same player type Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Jordan, Sparrow, Harmes  there is no smarts in there just grunt.  Our forwards didn't get a chance today as our mids were completely smashed.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
