Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If Ben Brown doesnt play the rest of the year

Weideman was worse than I had thought before this game.  He simply doesn't know how to play as a forward.

All game he was trying to mark from behind!  He is a supposedly a forward.

He didn't lead a single time in this game, now because I suspect, he doesn't know how to, and it is hard to lead when you play behind the defender.  It is even harder for the players up the field to kick it in, when you play behind all the time.

If there is one thing BBrown can do it is lead ( and he can mark the ball as well)

And LJ is 10 times the player Weid is after about only 20 games.

Don’t disagree but they are two completely different players. Petty is a better comparison. Holding down a key position as a defender with 20 games is much much harder than being a forward. Ever. Petty didn’t have a good game, but from day one has always attacked the contests. Weideman is either timing his run poorly, or his hands are not strong enough in a pack situation. He doesn’t have the reach or the strength of Ben Brown. He is more athletic and mobile, which is why I suspect they have kept persisting with him. He does ok at ground level, better than Brown, but he isn’t creating enough contests at ground level himself nor commanding the ball in the air.

I see him in games as a passive player in that he goes out to play hoping something will happen, not with the attitude I'm going to make something happen.

Jordan Roughead's a very good defender and Darcy Moore is a freak interceptor. There's not a lot of shame in getting beaten by them in one on ones.

The issue for Weid is the lack of easy ball. None. He's often running back to stretch the defenders when the kick comes in, so he has to turn back around and he doesn't have the agility or reach to then contest yet alone win.

There's some big midfield problems there as well.

Brown does have a natural leading ability but if the game plan says get deep to force ground balls in dangerous positions and the mids don't kick it to him that doesn't help us. The one thing Brown did particularly against the Swans was to come up and find a few easy kicks just to get involved including a nice mark outside fifty late to help seal the win. Not to mention his defensive ability is even below Weid's and down right awful.

Overall I think we should go small. Long term.... is Petty the answer forward? He has the reach to contest and enough athleticism to find some free space. If we had Tomlison available then I'd be trying that. But alas we don't.

Should the Weid dye his hair big bright peroxide blond so his team mates can identify him and actually wait until he's in position? Worth a try I reckon. That might be something that's helped Brown and helps Gawn.

Too late now I suppose but I would have thrown Weid back pre season and Petty forward. I think Weid could be a good half back, intercepting mark. And Petty can take a grab forward.

Both have had a block of games now and both have been mediocre. But I think on form and maturity I would want Brown in there after the bye to see if things click. I think Browns big body will be invaluable in finals. Weideman is not attacking enough for me at the moment.

My question is why has Weid gone so far backwards. Is it lost confidence, poor delivery, lack of leading or all three? Even when he gets his hands on the ball he drops it. He has played himself out of the side atm.

Weid will be out after the bye.

He's cleary unfit and is relying on being able to win contests when the ball is kicked on his head, which he does at VFL level against guys whose fitness levels are closer to his own.

Where I probably differ from many here is that I don't think his career is in jeopardy at all. He's one good, injury-free pre season away from being the player we need and want in the forward half.

I also hope that the match committee are open to playing neither of Brown or Weid, if their form doesn't warrant selection. Neither has played a good game to this point and we have showed that we are more than capable of winning without them.

Weid reminds me of a college nfl player that can dominate lower age and inferior levels but doesnt have the attributes when he's up against real quality in the pros.   He needs something extra. Size, stamina, mongrel, whatever. You don't get many free runs from the side of packs against part timers in the AFL.  He definitely doesnt remind me of warren tredrea but each to their own.

I don’t think that’s a fair comment. Weids played 5 games where as Brown has only played the 3, hardly a block. Brown kicked 2 against North then 3 against the Swans, he was just starting to get going when Jackson got injured. Against Carlton when both Brown and Weid played there was clearly no synergy. Weids had 4 games without Brown and his form had steadily declined.

His success last year came on the back of a number of games in 15 a side footy where he had to get involved in play a lot. His VFL from should've set him up well this year but he had a few easy kills against

Last year his best games were also as the main target alongside Jackson and without Tom. He came up the ground to get involved in contests on the wing at times. And at other times he was used as the deepest forward and got some genuine leading chances.

One of the issues I see right now is he's not getting those wing contests and he's not getting deep enough to be used as the full forward.

He's not even getting the run in the ruck which is where his best ever games came from.

In the current set up he's little more than a decoy and that's where he seems to be getting caught out.

Brown hasn't been given a chance at all. One bad game and he was out. Weid has had 4 bad games enough is enough.

It won't help him if he's consistently playing from behind against blonde haired defenders.

I've spent years defending SW here on DL and to friends and family. I was convinced he had all the ability in the world and just needed a good run of games to get things clicking.

My opinion on Sam has changed completely after watching him on the weekend. His intensity is nothing short of embarrassing for a 6"5 100kg forward.  He cannot complete a mark to save his own life. He didn't even tackle. He does not provide a target i50 and defenders have started taking marks over him instead of punching.

Trade or delist SW. Hope BB takes his chance now, otherwise our flag chances aren't looking that good.

Weid is out that's a given but BB is tall - that is all he is not physically strong or capable of consistently taking pack marks

His go is to get on the lead and players up the field kicking in front of him - not convinced we have the structure or the players up the ground that are great at delivering inside 50

No way he's playing back anywhere but Casey

He's so soft he would get smashed by any half decent forward

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
