Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Where will we play the Lions?

Play it at the gabba.

Dees members, of which there are many up there get first crack.

Then just general admission. So neutrals will come- and there will be heaps of ex vic footy fans who will up for seeing one of tbe best games of the season.

So it might only be 50% lions fans.

Full house.

Friday night. The big light show and big game buzz.

Channel 7 love it. Our sponsors love it.

The team love it.

All coin goes to us. Maybe 700k.

The ground suits us perfectly. It is short and their forwards will have zero space.

And we can trap it in our forward half.

Our clean centre clearances will go 20 metres from goal.

Their scrappy centre clearances will go 40 metres from goal into tbe lever zone.

We will win.

And make one hell of a statement.

And a heap of moolah.

Stay at our tweed heads qld base and play pies at the gabba too.

Maybe Monday night football on the queen's birthday.

Big TV ratings. Better than a Monday arvo. Plenty of pies fans up there so we will get an ok crowd again

A bye the following week

Can plan the mini hub perfectly. Do a mid season reset and mini camp. Bring all the players up at some point if possible.

Move our gws home game to the Alice later in the year so we get that 700k.

Do it dees

You've convinced me. Gee, it'd be good to make Lions fans pay us to watch us beat them.

That said, I think they're a good side and will be hard to beat.

While it is disappointing we cannot play this game at Alice Springs, I don't have too much of an issue of playing at the SCG which will be a "neutral" ground for both us and the Brisbane Lions.

This is a real danger game for us as the Brisbane Lions are in red hot form and brimming with confidence.

To suggest we should play this game at the GABBA is just plain stupid. It was bad enough when we sold games to the Brisbane Lions in the early 2000's when they were dominant during their three-peat premiership era. I do hope though that the AFL compensates us for losing over $700,000 for not being able to play this match in the Northern Territory though. I think that would be a reasonable request for loss of revenue. However, I won't hold my breath when it comes to the AFL.

There is no greater revenue generator for a footy club than a premiership.

Whatever tiny advantage we can take right now, we should grab with both hands. Giving Brisbane an extra game at the Gabba, their home ground where they dominate, is just silly. Already this is a 50/50 game. Why give Brisbane an advantage, when they are coming in hot for our top 2 spot?

We have some very hard matches coming up. This is one of them. There is absolutely no way I want to make it harder by playing it at the opposition's home ground, with a home crowd advantage. The last game we played interstate with a hostile crowd, was our one and only loss for the year. Lets not repeat this.

Spot on & its our home game whilst we play it in NT it would be unfair  & crazy to give Lions a home ground advantage and club needs to demand a neutral venue.

If NT was waiting on Victoria case numbers, today would be the final nail in the coffin of this game. 5 overnight and 6 more positives already this morning.

As incredibly disappointing and frustrating it is on a personal level, it is not worth the risk of having the game here now, there’s just too much at stake if the virus gets out here.

I’d prefer Giants stadium than the SCG.

The thinner and longer dimensions suit us more then the short and wide SCG. Plus the surface seems in far better shape.

Given the crowd will be next to 0 regardless I would’ve thought we’d get a choice. Maybe Ch7 and the AFL want the more prestigious ground but that’s bad luck for them.

The main benefit to the SCG apart from a few more neutral supporters is the players probably get a nicer hotel and shorter trip. But they’re flying out for business and if they’re restrictions travel with them I doubt they’ll be doing much sightseeing.

There were a few reports that Carlton, as the home team, was given a choice for its game this week vs West Coast, and chose the SCG.

If that's correct you'd expect we will be given a choice.

Agreed.
Best to keep our large indigenous community in the NT safe.
Out of interest how’s the vaccination program going up there?

TBH I've moved on from the venue for this game to thinking about how we can solve the massive loss from the QB fixture.

A bye and moving by one week is a good start but even then the crowds will be limited.

We can't seem to take a trick when it comes to finances.

Have my second Pfizer shot booked for next week. Not going so well in communities, is hard convincing locals to get the shots, they have a very understandable scepticism to anything the government says and have read a bit about the blood clotting and are thus a bit reluctant

Makes sense. Is the government engaging community leaders or elders to try and help with vaccination information?

Why can’t the lions travel to Melbourne and stay there in isolation?

QLD premier will never let anyone come to Victoria and then come back while we are in lockdown. She is as bad as WA.
I also think the AFL prefers to play with crowds where possible for financial reasons.

Those working for government in communities are (those outside of them would have no effect), think you will find that the few communities that have good healthcare and government workers, trusted by the community will have higher vaccination rates. Sadly they are not so common. CAAMA radio is doing their best to encourage people to get shots, but still seems more needs to be done as I am not coming across many to have been vaccinated and I visit over 15. different communities a month

Sorry Jaded, I meant stay there for a block of games.

Good point with regards to crowds which I hadn’t considered when posting.

No need to apologise. I do feel for the Alice and think the GWS stadium would be better for us. We played well there last year.

I am actually more concerned about the big freeze which is such a worthy cause and deserves a big crowd at the G.

yeah, the way the press conferences went today, I'm getting worried about a week lockdown turning into a month.

No crowd for the QB would be terrible

Why?

You may disagree but there is merit to the argument that is against yours here, that the "any team, anywhere" line sounds good in theory but can bite you in the bum.

Because the comment that it was dumb business and dumb football was predicated on:

  • hearsay that the club regretted they didn’t push harder against  having to play the two games in Cairns,
  • the fact we were forced to fly in same day as well
  • the fact we played the most grounds of any team in 2020.
  • going with the ' stupid he stupid “any team, anywhere” line, and losing both

None of that is an example of dumb business or dumb football.

We had no choice in that decision, just as we have little choice this week. Push back harder. Please.

And the any team, any where line is basic footy speak, no different to soldier out, soldier in malarkey. And to be honest i can't recall anyone from the club actually saying that. Someone might have had some stage, such is the ubiquity of such a comment, but i certainly can't  recall the coach or club making a big deal about it.

Perhaps they should have. Because i reckon a problem was the players came into those games not in that mindset. The club and players were jacked off about the whole thing, and it showed.

The post accuses the club of dumb business and dumb football, and provides specious evidence to back up that criticism.

Which is funny, becuase on the latter point there was plenty of other evidence of dumb football.

Agree on the Giants stadium which has 2 nice hotels walking distance to the ground in the Olympic precinct. There are actually no hotels that close to the SCG. I recall last year they stayed at manly which is a long way from both grounds.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
