Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yep fair point, but I believe it's been mentioned they consider Fritsch as a tall. (I think it might have been Gawn that said that a couple of weeks ago but not 100% sure). Potentially they could go with TMac, Fritsch and then Gawn & Jackson rotating, similar to the first few rounds. It's a tough one, and we've had 3 different forward setups this year role wise so I don't think they've fully settled on it tbh.

I understand how big an asset Gawn is, but i'd love to see, for one game we just plonk him at Full Forward for a game, Jackson could take the ruck. i've got a feeling he'd be almost impossible down there over the course of 4 quarters.

Agree. Gawn just seems not 100% in the ruck this year, not sure if he's carrying an injury. At least 3 times this year in close games we've gone on a run when Gawn was on the bench and Jackson in the ruck. It changes our mix. We know our struggles with clearances this year also. Also think Gawn is a better forward than Jackson and Gawn's goal kicking seems to have improved.

I also think part of our clearance struggles has been the expected dominance not being met at times, because as you say Gawn isn't at his absolute best. when Jackson goes in there the mids just read the ball and we do seem to win it a bit more regularly.

definitely something the coaches could play with. even a 50/50 split in the ruck between the two could change the look of the game.

The club dropped the ball in dropping bbb in the first instance.

I understand why but with hindsight was the wrong call in replacing him with sw.

Only the club knows where bb is with form and fitness at present but if hes right to go no person could argue for sw instead of him.

A serious marking inability has crept into poor Sams game and we dont have the luxury of gifting him games in hopes that it will get better.

His confidence seems very low and the guy is struggling. Sadly the club has been very patient with him.

May be best for both parties to part ways at seasons end. Sw may get more games elsewhere and improve and we may get a great replacement.

At the time BBB looked a fair step off the pace of AFL footy, I think the decision at the time was right. Hopefully BBB is fitter now and can replace a struggling SW

Dr D thought BB should've been dropped after his first game. Not sure you're going to get a balanced discussion there.

It's Weideboy now is it? Weren't you celebrating the dropping of Ben Brown for a forward line with  Weideman in it v Adelaide, and telling the forum how you were two weeks ahead of everyone by saying BB should've been dropped after 1 game? ?  And lack of ability to mark? Are you now completely ignoring the marks he took against Sydney rising up an arm's length above any defender? When did Weideman do that?

Anyway, it turns out you were actually a month behind on Weideman mate! But hey, we had to give him a month's run at it right... Can't drop him after one game.

didnt you read my ins? it doesn't include Ben Brown. It includes Mitch Brown. Yep, i'm happy to cop being wrong on weideman but i'd still prefer him over Ben Brown and that's saying something. Ben Brown hasn't done anything in the seniors that warrants selection.

Brown can come in off training form, the fact there is no VFL is not an excuse for not picking players to come in. That’s really ridiculous if you take that to the logical conclusion that no one can get a call up without first playing VFL.

I wouldn’t hesitate.

And the way some Dees fans waive away Brown’s recent history in the Coleman race and yet call back to one game of Weideman three years ago is cognitive dissonance of the highest calibre - you have to try hard to be so obtuse…

I absolutely trust jackson now both in the ruck and around the ground he's coming along nicely..  This isn't the worst idea, even if its implemented in larger increments of time for the role swaps.

Our fwd line has not clicked all year.

We have experimented with it but we haven't really crushed a team to date.

Weid definitely needs a spell in the 2 's..

Bring in anyone that will compete. Brown M or B doesn't matter

If the club picks BBB to play against Essendon, I'll back him in. A mini pre-season and the scratchies that have been played should be enough fitness wise.

Viney the other in from my perspective. Sparrow and Weid out. Hopefully VFL is back next week.

Agree !!!

Weid has been given enough chances. Clearly a nice guy, and tries hard enough. But it's just not working, and someone else needs to be given a go.

I've said before, but Weed's lack of intensity and intent is a big problem for him.

So when he has a game like yesterday (minus three meters gained!) it looks, if that is the right word, even worse.

If he had kicked 3 goals his lack of intensity is less of an issue. But he didn't.

There were any number of examples yesterday, not least his inability to bat least halve some of those marking contests he just didn't impact.

But the example that really stood out to me was very late in the game, perhaps two minutes to go. We had a very, very slim chance of still winning as we were 2 goals down. But a slim chance, is still a chance.

Weed was manning the mark 15 meters from our goals (i forget which player). To have any chance of winning we needed to force a turnover from that kick. The pies player held the ball until the play on was called.

Weed showed a complete lack of intensity, remarkable in the circumstances, and allowed the pies player to hold the ball for a bit  after play on was called and get an unpressured kick long down the line.

Weed should have been jumping up and down and sprinted at the pies player as soon as play on was called. Unforgivable

I wonder if it is possible for a player to develop intensity. I suspect it is, to some degree. For example i reckon Fritter has show much more intensity in the last few weeks.

And i also wonder if weeds lack of intensity is a manifestation of something psychological (eg fear of failure,  worrying about his position etc.) as opposed to a lack of interest. Perhaps if he can get himself more aroused/intense when he plays the other stuff will be improved.

Talk of him being traded is premature. There is still time for him to become the player his potential suggests he could. I really hope he can, and have faith, albeit diminishing, that that he can. But he has to get the psychological aspect right.

Heres a thought Majak in the ruck, rotating with LJ , Max at Full Forward clear out the forward line with just Kossie and Max, Mitch Brown medical sub with BB  in the mix.

It’s intimated - why such belief in Weideman? And there are many posters with that belief in W that reject Brown’s recent past.

I'm not saying you're wrong about Weid, he deserved a month to find some form. As did Ben Brown. I saw Mitch Brown as you're in. If he's in, then let's see him for 2-3 weeks. I would prefer BB as a deep forward and Tmac leading up, but just my opinion.

Weideman isn’t cooked he’s just not up to it. Trade him.

Right now he has next to zero currency. He needs lots of work maybe with Williams to build his confidence. I couldn't see us getting better than a late third round so maybe if Williams/Yze whoever, think they can get him firing we are stuck with it.

As for the Bombers, Viney is a certainty probably for Sparrow who had his worst game, and while B Brown is likely I'd be just as happy with M Brown because he works hard up field in a similar manner to Hogan and TMac. So depending on training form B or M Brown for mine in place of Weid.

And Weidman has? At least we know Brown can perform at a high level. Weideman never has and never will.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
