Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not the craziest....(sorry if there's a designated DL-er who starts these - didn't mean to cut your lunch).

Via BomberBlitz.

  • Must bring in Snelling. Give him a role to tag Salem. So much of Melbourne’s ball movement goes through him. Hooker needs to be better than what he showed today; May will give him a bath otherwise. Stringer will probably get tagged by Hibberd. Can see Oliver and Petracca v Merrett and parish unfolding with not much defensive attention. Hope Draper is able to back up today’s superb performance. Hope the Dees give Weideman another game, and either Laverde or Francis can give him a towelling up. Give Redman the job on Fritsch. Great test against the Dees on Saturday.
  • Send these snooty twats to the ski fields.
  • Playing Melbourne is a great opportunity to see where we’re really at. I’m looking forward to it.
  • They’re the top of the ladder team at virtually full strength (minus Tomlinson?). I’m pretty sure they’ll get Viney back this week. They’re also fresh off the bye vs us on 6 day break coming back from Tassie (not that it’s a huge trip at all).
  • We can win one, or even both [Ed other being Geelong next round]. Melbourne are more likely, and l see signs of the beginnings of their brittle self doubt emerging. It is a common affliction every season, and is very apparent when the ski season opens.
  • We’re so winning this match.
  • No bombing forward otherwise May and Lever will have a field day interceptingLow/scrubber type kicks when entering forward
  • I don’t rate Melbourne. I think we are a huge chance
  • I just worry about their midfield contested beasts that will push Merrett and Parish to the side
  • Melbourne still have it in them to completely Essington their season. I’d love for us to get the ball rolling.
  • Melbourne are slowly showing signs of going full Melbourne… it’s winnable but need to be cleaner than tonight.
  • I back us in Pies were able to beat them
  • We always think we’re a chance against the Dees.We got close last year and we were rubbish.I’m looking at this game as a free hit. No expectations. Just try and protect the %.
  • The problem we will potentially have against Melbourne is how well they are defending the field when not in possession.
  • If Melbourne can so easily stop the Bulldogs from playing their preferred game, how are we going to go ?
  • Personally, I don’t rate Melbourne as a Flag Favourite. Would have four other teams ahead of them on that count. Take out May and Lever’s influence and they will struggle. A lot of Dollar Shop forwards should not bother our defenders and we can match their mids even with the likes of Shiel, McGrath and Caldwell missing.
  • I’m usually quite lid-off but we are probably kidding ourselves to think we can win this one. I think we’ll do ourselves proud with effort and we might even go close, but more likely there will be a couple of periods where they score a few quick ones against us and we just can’t recover.

The constant references to the ski season is reflective of their lack of creativity

However I particularly liked this one

No bombing forward otherwise May and Lever will have a field day intercepting Low/scrubber type kicks when entering forward

What mental giant came up with that - one can only hope its one of their coaching staff

I love the implication that our players go downhill during the ski season. (pun not intended, just emerged).  Either the poster thinks our players bugger off to the ski fields, or they vastly over-estimate the importance of our supporters on the players' performance.

Shouldn't this be titled 'What they are saying at Tullamarine'?

What was said at Windy Hill was the bowls club telling them to [censored] off.

Hopefully the boys smash the confidence out of their supporters.

Essington from Reddit..

Basically when we play really bad footy for a prolonged duration, we are referred to as Essington by our supporters. I believe it was an in joke that started on BomberBlitz during the Knights era.

Trivia question:

When was the last time Essendon won a final without Kevin Sheedyas coach?

Clue:

Kevin Sheedy had only recently started playing at the time.

A fantastic question - and insightful.

I reckon its 1968?   Prelim Final vs Cats  . Then lost GF to Blues.

Coached by the great ken fraser I think.

53 Years - and counting.

Mark Neeld that one, he's got his eyes on a return to coaching, passing messages to his old mates at the Bombers

“Yeah he’s had a very unusual career Tom McDonald.

For the first 6 or 7 years he was quite a serviceable, if not a little error prone, as a key defender.

Then in 2018 he gets deployed as a permanent key forward and plays like The Terminator and boots 53 goals as they march to a preliminary final. They promptly sign him up to a multi year big dollar deal

Then he follows it up with two years of absolute utter garbage in 2019 and 2020.

Now after Melbourne viewing his contract as a noose around their neck and trying to offload him all of a sudden in 2021 he’s back to his 2018 self again haha.

I think there would have been clubs (us included) that would have been open to the idea of giving him a go but you just couldn’t in all conscience have paid him 700k/year off the back of two horrible seasons. Even if the Dees were willing to kick in 100-200k.”

I loved the bit about playing like the terminator

In fairness, I don’t disagree with a lot of what has been said by their supporters. I too see a massive slump coming. We reverted to selfish, Uninspiring football against Collingwood and I think the mental fragility of a few was on show. Happy to be proven wrong and I hope some home truths were spoken over the break. Viney back in helps, as we have been smashed at centre clearances. We need to be right on from the start.

Going into the game without a key forward is playing into their hands. They have a rubbish backline, but I don’t think we will expose it. For those saying it’s going to rain, the night looks pretty clear. Most of the moisture in the morning.

What a deeluded bunch of A grade flogs, the skiing references are so primary school mentality, its actually a badge of honour.

Anything to boost their confidence, oppo supporters are really starting to harp on about ski season, we must be good.

They really don't know what there missing.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
