Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cool cool cool - whichever way around it was. The fixture shows it as our home game this year, implying them next year = our lost gate this year and they get it next year. I think there is space to negotiate with the Pies on getting to Alice and splitting it.

The Age Real Footy Podcast made a good point - firstly they thought it was 400k, not 700k and Caroline Wilson made the good point that the MFC ought not worry about this - keep the premiership in mind (this means getting a top 2 IMV) and then letting everything that flows from that benefit the bottom line next year. Big games with big gates, blockbuster TV slots, memberships.

Cool cool cool? AFL scheduled us as the home team this season because we missed out on QB last year and Anzac Eve.

Simply pointing out you’re incorrect about the Pies missing out on the gate in 2020. Just like you pointing out that people are making themselves look silly on here when posting about COVID.

There's an integrity issue which outweights the financial considerations. If you allow Melbourne to sell it's game to Brisbane where will it end? Will North start selling games or Gold Coast. Selling a game to NT and other developing areas is one thing but selling to a direct rival is something else entirely. It can't and won't be allowed.

These are extraordinary circumstances though. I wouldn't propose that measures like this be taken in a normal set of circumstances but we live in different times now.

In any event if a team like North start selling games all over the country, on top of their sold games to Tasmania, they very may well have a mutiny amongst their supporter base and would certainly seal their relocation fate.

If we have to start selling games interstate just to survive then the bells will be a tolling.

The AFL really need to make a call on this game today, at the very least rule it out categorically, as people will start travelling in from communities tomorrow and Thursday, an expensive exercise for families.

I have no inside information but from everything I've read it seems a call will be made today.

If I was a betting man I'd put the farm on us playing them at Giants Stadium.

I made a mistake about the gate - move on - thanks though for highlighting the AFL is able to compensate lost marquee game gates by adjusting next year. We can have next year's instead.

People here are making themselves look silly on Covid. Equating a simple scheduling error from 2020 with some of the comments on Covid is inapt.

Cool cool cool is a quote from Brooklyn 99. I feel very sad that you have not availed yourself of this comic masterpiece and all the cultural memes it has birthed - nodoubtnodoubtnodoubt.

I’d hate it to be at the Gabba even if it means $$. I want 4 points.

The SCG doesn’t suit us, so it’s a no from me.

Preferences based on what we know.

1. Manuka

2. Giants Stadium

3. Metricon Stadium

The financial issue for us is that currently we have ANZAC Eve and QBW both scheduled at home one year and away the next.

I thought we were originally scheduled away at both last year but I was wrong - we were scheduled at home for both.

Gabba please ?

I want to beat them there, in front of a big crowd.

I'm coming around to this idea however I don't have the confidence that we can beat them there in front of a hostile home crowd. I think I'm just scarred from my Adelaide experience.

I like the idea of recouping some of the losses from NT & QB by taking a 45,000 fan gate but I'm not convinced that giving the Dees/Neutral fans first dibs at tickets will lessen the hostile home crowd effect.

A win in the belly of the beast would be a further stamp on our credentials though.

I think this is all a moot point as I don't believe the QLD government will let us in without hubbing in Sydney for a week or two.

correct

I suggested that the 2021 blockbuster games should have been a shared gate game before the season started. While I didn't anticipate zero crowds everyone knew there would quite likely be compromised figures.

How both our blockbuster home games came to be in the same year is a worry from a financial viewpoint.

To also lose the NT game is just the proverbial cherry on top

I would hope that the playing group have that attitude. It's us scarred supporters that want to play every game in our own backyard against Dimboola Thirds.

Agree 4 points is the most important aspect in a footballing program and it always should be.

Money, sponsorships, memberships are the flow on effect from winning games of football and being a successful brand will attract $$$.

You do the best thing for your football club where success is concerned, in regards to ground relocation keeping it away from QLD is and always should be a football based decision not a financial one.

4 points over cash.

Is it absolutely confirmed that the NT would not give us a payment.

After all it's them that are not allowing us into their state through absolutely no fault of our own.

I think some sort of compromise would be appropriate.

From the HUN today it would appear yes. If we cannot turn up no money. It looks like  no crowds for certain on QB if there is a match at the G. Those two will be hits to the bottom line.

Anywhere, anytime has a nice ring to it and I'm glad that Max and the team feel that way.

But I'm against playing it at the Gabba - if we play there then a reasonably possible scenario is that we lose and Brisbane makes top 2 because of it and we have to go back there to play them in the finals - not a good outcome.

I think Premiership takes care of financial issues and that's what I would prioritise.

contracts are full of boiler plate clauses. One of them is force majeure. If it applied (very complex) it would help NT and not us.

Otherwise the contract will simply say "we turn up and we get paid".

I've seen some contracts that seek to include sovereign risk (the government interfering with the contract by third party laws) but they are rare. Wouldn't surprise me though if the F1 contract has one in it which means Vic Govt will pay if we don't let them in.

Under normal circumstances yes it does. But no crowds, no corporate boxes, no exxy pre game functions etc etc will  impact that line massively. I suspect for covid  reasons our membership uptake has fallen behind as well. I believe players also get paid more for finals. We will soon have a big issue on our hands.

We spent years whining about selling our games for money. To Darwin, To Brisbane, to Alice etc

Forget the money. You want to finish top 2.

everything flows after that. The money takes care of itself.

Win the games.

Everyone is impacted. Money is no good if we finish 5th and have to travel to perth for a final.

This is why we will not be playing at the Gabba.

St. Kilda struggling to get an exemption to play and then stay in Cairns for the next week.

I would imagine QLD would be telling the AFL that they (Saints) can hub in Sydney for a week and then come to Cairns the following week.

If they offered a FIFO to the Saints I'm sure the Saints would prefer to play in Sydney this week and then travel to Cairns the next week.

To the Gabba guys would you prefer to play in Sydney this week with proper match day preparation or would you like a FIFO of the Gabba scenario? I doubt we will even be offered this from QLD but if on offer would you take it?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
