Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It was Barry Humphries, who recorded it in 1964 under the title of "Snow Complications".

The Coodabeen Champions trot it out each year on Queen's Birthday weekend so you'll hear it at the start of their show this Saturday morning at 10am if you are keen to listen to it all again.

Gerry Humphreys was the singer of legendary sixties Australian band The Loved Ones.

So, he's a "dominant narrow minded individual who would clash with others" and a "decent bloke". Interesting combination.

I doubt Buckley would ever entertain taking another subservient role at any club. It was obvious he was always uncomfortable when he had to serve his apprenticeship under Malthouse. He was accustomed to royal treatment at the head of the queue throughout his football career. Media work will be safe for his ego.

Gerry Humphries was lead singer of The Loved Ones. The author of Snow Complications was Barry Humphries. The Coodabeens usually play Humphries ode to the snow scene every QB weekend. With plenty of references to the Demon fans!

Malcolm Blight talked about leaving coaching and th loss of identity when you are no longer the decision-maker. He said Bukcley will find it difficult not being in charge. People aren't interested in commentators opinions. They will now want to know what Robert harvey thinks.  Blight said he went through this, as Buckley will and it didn't sound like fun. He was being very sympathetic.

Not sure I agree with your media work comment in this regard. Its not a substantial role unless your Barry Cassidy, Waleed Aly, Sarah Ferguson, Gerard Whately, etc.

Froth and bubble, esp in the sports media.  Bucks is better than that

Buckley is a high profile consummate media performer. He will be in demand and rapidly become one of the top talking heads. I am not aware of any other interests he has outside of football. As for beyond that I could see him easily becoming president of Collingwood FC one day or even in a prime position for  the AFL.

As a player, Buckley jumped ship on Brisbane for Collingwood - the former won three flags during his playing days.  IMO those circumstances should nullify any suggestion that he "deserved" a flag.

additionally, when he shifted to the filth he knocked back a good offer from norf and subsequently missed 2 premierships there

on the other hand he's quite a rich person, though no doubt blunted some what by tanya

Not only that but if he had stayed at Brisbane, they probably would have won more than 3 Premierships with him in the side.

As an aside, he wouldn't have won a Brownlow either except for the stupid umpires who allocated the votes in our game against Sydney.  They gave 3 votes to Michael O'loughlin who had kicked 4 goals( i think) but didn't play after 3/4 time with a hamstring injury.  Goodes was easily best on ground that day, and he absolutely ripped us apart, but only got 2 votes!!

Change those around to what they should have been, and Goodes would have won the Brownlow on his own......not having to share it with Buckley.

Apologies. Perhaps should have read...Roger from Snow complications vis a vis Buller, Falls, Perisher and Thredbo.

No trip to the snow this weekend but reckon a few tinnies and gluhwein in front of the fire will be in order, not forgetting some other home comforts. And no problemos with spreading the virus.

It took me a while to cotton on, but as soon as @dpositive mentioned the 'doing a bit of work for the old man' it all came back to me!

Thanks H

Wasnt sure which Humphries it was.

It did bring back many memories of a hedonistic past.Your also right I can recall Coodabeens usual demon stereotyping.

I must admit that I am creeping slowly towards it. Going to Sydney on Saturday, may check out the snow Saturday. Retirement has opened up many opportunities that were denied while running a seven day week retail business.

I always informed others that Demons scarves were well in the minority on chair lifts. It will be interesting to see how f current success brings them out.

That's not true, he was elected to that position (every three years I believe). And I've never heard him say that quote, I think he said something along the lines of he didnt believe in EGM's. He was not a dictator - he was never challenged, not once.

The problem many people have is the Presidency is voted by the board, not the members.

(Just my general knowledge, happy to be corrected on the detail)

To clarify, elections weren't held at Collingwood because they weren't necessary - there were never more people standing for Board membership than there were vacancies. If the membership were unhappy, they could have always proposed a slate of members to challenge the incumbent Board and wouldn't have needed an Extraordinary General Meeting to do so. In my view, that's not a dictatorship but a club which has a satsified membership. Should they have been satsified? That's a separate question.

Yes but I believe there is still an election, even as a formality. Eddie was voted in every three years by the board. It may be different for the board elections though... But were getting into technicalities.

What Eddie said (with pride) was that there hadn't been an election in 23 years. I believe to get on the board a CFC member has to be voted to the position at their AGM. What Eddie would do is appoint them mid year as an interim board member, then the appointment (unopposed) would be ratified at the AGM by the rest of the board. No voting required. In no time at all he had a board of people who were beholden to him for their positions.

Any time it looked like a challenge was going to be mounted, Eddie would start a campaign of Chinese whispers and general agitation that CFC was being destabilised, etc . It worked so well that before long, no-one could be bothered going through the trial by fire involved. Last guy to think of doing it was sidelined by being commissioned to provide a report into any/everything wrong with CFC. Report was tabled, one or two recommendations adopted, and guy was appointed to the board as an interim member and later (unopposed) ratified at the AGM. No voting required. Meanwhile Eddie was reappointed as pres each term, unopposed. No voting required.

Former Port Power player and radio shock-jock Kane Cornes has suggested that Collingwood attempt to poach Mark "Choco" Williams from us here at Melbourne to team up with Hawthorn assistant coach Sam Mitchell as his apprentice. I am not happy about this at all!

Here is the link to the news story: https://www.msn.com/en-au/sport/afl/radical-two-man-pies-plan-to-replace-buckley/ar-AAKT4oZ?ocid=mailsignout&li=AAgfLCP

I hope that Mark "Choco" Williams stays at the Demons and I assume he has a contract with us? Especially as he has said that he has no desire to be a senior AFL coach anymore and is enjoying the role of being Head of Development coach here at the Melbourne Football Club. Mark "Choco" Williams has been fantastic here at the Demons and I would be incredibly upset if he (or Adem Yze) was to leave after only 1 season.

I am going to have to say go and get stuffed Kane! Shut your mouth!

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
