Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yep Petty was poor today, not clean too many mistakes. Reads it very well but caused dangerous turnovers too often. Hunt could not have played worse in the last quarter. Have no idea what he was thinking.

Hunt was obviously sent forward with instructions to take the game on, which he did . Playing a role he hasn't done all year we where chasing the game, shouldn't have been in that position

More inside 50s than score.

It’s a bit of a shame - due to Covid - that we had to play a 2019/20 era repeat instead of actually playing the game.

I assume that this team that is 12 and 2 wouldn’t regress and devolve back to that…

(Cough)

Im sorry but that was an arrogant sekection.

So many of us were howling about our inept forward line but nothing happens.

We deserved it.

Now maybe goody will wake yp.

After the fact but hey thats why he gets the big bucks.

If the 2 that hit the post go win we win. But the concern is we’ve not played well for a while but still won ugly.

Are we missing Melksham’s delivery into the f50?

BBB may be a round plug in a square hole in terms of the system but as others have said, we are not scoring enough and have a goal scorer in the 2s

First time  this season we've been outcoached.

We played into their hands in the first half underestimating their midfield. Kelly, Whitfield, Green, Tarranto, Hopper, Ward, etc  are better than our midfield. All well and good to have an extra number back but we lost at the source and GWS were able to spot up  one of the best one on one players in the comp. Greene's three first half goals were huge.

We woke up to this too late.

Petracca, Oliver, Harmes, Brayshaw and Langdon were great in the last quarter but were hardly seen in the first half.

Petty worries me.

Viney is not right and was a liability today.

Kozzy didn't touch it.

Goalkicking was costly, especially kick around corners.

Hunt will get crticised for three holding the ball decisions against him in the last but he at least took it on.

May and Salem were good all game.

Fritta was mostly excellent

When you lose by under two goals of course it can be argued that Ben Brown could have been the difference today. But this loss was on the midfield. They got smashed today. One of the worst games I’ve been from Trac and Oliver. Harmes his usual wasteful self. Viney a non starter.

3 losses to clubs in the bottom half of the ladder?  WTF . Is this what we can expect, getting pants by bottom teams  ? Are we a team that can’t be bothered to show up in these sorts of games ? No wonder Dees supporters are nervous from week to week . We know them so well !

Lost at the selection table. Why play Sparrow if you don't trust him with 55% game time. Surely Brown plays next week?

Pickett and Spargo look woefully out of form at the moment. Witches hats in forward 50

Spargo and Pickett need a tall forward to rove off.

The Ben Brown non selection was a mistake in hindsight.

Disappointing, but the problems are at least remediable. Furthermore, GWS are a good opposition and my hats go off to them. Their legs must have been burning in that last quarter, and they kept tackling, harassing and getting back.

Firstly, Brown (Mitch, Ben or get the Brisbane captain away from his radio gigs if you must) needs to come in. If you want to play a small forward line, your little blokes need to be up and about. Sparg and Pickett were unsighted today.

In that case, plan B is your lead up forwards need to be getting marks.

My question is: do we have a lead up forward? Look at my post early in the game day thread when I previewed the game. Pretty much everything I highlighted today cost us the win.

It's my policy not to cut promos on players during games, but I picked my phone up to log on here and give an almighty expletive ridden spray after the last two times Jaidyn Hunt got called holding the ball. Luckily, I thought better of it.

Hunt's spot should come under consideration after those three fluff ups in the forward fifty. He needs to disabuse himself of the notion that he is Usain Bolt, and look at Ed Langdon as a role model. Langdon has toe, but he also has nous these days. If he is hemmed in, he has a decent idea of who he can beat, and when the situation is hopeless. Hunt unfortunately has a tendency to try to turn the afterburners on and ends up with exhaust backfire.

Positives to come out of the game were our ability to fix clearances up after half time, and May and Lever. Those two are worth their weight in gold. Salo did not waste a kick, showed why he got a 5 year deal, and will get Brownlow votes for that game.

BUT....

Their role is not to consistently launch counter attacks and set  up our scoring opportunities. We were spending all our petrol tickets going from end to end, when we would have been better off competing better at center bounces and stoppages.

There is work to do. I'm disappointed, but the issues are fixable. That is as so long as Goody hasn't now got some type of ND/Chris Lamb or Mick Malthouse/Mark McGough 'set' against BBB, and is willing to admit his mistake in leaving him out.

Not going to throw the baby out but geez that was an ordinary performance with selective intensity.

Lever May and Fritsch and Gawn about the only ones that can hold their heads high, T-Mac as well save for his shots on goal.

Just about everyone [censored] the bed when it came to goal kicking today. How many snaps skewed off the boot that should have been routine kicks?

Midfield needs some serious work. It's been an issue for a while now and our defence has limited the damage but its going to cost us finals if we don't work it out.

The Port game is our biggest H&A game in years IMO.

Port have generally played their worst footy against the top sides and we've played our best. If we win, we're nearly eliminating them from the race and reminding the competition we're not done with yet. If we lose, we go down to 5th and it's pretty much curtains for Top 4 with the tough road trips to come. Moreover, a loss would confirm our worst fears that we're not actually good enough to win it.

Of course, their most valuable player is already scheduled to make a miracle return after he was "indefinite" five days ago and spend what seems like many months on the sidelines.

MFCSS is at its highest levels since Cairns. Prove me wrong Melbourne.

Not cool. Didn't come to play in the first half. Raised the intensity in the second, didn't execute.

Not a total disaster but I do think we're a little ways off being genuine flag contenders.

Our intensity has been mia for a few first halves.

Actually our first loss at the G this year.

Feel sorry for everyone who went and had to walk home but at least they have no foul mouthed supporters to wish us well.

Thought Fritz was going to win it off his own boot....did very well today

We will just have to beat Geelong at the Cattery now.....(instead of managing players)

Another ugly win would have covered the cracks again, you cannot pick and choose when to go in this league.

personnel changes is required, our midget forward line isn’t working, our star midfield aren’t hard enough when required.

changes next week and a brutal [censored] review Goodwin

[censored] I’m annoyed!! At that pathetic effort.

Your first sentence nails it. Last week papered over cracks but were there for all to see today.

Disconnect into forward line.

Defence brilliant again but couldn't do any more.

Small forwards ineffective with spargo the only one with football I Q

Oliver going backwards in effectiveness

Viney couldn't play out game.

Poor conversion rate costs games. Single most important kpi.

No more domination of the corridor

So let me get this straight - Hunt is to blame for his dare and run that ended with him failing to find a target??

This one is on Goodwin and co. - as good as they have been - if Hunt is your engine - work within his limitations and give him someone to kick long to.

Fritsch is not a FF and yet we are trying to play this cute game on the counterattack that won’t cut it in finals and is now being found out by also rans.

I thought we could keep top 2 but now we must see if we can stay in the 4 or this start will be utterly wasted. Simply wasted.

8 point game next week.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
