Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lyon up for grabs and Clarkson heading in the same direction with Jeff getting increasingly angry with the Hawks performances. Mitchell also ready for the big gig. Could see Clarko at Blues but not Pies.

A new Coach would want stability at Board level.

It’s great when these things are happening at other clubs and we have harmony and light with our coaching team.

The notion of a team suddenly becoming more dangerous because their coach quit seems absurd to me. Can anyone give me a tangible reason why they'd suddenly turn around and play well in this scenario?

Can't see Clarko getting an offer, he has coached the Hawks into 2nd last.

And I would be very surprised if Ross Lyons message hasn't passed its use by date....

Sam Mitchell?

He will coach somewhere next year...my guess is the Hawks will lose their nerve and transition Clarkson out & Mitchell in.

Their hand has now also been forced.

Clarkson will be at either Carlton or Collingwood. Lyon will take the other job.

...but if either of them (Carlton or Collingwood) go with Mitchell, an untried coach then interesting times.

Carlton couldn't go with another untried, unproven coach could they?

You have to wonder if Carlton's review and now Buckley stepping down shows these two clubs are panicking about missing out on Ross Lyon.

I just don’t understand why people rate Lyon. Everywhere he’s gone he hasn’t been able to get a premiership (has gone very close tho I’ll give him that) and seems to come with a lot of baggage.
Can’t see the hype.

They will have to get a name coach both the current board and the challengers will want nothing less. My bet is that the current board already have someone to shore up their position and that has led to this decision. It cant be an untried assistant in the circumstances and they need to make the announcement soon. The alternative is they told Bucks that was their plan and he said well see you later, that would be a misstep on their part.

As for Monday it may fire the pies up but we just need to be ready to play as if they are another top tier contender.

Buckley can clearly coach and should probably be a premiership coach already. But he's in an absolute basket case of a club at the moment with upheaval at every level of the club since the exit of Eddie.

It reminds me of The Death of Stalin.

I feel sorry for Buckley. He seems like a decent guy and he's a good coach, but the club he's part of is a complete dumpster fire.

Well said.

I agree with this.

Korda needed something to differentiate his board from the Eddie board. This is them cutting the cord from the Eddie days in the eyes of supporters.

Morally, I would agree with that decision if I were a Collingwood supporter.

Politically, the moves they have made are provoking the Cult of Eddie. There are a LOT of Collingwood supporters still pining for his reign.

Don't be surprised if they become what Richmond did after the Cloke, Raines and Wood trades of the 80's. Their supporters took their cues and talking points from Graeme Richmond, just as Collingwood's do with Eddie now. The sway he has over a lot of their hearts and minds is staggering.

He handled himself so incredibly well in that press conference. Regardless of some of the internal stuff that’s clearly gone on, and continues to go on, at Collingwood Buckley is a very polished media performer. He’s very well suited to a Director of Football role at a club who is developing.

I'd be happy to see Mark Neeld return to coaching at Collingwood.  Or Carlton.  I'm not fussy.

Meanwhile, good to see past players playing tribute to Bucks ...

Saw that.

It was poor form by Daisy considering only few weeks ago he was sooking it up about mental health and people bagging him on social media about his weight.

The guy has a brain the size of a pea.

This definitely makes it a "danger" game for the Demons. We need to withstand any onslaught from the Magpies as they will be emotionally charged for this game.

Hopefully our players will be focused and just worry about playing well and aim to do what they need to do and play their roles so that we get the win.

It is important that we don't underestimate a wounded Magpie!

You would think not, but if ever there is a club looking for a cheap trick rather than doing due diligence it is Carlton.....

The answer is unclear.  It's possible to argue either that C'wood will play out of their skins or crumble in a heap. I'd be more interested in what the historical stats are for this situation.

Emotions will be high at the start of the game. Important to get off to a really strong start.
But if we can come back from 20 points down against a much better team in Brisbane, there is 0 excuse to lose this game. We are a better team and we have a lot more to play for.
Losing this will come down to our application on game day. Nothing more.

When Balm stepped down as MFC coach, we beat Richmond the following week. We then returned to losing.

When Daniher stepped down as coach, we played out of our skins to just lose to Essendon. We then returned to losing.

Plenty of other examples.

Having said that, I expect to win, but win/lose, the team will go into the bye and then reset.

Seems to be a bit similar to Daniher’s time at Melbourne as well. Coach for 10 years, made finals here and there including a grand final, and departs midway through their last season. Also times where you thought he was gonna get sacked halfway through their tenure but ended up staying as their clubs bounced back into finals.

Other than Neale Daniher in 07, I can't recall another time a coach announced they were leaving mid-year, then had another game.

The notion that teams play better immediately after a coach is fired has been around for a long time, but not sure if there's any definitive proof to back it up.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
