Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Eight Dees in Robbo's All-Australian team

We're having a great season (obviously) but won't put too much weight on Robbo's opinions.

His interview of Rivers tonight was cringeworthy "last year you played forward a bit... how did you get to the backline"

Rivers politely said he's played halfback the last four years!

Robbo's team is good - but it's made up of almost exclusively dees, lions and dogs (with a couple from his own team).  Very unlikely to end up like this.

It's the things that he doesnt do that have me doubting his AA ability.

He is lazy af, refuses to chase, and only goes hard when he thinks a goal is in the offing.

Come to think of it, maybe a DNA test of Russell Robertsons, and Baileys parents is required?

Robbie never picked a ball up off the ground but boy he could mark for someone his size.

That doesn't mean he has to pick the side he doesn't think is best.

Its an in form side of well deserved players.

Keath or Weitering.

I take your point DeeSpencer. May leads both in disposals and clearances despite playing one less game. Both Keath and Weitering lead May in the stats that tend to be led at the Deez by Lever such as intercept marks. Keath commits far less clangers than either May or Weitering but handles the ball a lot less. So it's a tight call. Weitering, despite playing for Carltank, is certainly a much improved player.

I saw that too. Thought to myself he must have him confused with Hunt.

I don't buy into him always being drunk, but he certainly is complacent (lazy) and ignorant given his position

Great call by Robbo.

Langdon gets little recognition.

And Trac is so often rated as better than Trac but I believe Oliver is one of the greatest mids around and is getting better each season.

When Kozzie and Jackson reach their peak which will be earlier than most this team will dazzle even more.

I do think Vineys foot issue is a big challenge and whike Harmes has done a great job, Id love to see the club spend as much as they can for a proven mid not just for insurance but Viney yhe poor bloke could have this issue for a few seasons. Its not a small thing apparently. Its gone from a few weeks to four and maybe six to eight. I feel sorry for Him. He competes so hard and a pasdionate Demon with a great heritsge.

at the end of the season tho there's no way that they'll name an ACTUAL wingman

Yeah that's the funny thing about The All Australians team, inside mids become wingman even thought they didn't play on the wing at all during the season.

Toby Greene 22 goals this year (in the side), Frittata 25. Just sayin.

Nice point...

Greene's leadership has been terrific and unexpected in a depleted team. Fritsch has been mostly good finishing solid work further up the ground but Green brings greater value overall for mine

For me I'd say yes.

Have noticed more and more as time goes on this season, that with T Mac, it's not just about the big marks and timely goals he so reliably nails inside 50, but his work around the ground and delivering inside 50 in particular is elite in my view.

For a big bloke, he chases and tackles pretty good too.

Couldn't agree more

So Tmac is equal 17th with a few other players kicking 20 goals 10 behinds for the season so far. I think there's a strong argument for him being in the conversation for AA, at least the way he's tracking.

If you look at it this way, out of the top 20 forwards (goal kicking wise) whom he would be best compared to this season, Tom ranks:

Marks - 3rd

Disposals - 1st

Tackles - 4th

Inside 50s - 2nd

Contested Possession 3rd

Uncontested - 1st

Goal assists 3rd

1%'s - 2nd

He's also had a decent amount of hitouts as a forward with two rucks in the team.

The main things against him as an upper potential All Australian is his contested marks and marks inside 50 are on the lower end of that group. If we see more of that and obviously pushing the top 10 for goals who knows!

Thanks for the well researched and collated stats.

I think what all your stats point to is that T Mac's inclusion as an AA forward rotating off the bench is pretty well founded on the basis of his ability to contribute up the ground a bit further as more of a CHF type and not just inside forward 50.

It annoys me when the AA teams have star midfielders as Half Forwards. Pick the best players that play in that position rather than squeeze extra midfielders into what is a speciality position FFS.

Re Robbo, did anyone see when he was interviewing Trent Rivers re rising star nomination on AFL 360 and asked what it was like playing forward last year before being moved forward this year mistaking him for Jayden Hunt. I genuinely don't mind Robbo but it was a bit awkward and pretty funny.

Rivers has got that good half back flankers knack of adventuring up the ground to slot through the odd sausage roll.  Loved that huge bomb on the run against the Crows.

I rate Jake Niall, but that's a pretty questionable team.

FB: Grimes        Andrews        Stewart
HB: Dale          May      Rich
C: McLuggage    Oliver          Walsh
HF: Petracca      Franklin      Green
FF: Walker        McKay        Pickett
Fol: Naitanui    Bontempelli (C) Macrae
Int: Gawn  (VC) Parish    Lever     Martin

Grimes shouldn't even be in the squad currently, and there is no way he's starting 18 ahead of Lever, Weitering and Starcevich.

Salem has had a quiet couple of weeks but he's still been the best medium defender by far. No way Franklin gets in having missed a third of the games. AMT has been a better small forward than Pickett to this point if we're being impartial.

Naitanui as starting ruck over vice captain Gawn is a pss take, surely.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
