Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

And the Club needs to stop putting out these videos of players mic’d up at training. Unless they show some players actually working on their obvious deficiencies, and not frolicking around like they have actually achieved anything! Big heads on big pay packets, and it counts for squat! I am sick and tired of being promised that this is the year, and failing again. Unless we can turn this around, 5th is the best we can hope for. And looking at the rest of the draw a good chance we could play Essendon in the first week. And you reckon they wouldn’t relish that! Bitterly disappointing, but not surprised.

Well that was bloody frustrating. We didn’t handle the pressure and where bad in the contest with disposal= turnovers.
Suck it up and focus on next week boys.

When you lose by under two goals of course it can be argued that Ben Brown could have been the difference today. But this loss was on the midfield. They got smashed today. One of the worst games I’ve been from Trac and Oliver. Harmes his usual wasteful self. Viney a non starter.

Agree with all of that, but having a 203 cm proven forward, who can at least bring it to ground if he doesn’t grab it, does several things for the team,.

It stops the opposition defenders marking it every time and playing on and scoring.
It brings Pickett and Spargo into the contest.
It takes pressure off Fritta and Tom Mac.
It straightens up the mids going forward, eliminating some of the sideways ball mistakes at the same time.
It gives us a better chance of a forward 50 mark and goal, especially when a tall Defender goes off early in the game and then late in the game, when the opposition are out on their feet and we are bombing it forward without success.

-15 In clearances

More scoring shots. More inside 50s. More contested possessions. One less free kick.

This is all on the midfield and [censored] kicking for goal, again

That’s a horrible stat for us. Beaten at our own game. Analysis required there it would seem

We haven't been playing good football for over a month now and the Giants just wanted it more. A bit of the pressure is off our backs now. I'm happy sitting in second place, the Dogs are playing like a side deserving of top spot. Also GWS have now put Richmond out of the 8 for now, and come finals time I know who I'd rather be playing. Perhaps maybe a bit of a silver lining.

Dont rate Brown or Weids but want kick many winning scores with our current set up let alone finals, need to role the dice with at least one of them.

Kossie is a great talent but needs to be dropped  to find form

Mids were beaten badly, 15 less clearances, 5 less centre clearances,10 less stoppage clearances and hit outs less 3...

I totally agree with you. I’ve been on the “bring Ben Brown” train all week. I’m still stuck in the city loop tho.

We did have more inside 50 entries so there’s no doubt we could have won with better forwards up there. But we also won a lot of games this year with the same forward set up. The difference for me today was how badly our midfield was outplayed.

Petty and pickett 4 bad games in a row.

Oliver 3 terrible qtrs

Petracca FFS stop drinking your bathwater

Selection table terrible

Viney,  go back and find some form and fitness

Brayshaw a nightmare

Our first 2qtrs pressure was our lowest for the year.

Unacceptable. Why can't Goodwin get them up for the start of games? Been a problem for a long while now.  You know within 10m if they are switched on.

Geez they are a hard team to follow. They test your loyalty every farkling week

Was at the game. We were comically bad. For those who’ve been defending our ability to score, I’d love to hear the next iteration of that defence. Our current form is somewhere outside the top 8. We know and have seen that we can be so much better, but we have serious issues that truly make us a finals liability. We are currently nowhere near being a contender. Other than Bailey Fritsch, and Tmac’s efforts outside the forward 50 (what one of the best drop punt kick’s for goal was doing kicking ‘around the corner’ from 30 metres out on a 45 degree angle simply has no answer), our forward line has gone from simply dysfunctional to horribly so. Also, to those who were suggesting Fritsch comes out for Brown, I seriously hope you’ve learned your lesson. And our kicking, well…..As for the rest of our game, once Tracc and Clarrie went quiet, our lack of midfield depth was badly exposed, and we offered up pretty much uncontested swill. And Jayden Hunt, who took the game on like he was trying to spark the rest, well done. You are not the problem. Ben Brown may help, but just as Hunt was not the problem today, BBB is not the answer. Once again, whilst admitting that confidence is a fragile, elusive thing, and could return, I suspect we might just be pretenders.

Yes our mids were pantsed but i think its unfair to dismiss bb after only three games of which two were ok unlike viney.

Don’t get the hate for Petty. Played on Himmelberg who is a very good player and kept him to 1 goal.
Sometimes supporters can’t see the forest from the trees. He is not an issue. He’s doing as well as can be expected for a kid who played 11 games going into this season. Eleven. He’s holding down CHB. I repeat. Eleven.
Move on. Nothing to see here.

Also, just for AFL journos...

Today wasn't a MASSIVE UPSET as the AFL website is proclaiming.

I'll wear that Collingwood and the Crows were upsets.

The Giants are top 8 material and devastating at their best.

It's almost like they are ready to launch into a 'Melbourne are flaky' narrative already.

Firstly we are probably not as good as we thought we were.

We have not blown out any teams this year, are getting off to slow starts EVERY week, and relying on coming back.

We have been putting Williams and Yze up on a pedestal this year, but I wonder what the impact they have on these games we drop? Seems to be when we lose, it's Goodwins fault, when we win it's Williams and Yze having a great impact around the club.

We all hate losing these games we should win, and I guess we all want answers why. Hope our coaching team can work together to get us firing in every part of the ground.

We have become a little shaky.

Our football IQ is starting to be a problem. We have a high IQ back line and wings. Our midfield and forwards are as dumb as you can find on an AFL list. Max is smart too. Too many times this year dumb decision making and a lack of understanding of where the game is at has left us looking stupid. Why we wait to the last quarter to try and win certain games I don’t understand. We now look to have lost any confidence forward as well as being a bunch of morons. The weird decision making firward of centre feels like over coaching. Our players look hell bent on holding space and no intent to get the ball and score. We had the game under controL in the first quarter but almost went out of our way to to score. It looked weird at the ground. We could have take a three goal lead early and controlled the game from there if we had any intent.

Harmes has his positives but has to be one of the dumbest footballers alive

We are officially in average form.

looking at the big picture, I’d much prefer to be out of form now than in August. We have 12 wins in the bank, no injuries and 7 weeks to get back into form

We are very midfield heavy with our current selected side. But we have far too many like players who don’t do enough. Trac, Oliver and JJ all provide strong points of difference but Harmes, Sparrow and Viney all so much of the same. Which is not a hell of a lot.

Anyone putting blame on Hunt for trying a bit too hard to win us the game after everyone else did SFA all day needs to sit in a corner.

Some of the supporters walking out of the ground cursing and blaming Hunt have no idea about football I’m afraid. Utterly a more pathetic effort than the display of the team today.
At least the coaches tried something with Hunt forward and Gus back in the last. It didn’t work but they had to do something. It tells you some of our forwards weren’t anywhere near it today.
Untimely game was lost in the middle today.

We cannot expect to win games when we’ve got players in the forward line contributing nothing. Spargo, Pickett & ANB all did nothing today. Unfortunately the gap between their best and their worst is massive.

Are we getting big heads.

Where was that final quarter effort in the first half?

Need to play with endeavour and desperation right from the start.

So many times they broke tackles.

Where has our clean ball handling gone?

Some passengers in the team.

A confused Hunty, is he forward or back? Where were the regular small forwards?

I like our game when we go fast. That should happen more during the early parts and then have tempo control. We are not playing to our strengths.

Defensive structures are still working, and until the opposition works out how to pierce them, we will be there about. (Thought Petty did well, especially in the first half.)

Good play Max, Langdon, Salem, Fritta, River, May, Lever, Jackson.

Hoping we fix up our conversion from the inside 50's.

Set shots need work.

Yep to throw Hunt forward after a year of playing and training down back and expect him to win the game just says how little faith we had in the rest of the forwards we selected.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
