Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs Brisbane

Demonland

Recommended Posts

First half showed all our weaknesses if our pressure and intensity is off and the midfield are getting beaten.

Second half showed all our strengths.

The mids did a fantastic job turning it around. Credit to Gawn, Oliver, Petracca but also Harmes and Sparrow. They weren't going to be pushed around by Brisbane like they were in the first half (and last year too).

Credit to the forwards for flicking a switch. Tommy and Kozz led the way. Tom started to attack contests. Kozzie backed himself rather than being tentative. Great in game turn around from those boys and the rest of the forwards.

Tom McDonald's long been a confidence player and to see him being able to turn a game around that wasn't really happening for him is huge. Koz probably hasn't had a game like that against high class opposition before either. In a big week for him with the Indigenous round and some media work it was super impressive.

Big tick for JJ on the wing, filled in very nicely. Surely can now add that versatility to his string.

Huge tick for Steven May turning a bad Maysy game in to an excellent one. Did his body work early and attacked the ball in the air. Petty and Rivers really rallied around him. Hibbo a mixed bag but important in enough contests. Lever won't play a worse game than that this year I don't think.

Great 2nd half by our defence to shutdown Hipwood.

Great second half defence by the whole team.
Shut the lions down completely.
Not just Hipwood.

That was enormous.

We’ve just beaten the two best sides, neither match at our home ground.

We held a high scoring side to 20 scoring shots and 75 points.

We needed a lift at half time, so we lifted. We backed our system in, we turned the tide, and then we scored heavily.

You cannot be anything other than impressed by that.

I was searching for your stats on an earlier post re: scores against us top 8 vs bottom 8 - could you re submit with this please :)

An underrated post...

Really glad that Harmes is back playing good footy in the guts.  Nullifying dangerous opponents, while breaking lines through the centre square and providing some great drive of his own.

There were a good number of people who were writing him off as an ordanary player who no longer had a place in the side.  Clearly an asset the way he's playing at the moment.

He has played really well, feel like he has eliminated some mistakes, taking people on and poor kicking. Has done some really good work in close with his handballing and releasing other players too. I hope he can hold his form when Viney comes back in and takes the 'third' mid role.

That last quarter was a jewel in Darren Burgess’s crown. It was  going to come down to fitness, and it feels so great knowing we can play four HUGE quarters.

We only played 2 HUGE quarters.

I've been having conversations with a mate who is mad Geelong.

He has been saying our experience and that of the Cats in '07 is pretty similar. All of that year, he was waiting for Geelong to do 'Geelong things'. Week after week he waited. It never came, and we all know the rest of the story.

He sees the way we are playing as comparable to the Cats of '07.

That Geelong side was probably the best side of their dynasty years. Of course, we need to actually win a flag first, but you can't get any better comparison than that.

The ball movement in the second half was bloody exhilarating. It was ball on string stuff, and the fact it was against top flight opposition makes it all the more encouraging.

I will have to concur a bit with @I'va Worn Smith While I won't refrain from the match day threads entirely, I was a bit surprised at some of the negativity. Sure, we were down in the first half, but we weren't finished. There was definite hope there if we were to shuffle the pieces around a bit.

Stay excited fellow Demons. As they said during the Civil Rights movement, keep your eye on the prize. We've got a good 2 months of footy and a year of finals shouldn't be a pass mark from this point.

As I predicted would happen, we lost the centre square clearnces and won the around the ground stoppage clearnces.

Start of the season he was easily one of the top coaches under pressure, I think a journalist has their big call as him sacked by about round 8 with Williams taking over. There were plenty on here that wanted him gone as well, absolutely credit to Goody in having belief in himself and more importantly the players.

I keep saying it, there is plenty of footy to play in the year so I’m just enjoying the ride (as I’m sure Simon is as well!).

Simon Goodwin has made us better every year, apart from one drastic fall down the ladder.

Nathan Buckley has made Collingwood worse every year, apart from one stunning rise up the ladder.

i think 08 was the best year of the geelong dynasty - they lost two games for the year and one of em happened to be the big dance

and that's why i tend not to bother with the match day threads to be honest; it's just far too 'we'll all be rooned, said hanrahan' for me

i'm not just excited but i am absolutely thrilled and can't get over how this season is progressing

Yeah, I was surprised how calm I was in the first half. Something has pivoted and it's not a bad feeling!

It's interesting to see the different way teams line up against us. Brisbane went for even numbers in the stoppage to prevent our loose defender. That worked well for them in the first half because they were winning the clearances. In the second half we just rolled over them in the middle with Max and the loose man in defence didn't matter anymore. The clearances we won, in general, were of a much higher quality that theirs.

There are two ways we can beat teams: a) with a loose man intercepting whilst Max and our mids make the clearance hard, or b) with even numbers across the field allowing the best ruck and powerful midfielders to take the ball out the front of the stoppages.

It's the differential of quality of stoppages between those we win and those our opponents win which makes us so hard to beat. With even numbers this is even greater, and outnumbered we are still competitive plus we also dominate behind the ball. It's a great 1-2 punch.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
