Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A couple of reporters tried to get Goody to answer on Weid and B Brown this week during this morning’s media conference. Did not give much away, not that we should expect much much from pressers, but Goody did mention Brown is still building his game and looking better and better all the time.
Is that enough to be included for Saturday night on the back of a 5-6 week mini preseason and no competitive matches for over a month?

Weid might be omitted, not sure if it’s for Brown.

Assuming there's a Casey game you might be right.

Playing Mitch Brown is the conservative play or even Bedford.

On the other hand Brown has now "been building" for 11-12 weeks so you wonder whether another week makes much difference.

We definitely could go smaller in the forward line if Weideman goes out. But we should go more like for like IMO i.e. more of a forward like Melksham or Chandler.

My thinking is that we have been playing with fewer numbers around the ball at stoppages this year, so we don't need as many midfielders. If the opposition push up a forward at the the stoppages, we are happy to leave Salem or Lever as loose defenders, so even if we lose the clearances we have structure behind the ball to win it back. If we are even numbered at the stoppages, we rely on Gawn, Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Harmes and Jordon to dominate the clearances.

I think Sparrow is a midfielder only at this stage. He lacks forward craft and so he is the most obvious out for Viney.

If they get enough supply inside 50 Tippa could tear us another new one.  They won't need many to win as we generally aren't a big scoring side.

Would rather win the clearances and the outside stoppage clearances this week vs the usual reliance on defence winning the day.

Their extra (forward) pushing up at stoppages needs to be covered off most if the time IMHO.

Even if we decide not to bring Brown in I think it sets a bad standard for selection picking Sam. I get he’s going through a rough trot with his confidence but how does it permeate through the entire list if they see players get gifted games on the back of absolutely useless performances. He’s had a month to get his mojo, if he isn’t able to get it by now then he should sent to the magoos to find it.

Mitch was next in line so if we want to maintain the structure then bring him in. Otherwise I think it’s a chance to have another go at the smaller forward line.

Going off that, I don't think Brown plays.

What makes you say that? I couldn't get a tell at all.

I just watched the presser that article was based on and goody gave no indication which way he'll go.

Did say the training session tbey were about to have (today) would be decisive.

Not selecting a Daw based on having forward/ruck covered is a strange way of thinking. Why would you bother to try you hardest in the reserves if are playing 2nd fiddle. I think Daw could become a Posidadly ( probably mis spelt ) who kicked many goals for the cats in their last premiership era.

I reckon Majak is much more dangerous in our forward line than Ben Brown

Given we're likely to bomb it on the head of whomever is down there, prefer it to be big Maj rather than BBB who's only real danger is lead/mark

I have a feeling they drop Weideman and we play with Tmac and Fritsch as the main forwards. BB will be made to prove his fitness at Casey I suspect.

If they don't play Ben Brown I'll be wondering why they recruited him. Essendon have no key defenders and Brown has a good record against them it would be madness not to play him considering they haven't given him an extended run while they gave Weideman an extended run.

How some of you actually rate Daw is beyond me

As in, you are unsure how some rate daw?

I reckon he is a good vfl player, who would likely be selected if jacko or gawn had to miss a game.

We're the fifth highest scoring team in the league. Bombers score less than a goal more than us a game.

Across the past 6 matches we’re the 9th highest scoring and have failed to crack 100 points. Our form has dropped off and we haven’t been a top four team statistically across the past 6 weeks. Both our offense and defense have been worked out to a degree and we’re now struggling to implement both with much fluency.

Across the same time period, Bombers are 6th highest scoring and pulled out a 140+ score. They’re in good offensive form. We need to be on our game to stop them. We’ve learnt from the Adelaide and Pies games that every game is loseable, doesn’t matter if they’re bottom four.

i wonder if, given the forecast, we might go 'small' with just viney in for weideman

alternatively, i remember the sydney game which was similar and sideshow bob and plugger mac were dominant with 7 of our 10 goals between them

i still lean towards...

OUT: weideman, sparrow
IN: viney, b brown

I think if its Ben or Weid or Mitch we need an extra tall in, although rain might play a part. I would play an extra tallit will allow Max to play down back a bit deeper. our strength has been our weakness in both games we have lost. Defence. We defended too deep, it allows short hit up kicks, i would want Max to drift down back when he can, deep, which will allow Lever to roam that 40-60ms out which takes away the short hit up.

Match ups for Stringer, AMT, Parish and Hind will be critical i reckon in this match. We simply must hard tag Parish.

This is a good point.  Need to exploit their weaknesses.  Might place pressure on them to swing Hooker back if BB got off the leash a little?

It's not like we've a dearth of skill to cover. Where's our What they're saying at Windy Hill thread. I imagine it's something like

  • How're we going to cover all of Viney, Oliver, Petracca, Langdon?
  • Who will Jack Viney make cry?
  • How will we get through Lever, May, Petty et al?

(I forgot to include the obligatory spelling mistakes).

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
