Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I wouldn't be surprised if the club does not pursue a later Alice Springs game.

The GWS game is too short notice.

Hawks won't have a bar of playing in the NT. Plus that would mean 3 consecutive weeks of travel to Adelaide - NT - Gold Coast.

No chance they'd move a potential Friday night MCG blockbuster against the Dogs to a 5,000 crowd.

The Adelaide home game is a possibility but that would mean we'd be playing in Perth - Alice Springs - Geelong to end the season. We can't afford the players to be fatigued coming into finals.

Let's write off the NT game, and be disappointed that the state of NT didn't provide any flexibility or finances considering it was them that cancelled the game, not us.

I wonder how much success will drive uplift in memberships (including GFGs) and therefore improve the bottom line next year. Keep winning games and the rest will take care of itself: sponsorship, Friday Night Lights blockbuster Boy Gee Wow games and more home games at the G against the big dogs - RFC, CFC, Cats, Bombers.

Agreed best to write off, especially heading into pointy end of the season.

Sad but these are not normal times.

Is it even feasible for Goschs's Paddock to be "expanded" to become MCG-sized? Is there the space to do that?

In one of the other threads I remember an enterprising Dlander put up a map of Goschs with a MCG oval overlay . If I remember correctly it was orientated differently to the current oval but I thought at the time it looked very feasible.

Agree.

It's almost certainly not going to happen, and that's fine.

Pert mentioned how important it was for the club to get its Melbourne-based fans back into stadiums to see us play. I think the club sees the benefit to membership and fan engagement that our good year is having and is going to try to pump that as much as possible rather than trying to muck around, assuming crowds are back in Melbourne at least, in shifting a game up to the NT.

It was nice to hear our CEO on the front foot, gives you a nicer feeling after all the defensive stuff in 2020. Sounds positive about a new training track and eventual Home Base, I am starting to warm to the man. Well done Gary Pert..!!!!

Titan, I'm not sure of the plan that D was referring to, but the red cross on the map below shows the length and width of the MCG playing area (162m x 139m) overlaid on Gosch's. (Taken from Google Earth)

I was leery of the Pert appointment. This was mostly because I got the feeling that Bartlett got him in there as part of some power struggle with PJ. Furthermore, my brother (who is mad Collingwood) reviewed him poorly. According to him, his go to move was to keep talking up the team as a premiership chance every year when even Perty knew that wasn’t the case, especially between ‘14-‘17.

My feeling now is that a club like Melbourne is a good fit. Our supporters aren’t as demanding and the spotlight we are in aren’t 1/4 of Collingwood’s. This means Perty can keep his power dry, and avoid hyperbole. There is also the likelihood that he probably identified his shortcomings over the last few years at the ‘Pies and is rectifying them at Melbourne.

I was glad he spoke about bringing new supporters into the club. In his early pressers, he seemed to be leaning into the ‘get lapsed members back’ stance when the reality is that there is no more blood left in that stone. Plus demographic change will see that generation pass away soon.

I was excited about the facility announcement but it sounds like it’ll be in the Gosch’s paddock district. Is there actually enough space to build anything there? Has Jolimont been ruled out unequivocally?

I’m also disappointed that now a social club is being developed, deeluded is no longer posting. He’d be positively rapturous over this.

Fair point.  The Hawthorn of the mid 2010's would scoff at the suggestion of being sent to NT as the away team.

Anyway the point stands that I doubt the club would be interested in being on the road 3 weekends in a row. Adelaide then Alice then Gold Coast.

As Pert touched on, it's time the club re-engages with the faithful at the G and therefore Alice Springs can wait until next year.

With the Vic government allowing only members into the game at Geelong tonight, I can see this trend continuing when footy is back in metro Melbourne. That makes home games at the G exceptionally important as it gives the club a chance to sell 2/3 game special memberships to enable more fans through the gates.
We are one of the few clubs who could also still offer grand final guarantee memberships (thanks to low membership numbers), and with the side looking strong, this is a golden opportunity to get back some of the lost revenue from those games and hope to convert these late sign-on members into full members in 2022 and beyond.

that's cos the hawks of the mid-2010s continued to 'sell' four games a year to tasmania throughout the entire decade and made a motza out of it thanks to a deal that, from memory ian dicker, did in 2001 that kennett took credit for achieving for the last 20 years, to the tune of about $50m for four games per year in launceston

by comparison we get around $1m for two games a year in the nt

Surely we have a new episode for any future seies of Utopia. The opening scene would be at Goschs paddock as the best brains at MFC ponder for years and at great expense where to find an AFL standard  training oval. Second scene would be at Casey where the same people ponder the same question while gazing at the Casey Oval.

Thanks NC so we now know that a MCG sized training ground will fit with a remodel of surrounding areas. Thanks for that.

This is fantastic news regarding the new home base. Gosch's paddock upgrade should be good, great that we will be staying in the precinct long term you would imagine, feel proud to be involved with this club. Well done Gary Pert great interview.

This isn't the one I was referring to but in many ways it's better. If memory serves, I think it has been mentioned that the carpark identified by DeeSpencer is proposed as the building site.

Gosch’s only requires a slight reconfiguration to fit an MCG sized oval, the current multi sport rectangular field areas and plenty of room to replace and even increase the number of trees.

We can build predominantly on the existing car park and utilities area. Then move the oval in front of the building similar to Collingwood.

The existing oval can be converted to 2.5 rectangular fields for the storm, victory Etc

I wonder whatbStorm  and Victory would think about that.

Though Storm  are doing something out Wyndham way, I think.

Melbourne Rebels involved, too,.

Both Storm (fantastic organisation to be fair) and Victory are jonny come latelys. We're the oldest football team in the world. No club has a stronger claim to be based at our spiritual home in the MCG precinct than we do.

Rebels could be disbanded tomorrow and no one would notice.

The actual MCG ground dimensions fence to fence (that is including boundaries) are approximately 174m east to west and 145m north to south. So there’s a title more  ground to be squeezed in!

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
